A fantastic opportunity exists for a Junior Building Physics/Sustainability Consultant with an interest in housing design to join our small, friendly and busy team, helping drive the sustainability agenda in housing design. Working within an interdisciplinary environment, you will support the delivery of energy-efficient and sustainable housing projects, collaborating with some of the most aspirational developers in the sector. From early-stage design through to post-occupancy evaluation, this role offers career growth, thought leadership opportunities, and the chance to make a meaningful impact. Key Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following: Conducting energy modelling, daylight/sunlight analysis, overheating assessments, and thermal bridging analysis using the following software and methodologies to optimise building performance at pre-planning, planning stage and beyond: Energy SAP calculations in Elmhurst and SBEM/DSM calculations using IESVE. Daylight/sunlight MBS for Revit Overheating analysis Part O and CIBSE TM59/TM52 analysis using IESVE. Thermal bridging calculations Psi-therm. Whole life-cycle assessments One Click LCA. Assist in collaborating with the in-house architecture team as well as external MEP engineers, structural engineers and other stakeholders to integrate building physics and sustainability principles into design projects. Perform simulations and assessments to ensure compliance with building codes and standards and contribute to providing technical support to the architecture team. Assist in preparing technical reports and presentations for clients and project teams. Collaborating with in-house and external teams, providing design input throughout project stages. Contributing to Whole Lifecycle Carbon Assessments (WLCA) and Circular Economy (CE) studies for GLA-compliant residential-led projects. Researching sustainable solutions, ensuring regulatory compliance, and delivering data-driven insights. Involvement in Net-zero carbon strategies and assessments (both operational and embodied) and post-occupancy evaluations. To be considered for this role, the successful candidate will have: An MSc in Sustainable Design, Environmental Engineering, or other relevant field. 1-2 years+ relevant experience in the building physics and sustainability sector, including energy, overheating and daylight/sunlight analysis, in addition to WLCA and CE assessments. Familiarity with GLA requirements for energy/CO reductions, overheating, WLCA, and CE assessments. Strong analytical, organisational, and communication skills, with attention to detail and the ability to manage workloads independently. Knowledge of UK building regulations and methodologies such as RICS for WLCA. Motivation to develop your career and contribute to sustainable design innovation. You will apply your skills in energy modelling, daylight/sunlight analysis, and overheating assessments to ensure compliance with building regulations and sustainability standards, including Part L (2021), CIBSE TM59, and the GLA s environmental requirements. In addition, you will contribute to initiatives such as Whole Lifecycle Carbon Assessments (WLCA), Circular Economy strategies, and Net Zero Carbon evaluations, collaborating with in-house and external teams to drive innovative design solutions that prioritise energy efficiency, occupant wellbeing, and environmental stewardship. To be considered for this role, the successful candidate will have: An MSc in Sustainable Design, Environmental Engineering, or a related field. 5+ years experience in building physics and sustainability consultancy, including carrying out SAP calculations and DSM energy modelling, checking overheating risks in line with CIBSE TM59 and familiarity with the BRE s daylight/sunlight methodology. Relevant accreditations (e.g., BREEAM, SAP, DEA, CEEQUAL, IEMA, CIBSE). Demonstrable experience in managing your own projects effectively. Familiarity with GLA requirements for residential-led developments and experience on GLA-referable projects. A strong understanding of UK regulations on energy, CO emissions, daylight/sunlight access, and overheating risks. Knowledge of current and emerging legislation and industry best practices in sustainability and carbon management. Excellent project management skills, with the ability to manage your own workload and guide others effectively. Strong analytical skills and attention to detail, with the ability to interpret data and present informed conclusions. Strong written and verbal communication skills, including experience preparing reports and delivering presentations. A good knowledge of UK planning and construction processes.
