Role: Head of Customer Operations (UK)Location: London, On-Site (Office Based), Full TimeHi, I’m Daryl, VP of Supply and Operations at Zen EducateI have been part of Zen’s phenomenal growth since we launched in 2017, and I am looking for a Head of Customer Operations to help build and scale our customer support function. The MissionZen Educate is rapidly scaling - our UK business aims to grow 3x YoY, we have completed three acquisitions, and we are raising our Series C in the next 18 months. However, our Customer Operations function is still in its infancy and not set up for the next level of scale. The “customer” for the purposes of this role is our educator - teachers and teaching assistants. We are looking for a strategic architect to own our customer support and take it from a reactive model to a world class, tech enabled operations engine. This means:- Moving from fragmented, manual workflows to an automated operating system;- Shifting from firefighting on tickets, towards proactively improving customer experience;- Transforming support from being a cost centre to being the strategic customer voice. What you will ownEnd to end functional ownership: You will define the KPIs that matter, and own the unit economics of turning customer support into customer loyalty.Cross-functional strategy: You will be the primary feedback loop for our Product and Tech teams. Your insights will directly influence strategic product builds.Operational excellence: You will design the technical infrastructure (phone systems, AI and automation tools) that allows Zen to scale 10x without 10x-ing the headcount.Developing high performing teams: You will coach and mentor a team of 6 individual contributors (half in London, half in Cape Town).Who You AreWe are hiring for the leader you will become, not just the role we need today. You are:A first-principles thinker: You don’t just copy and paste industry standard customer support playbooks - you ask why the process exists and figure out how to automate it.Analytically rigorous: You thrive in the data. You can build the models to prove why we should or shouldn’t invest in a strategy.Bias for action: You are comfortable with balancing the need to make decisions on good data, while knowing to grow fast we need to execute and iterate quickly. If this sounds like you, I’d love to hear from you! Drop me a message at We welcome applicants with diverse backgrounds, and different experiences and perspectives - just like the staff who teach through Zen and the children at the schools we work with. We believe in hiring the best people from the widest pool and creating an inclusive atmosphere with a culture where people’s voices are heard and all our team can look forward to coming to work.We value and respect all differences in all people (seen and unseen). We believe in an environment with equal access to career development opportunities and actively encourage applications from BAME candidates. If you require any reasonable adjustments during your interview process with us, please do let us know.Due to the high volume of applications, we regret that we are unable to provide individual feedback on initial submissions. High-level bits to keep in mind 🔍Location: Our HQ is based in London (Oval). If you're in and around London, we'd love you to be onsite with our Product Team but also open to speaking with you regardless of where you are in the UK!Type: Full-timeSalary: £60,000 – £70,000Who I am and what I am looking for👋 Hi, I’m JC, Head of Design at Zen Educate. I started sketching out the first versions of the product on evenings and weekends before we had a team, a logo, or an office. Now, I lead our growing design function as we tackle more complex, ambitious, and impactful problems across both sides of the Atlantic.I’m looking for a Senior Product Designer who wants to do meaningful work at the intersection of service, system, and interface design. Someone who cares deeply about users, communicates clearly, thinks in flows not screens, and is excited to partner closely with product, engineering, our commercial team and most importantly, our customers, to solve real-world problems in education.Design at Zen is about shaping problems, navigating ambiguity, collaborating with conviction — and crafting simple, scalable, elegant experiences that make a real difference. Here’s what we value in our designers:Clarity over all – clear thinking, clear visuals, clear storytellingSystems thinking – not just how a screen works, but how it fits into the wider workflowCraft + impact – quality design isn’t precious, it’s purposefulBias to ship – perfection is a direction, not a requirementCuriosity and candour – great design comes from great questions and honest collaborationWe’re still a small design team, which means you’ll have a lot of room to shape how we work, build design maturity across the org, and leave your fingerprints on a product with deep real-world impact. What we are building and whyGetting the right teacher into the right school at the right time is a nuanced, meaningful problem. Done well, it improves children’s outcomes and gets more money into classrooms (we’ve already saved UK schools over £30 million since 2017). Done poorly, it burns out teachers, wastes money, and disrupts education. Our platform helps teachers find meaningful work and schools fill roles efficiently. It supports internal operations teams matching supply and demand, mobile-first experiences for educators, and tools for schools to manage short- and long-term needs. We’re well established in the UK and rapidly growing in the US — a market that’s similar in spirit but different in all the details. That means complex, fascinating design challenges at every level: workflow UX, service design, visual systems, information architecture, messaging, accessibility, trust, and much more. What the role looks like in practiceAll job descriptions are a bit abstract — so here’s a snapshot of the kinds of things our designers have been doing recently:“There's a lot of autonomy at Zen and you have the chance to carve out space for what you want to work on. You get to be involved in the whole design process from helping to define what you'll work on, to delivery — it's very collaborative. Some highlights that I'm working on would be: a design-led project to improve the teacher request flow, and helping refine the brand as we grow.” – James, Senior Product Designer on the School Team“Lately I’ve been diving into some really exciting work aimed at transforming how educators engage with booking requests for daily supply in our app. We’re exploring smarter, more intuitive experiences to cut down on ignored requests — unlocking better data, faster decisions, and ultimately helping us make stronger, more successful matches between educators and schools.” – Sam, Senior Product Designer on the Marketplace TeamYou’ll work across the full product lifecycle — from discovery through to delivery — with a focus on user outcomes, speed of learning, and design quality. You’ll also mentor other designers, contribute to evolving our design culture, and help shape how we scale. What you might like or dislikeLike any org, we’ve made certain trade-offs that shape how we work. Here’s some context to help you decide if Zen is a good fit:💻 How We WorkDesign is a partner, not a service. You’ll co-own problems, shape solutions, and drive delivery with your squad.Lean over large. We prefer efficiently created Figma flows, sharp critiques, and weekly iterations over lengthy decks and bloated specs.Design system exists and is growing. But you’ll help define and evolve it — it’s not “done” or rigid.🌱 Growth & ProgressionChoose your own adventure. You’ll shape your path, not wait for a ladder to appear. We value influence, not just individual contribution.Levels not titles. We use Levels to reflect growth and scope, not inflated titles. There’s plenty of space to stretch without switching tracks.Shared context, not command and control. You’ll be expected to lead your work and communicate your thinking — with support but not micromanagement💸 Compensation Solid, but not flashy compensation. We pay decently, but we won’t beat out companies with deeper pockets (yet!).Progression = impact. Pay increases come with increased level and scope. We invest in your growth, not just reward it after the fact.🤝 Team CultureSmall design team, big ambitions. You won’t get lost in a 50-person design org — and you’ll help define what “great” looks like.Async and face-to-face collaboration. Iterative sharing, with structured rituals and casual touch points to stay aligned and connected.Mission-led and user-focused. Our product isn’t a vanity tool or a growth hack. It’s a platform with deep real-world impact.Still scrappy in places. Not everything is polished or perfectly resourced. If you like clean chaos and building things properly, you’ll thrive. How we hireWe aim to hire fast and fairly — clarity over games. Our ideal process is: apply one week, offer the next. Here’s what that looks like:Recruiter chatWe’ll check the basics — your availability, compensation expectations, and whether this feels like a mutual fit.Meeting with meI’ll want to understand how you work, what matters to you in a design role, and how we can support your best work A deep dive into a past project (or two) will follow. We’ll look for clear storytelling, design thinking, collaboration, and the impact of your work.Design task sessionYou’ll work on a real product problem — shaping it, exploring options, and figuring out how you think. Culture & collaboration chatYou’ll meet a few of the people you’d be working alongside — outside of the product sphere. This is where we get a sense of what it’s like to work at Zen. Expect a relaxed, candid chat about team dynamics, values, and ways of working. We believe in feedback, but only share it if you ask for it. If you want it, just say so — we’ll be honest and constructive about how we saw things.Sound exciting? Let’s talk.If you read all this and thought “hell yes” (even if it’s a slightly nervous one), then please apply. If you skimmed and thought “maybe,” apply anyway — you’ll get a clearer sense once we chat. We’re always open to great people, even if the timing isn’t perfect. We currently have a clear need for one more Senior Product Designer to join the team — maybe it’s you? Read Less

I’m hiring for a key role in my team to lead our schools marketing function. We need a builder: someone who can architect the strategy, build the scalable systems to deliver it, and drive the execution that fuels our sales team. You won't just be running campaigns; you will be defining what great looks like and building the marketing machine that allows us to scale efficiently. You will bridge the gap between high-level strategy and ground-level execution, ensuring our ABM, content, positioning, and sales enablement are world-class.The team is lean, so we need someone who thrives in a hands-on environment and is comfortable building while doing. You’ll own the ABM strategy and drive our B2B acquisition engine across the UK. This is a high-influence role focused on building our presence through targeted outbound campaigns and robust sales enablement. You’ll be responsible for how schools engage with Zen, directly impacting our lead flow, conversion rates, and overall market dominance. Here’s what I value:Strategy = Systemisation. You don't just have good ideas; you build the systems that make those ideas repeatable without you.High Standards & Ownership. You take full accountability for the number. If the pipeline is light, you take it personally and fix it.Customer-first mindset. You ask the right questions and approach your work through the lens of the schools we serve.Player/Coach Mindset. You are happy to roll up your sleeves and write copy or build a workflow, but you do it with a view to scaling it.If you're excited to play a critical part of Zen’s UK growth, make an impact fast, and help define how we position ourselves to schools, I’d love to hear from you. What we’re building and whyGetting the right teacher into the right school at the right time is a real-world problem worth solving for the education system, for children, and for the long-term sustainability of school staffing.Since launching in 2017, we've saved schools over £30 million. In 2024, we closed the largest EdTech round in Europe and are expanding rapidly in both the UK and US. 🚀To keep growing in the UK, we need to reach more schools, strengthen our brand, and create scalable, automated systems that support a high-performing sales team that’s where you come in.What you’ll actually do 🎬Let’s get specific. Here’s the kind of work you’ll lead:1. Architect the Growth Engine (Systemisation)Move us from manual effort to a scalable machine. Build and optimise the automations, lead scoring, and workflows that drive MQLs to Sales with a big focus on Account Based MarketingOwn the martech stack and data flow for schools, ensuring we have visibility on what works and why.Design the Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for the function to ensure high-quality execution at scale.2. Drive Commercial Impact & Sales AlignmentThis is not a brand awareness role; it is a revenue role. You will work lock-step with Sales Directors to ensure lead quality and conversion.Own Sales Enablement: You will identify gaps in our pitch/collateral before Sales does. You will build the battlecards, case studies, and localised messaging that help them win.Review and upgrade the current operational output of the marketing function.3. Strategic PositioningDefine how we win in the market. Refine our narrative to cut through the noise.Lead our multi-channel strategy (Email, Paid, Partnerships), ensuring every channel has a clear ROI and a playbook with a focus on Account based Marketing. Why this role is unique ⭐️• You are the Architect, not just the Operator. You aren't inheriting a perfect playbook to execute. You have the mandate to look at our current setup, tear down what doesn't work, and build the systems that will scale us for the next 5 years.• You define what great looks like. We have momentum, but we need maturity. You get to set the standard for how a world-class Revenue Marketing function operates, from the tech stack to the messaging.• True Commercial Ownership. This isn't a support function sitting in the corner making brochures. You sit at the table with Sales Leadership, owning the revenue number and driving the commercial strategy for the UK.• High Autonomy in a High-Growth environment. You will have the freedom to test, break, and build things quickly, without layers of bureaucracy slowing you down.• Mission-Critical Impact. You are solving a genuine crisis in the education system. Every efficiency you build puts money back into classrooms and gets teachers where they are needed most to help students thrive! What makes you a great fit 👍You’ll thrive here if:•Proven Builder: You have set up marketing automation and sales enablement functions from scratch or significantly upgraded them.•Commercial Fluency: You view Marketing as a revenue function. You understand deal cycles, you sit in sales meetings, and you optimise for closed-won business, not just vanity metrics.•Technical Independence: You are hands-on with the stack. Whether it's , CRM automation, or data analysis, you can build your own workflows and dashboards without waiting for an ops/ data team.•High Agency: You thrive in ambiguity. You don't need a roadmap handed to you; you are the one who draws the map. If you see a gap, you fill it without waiting for permission. What this role is NOT ❌We want to be upfront, this role isn’t for everyone. Here’s what might make it a bad fit:•Performance Marketing or SEO specialistWhile we value those skills, this role isn't about paid channels or SEO. This is a B2B Revenue Marketing role, where you will be architecting outbound systems and ABM plays and we are looking for someone with previous experience in B2B sales, ABM and revenue marketing. •You want structure handed to you.We have a starting point, but it needs significant rework. This role is about setting what great looks like, redefining our strategy and building scalable systems, not following a fully mapped-out plan.•You’re not a builderThis role is hands-on. You’ll be setting up the systems, processes, and automations, running campaigns, refining messaging, and reviewing performance. We don’t have layers of specialists; you have a very small team and you will need to roll up your sleeves•You don’t like context switching. You’ll move between tactical delivery, big-picture planning, team syncs, and cross-functional collaboration, often in the same day. If that sounds more chaotic than energising, it might not be for you.•You avoid the messy work. We are scaling fast. Data might be messy; processes might be broken. You need to be the person who runs toward that fire, not the one who complains about the smoke.🤝 Our hiring processWe believe in moving fast and respecting your time. Our interview process is broken down into 3 stages, with all interviews in a given stage scheduled simultaneously. Once all interviews in a stage are complete, we aim to get back to you within 36 hours.Stage 1:Intro call with our recruiter: we’ll cover basics like your background, salary expectations, and timelines.Stage 2:Intro call with me: we’ll dig into your experience and how you approach growth, automation, and cross-functional work.Stage 3:Task & review: you’ll complete a short take-home task and then present your thinking to me and a team lead.Sales leadership call: you’ll speak with one of the leaders from the Sales team🎁 Perks & benefitsWork that you want to talk aboutOwnership in the company25+ days of holiday (increases with tenure)On-site gym, showers, bike parking & café at our Central London officeElectric car & Cycle to Work schemesCoaching, life insurance & health insuranceFun-loving, mission-driven teamInterested?
