    Avanti Automotive are looking for vehicle mechanic to work in our fast growing business.

    We are recruiting someone who is able to work well in a team and also on there own to complete a range of tasks within the automotive industry. We are located in St George, Bristol and have over 200 vehicles in stock and prepare every vehicle to a high mechanical standard. Your job will be to carry out a PreDelivery Inspection on Sold Vehicles and then fit parts to replace worn older parts. We are looking for a Mechanic to join our team of 7 Mechanics and our workshop manager.

    Hours: Our workshop is open Monday to Friday 8:00am-17:00pm which means not working Saturdays.

    You'll bring your proven track record of carrying out electrical installations in a domestic dwelling to support the electrical team. Your work is scheduled in for you and jobs are shared with you via an electronic handheld device (your PDA) so you'll be comfortable using technology and IT systems.

    You'll work alone primarily, so you'll be confident working to your own initiative, but you will get plenty of support from your team. The team get together for team meetings, and you'll attend toolbox talks for regular training and company updates.

    You'll be given a company vehicle to get around, so you'll need a full UK manual driving licence. You'll be about and about working in customer's homes throughout the region.

    You'll be an ambassador for us with a "can do" attitude and a right service, first time mentality. You'll enjoy providing high quality service to our customers whilst being the friendly face of Aster.

    About You

    You'll be a fully qualified electrician, holding an AM2 qualification or equivalent, with demonstrable experience in domestic electrical installations. You will carry out inspection and testing to British standards to a set programme, advising on progress and completing all necessary records in hard and electronic files as required.

    As an electrician, you'll know that safety is priority therefore you'll have knowledge and understanding of safety regulations and will carry out all works in line with this. You'll also have a good understanding of health & safety regulations.

    You'll be motivated with a focus on customer service as you'll be in our customers' homes every day.

    You will be customer facing, take pride in your work, have good problem solving and installation skills and be willing to become a key contributor to providing an excellent level of service and customer satisfaction.

    You'll also liaise with our internal colleagues to ensure works are completed and any ongoing works are logged appropriately. You'll have a flexible approach to work with the ability to take part in an out of hours standby rota within your region.

    You'll be able to work effectively in a team and autonomously when necessary and have enthusiasm for providing excellent customer service and an ability to keep calm in difficult situations. Good communication skills both verbally and written are essential for this role. You will need to be willing and able to meet face fit requirements. As mentioned, you'll be provided with a company van so you'll need a full, UK driving licence.

    Essential Requirements

    Duties
    Conduct routine inspections and maintenance on heavy goods vehicles to ensure compliance with safety standards.
    Diagnose mechanical issues using schematics and repair equipment as necessary.
    Perform equipment repairs, including welding and fabrication tasks when required.
    Assemble components and systems as per specifications, ensuring high-quality workmanship.
    Operate forklifts safely to assist in the movement of heavy parts and materials.
    Maintain a clean and organised work environment, adhering to health and safety regulations.
    Collaborate with team members to troubleshoot issues and implement effective solutions.
    Document all maintenance activities accurately for record-keeping purposes.

    Experience
    Proven experience as an HGV Technician or in a similar role within the automotive industry is essential.
    Strong mechanical knowledge with hands-on experience using hand tools and diagnostic equipment.
    Ability to perform heavy lifting as required during repairs and maintenance tasks.
    Familiarity with vehicle assembly processes and the ability to interpret technical schematics is advantageous.
    HGV Licence essential for road testing.

    Various shift patterns are available, standard day shifts, 4 on / 4 off shift pattern and a late shift are available. Some flexibility is required to meet customer demands.

    Reporting to the Workshop Controller, the main job function will be to undertake maintenance and repair activities on commercial vehicles/trailers of all types, to diagnose faults, carry out tests on vehicles and effect permanent and complete repairs. Other duties within the role will include:
    Ensure inspections are completed to a high standard along with brake tests on each trailer for MOT and servicing requirements.
    Pre MOT checking of HGV's and trailers prior to presentation to RNB Skelmersdale.
    Completing paperwork and procedures relating to compliance, warranty, contract & retail work.
    Preventative maintenance work to minimise unnecessary customer costs.
    Any other duties reasonably within your capabilities as instructed by their Manager.

    The successful candidate will have the following qualifications, skills and experience:
    Must be a "Time Served" technician or obtained a City & Guilds levels, 1, 2 & 3 or other adequate qualification;
    Have previous experience in MOT preparation and truck and trailer defect work.
    Organised and methodical approach to problem solving with attention to detail.
    Body repair experience for minor truck and trailer damage would be advantageous.
    Basic knowledge of computers and the ability to complete relevant written documentation
    Full and current UK driving licence, an LGV licence would be advantageous;
    A friendly, confident and professional manner with excellent communication skills.
    Ability to work well under pressure and as part of a larger team as well as on their own initiative.
