An exciting contract vacancy has arisen for a highly accomplished and experienced couple to take day-to-day care of an all-year-round calving herd in Mid Dorset. The farm forms one of two similar sized units run by the owners as well as young stock units. The herd of 450 calves year-round and are milked through a 24:24 Baumatic parlour. Cows are cubicle housed and grazed through the season and fed a partial TMR in winter with top up in parlour. You will both come with a proven track record of running a herd of this size. The role will involve all aspects of caring for the herd with responsibility for milking, calving, fertility, being proactive with herd health, record keeping, and calf rearing. Key responsibilities will include ensuring the high yielding Pedigree herd of Holsteins are milked correctly through the robots, foot trimming, AI, herd health & fertility, record keeping, youngstock feeding and robot maintenance. The herd is milked via a very modern Fullwood 24 x 48 herringbone parlour with in parlour feeders. Whilst housed cows have access to sand cubicles with tractor scraped, passages, and are fed a TMR consisting of whole-crop and grass silages.
The appointed person will be assistant to head herdsperson will be expected to take an interest in the day to day herd management to include extensive March to November grazing, so able to use quad bike and do electric fencing etc.

We have a new contract vacancy for a herdsperson to take responsibility for all aspects of the livestock daily routine on this family farm, 7 miles north of Shepton Mallet. Cows are calved all year round and are fed a TMR and currently yield in excess of 10,000ltrs on x 2 milkings. The unit has a well maintained 20/20 GEA HB parlour with ACR's and cluster flush and the in-parlour feeding is used to supplement the TMR. The housing is in sawdust bedded cubicles which provide a comfortable environment for the cows in winter and an extensive track system allows for access to grazing through the summer. We have a fantastic, varied position which requires an enthusiastic and dedicated person to rear youngstock for a 250-cow dairy unit in the heart of Cheshire. Alongside this role you will carry out sheep work and have the responsibility for a lambing flock of around 150 mules.
