    Essential skills and attributes

    Experience of the installation and maintenance of commercial refrigeration systems and associated components working to industry best practice.

    Good understanding of electrical controls
    Welding, soldering and brazing skills
    The ability to plan work and meet deadlines
    The ability to work well alone, unsupervised and as part of a team

    Full UK driving licence

    Reporting to the Workshop Controller, the main job function will be to undertake maintenance and repair activities on commercial vehicles/trailers of all types, to diagnose faults, carry out tests on vehicles and effect permanent and complete repairs. Other duties within the role will include:

    Ensure inspections are completed to a high standard along with brake tests on each trailer for MOT and servicing requirements.
    Pre MOT checking of HGV's and trailers prior to presentation to RNB Skelmersdale.
    Completing paperwork and procedures relating to compliance, warranty, contract & retail work.
    Preventative maintenance work to minimise unnecessary customer costs.
    Any other duties reasonably within your capabilities as instructed by their Manager.

    The successful candidate will have the following qualifications, skills and experience:

    Must be a "Time Served" technician or obtained a City & Guilds levels, 1, 2 & 3 or other adequate qualification;
    Have previous experience in MOT preparation and truck and trailer defect work.
    Organised and methodical approach to problem solving with attention to detail.
    Body repair experience for minor truck and trailer damage would be advantageous.
    Basic knowledge of computers and the ability to complete relevant written documentation
    Full and current UK driving licence, an LGV licence would be advantageous;
    A friendly, confident and professional manner with excellent communication skills.

    What will you be doing?

    Diagnosing, maintaining and repairing vehicle problems while adhering to Mercedes-Benz guidelines
    Servicing of vehicles to a high standard
    Working on electrical and mechanical systems
    Ability to use diagnostic equipment
    Carry out scheduled safety inspections and report any rectifications required
    Complete job cards clearly and accurately
    You must be capable of following the repair process from fault analysis to completion

You will work on our mixed recovery fleet and customer HGVs, handling maintenance, inspections and complex repairs. The role suits someone confident with heavy vehicle diagnostics, PMIs and pre-MOT checks. This is a hands-on and rewarding job in a busy environment with no weekend rota.

    What you'll do

    Diagnose and repair faults on HGVs and recovery vehicles
    Carry out routine maintenance, PMIs and MOT preparation
    Work with drivers to understand reported defects
    Complete job cards and service sheets correctly
    Keep the working area clean and organised
    Support apprentices when required

    What you need

    NVQ Level 3 or similar in Heavy Vehicle Maintenance (or strong proven experience)
