    DEPARTMENT FOR BUSINESS AND TRADE
    Enforcement Manager - Heat Networks
Salary: National: £55,836 - £62,823 London: £59,450 - £66,338. This role attracts a pay enhancement of up to £2,125 per annum for candidates who meet the eligibility criteria
    Contract: Permanent
Working pattern: Full time, job share or part time
    Location: Birmingham or Teddington
    About us
The Office for Product Safety and Standards (OPSS) is part of the Department for Business and Trade, and exists to make regulation work to deliver real world impact. Regulation is a powerful Government tool to address market failures, influence behaviour and promote positive action, and can be an enabler of growth, innovation and efficiency. Our primary purpose is to protect people and places from product-related harm, ensuring consumers and businesses can buy and sell products with confidence.
    Your work with us
Our Energy Supply team is at the forefront of creating a sustainable energy future, and we're setting rigorous standards for heat networks, electric vehicle charging, the accuracy of energy meters and more. Our mission is to foster a thriving market where businesses can innovate and consumers enjoy a reliable, affordable and environmentally friendly energy supply. Heat network legislation is a critical component of the UK's plan to achieve net zero, and when you join us in this role you'll make an important contribution to reducing carbon emissions, protecting consumers and promoting a thriving energy market. Leading a dedicated team of enforcement officers and technical experts, you'll also create and implement operational plans as you work to build a cleaner, more equitable energy landscape for the future.
In detail, your work will involve the development and implementation of the technical standards and regulations necessary to ensure accurate heat metering, leading enforcement activities that guarantee industry's legal compliance, and providing the guidance required to support business improvement. Committed to building your knowledge and empowering the team, we'll expect you to foster organisational collaboration to ensure consistent regulatory practices and meet policy needs. In addition, you'll respond to enquiries, provide expert advice to government, and support the development of new legislation.
    Who we're looking for
To be a success in this important role you should have a degree or its equivalent in engineering or a related field, and the ability to quickly acquire and apply technical knowledge, with a particular focus on metering and heat network systems. Your strong analytical abilities will allow you to interpret complex data, identify trends and inform strategic decision-making, while your excellent interpersonal skills will see you building and maintaining positive relationships with industry representatives, policymakers, consumers and a diverse range of other stakeholders.
A creative and strategic thinker, you'll be capable of developing and implementing effective plans, adapting to changing priorities, and working at pace as you deliver results under pressure. An inspirational and motivating team leader with the ability to collaborate effectively with colleagues throughout our organisation, any experience of delivering technical regulation, operational projects or similar within the utilities sector would be a plus. You should also be aware that this role may require occasional travel to sites throughout the UK.
    The benefits you'll receive
Join us and you'll receive a wide range of excellent benefits, including a Civil Service pension, flexible working options and a work culture that encourages inclusion and diversity. You'll also enjoy learning and development tailored to your role, flexible working options and a work culture that encourages inclusion and diversity.
We value diversity and inclusion and actively encourage and welcome applications from everyone, including those that are under-represented in our workforce. We promote equality of opportunity in all aspects of employment and a working environment free from discrimination, harassment, bullying and victimisation.
