A little more about your role… We have an opportunity for a Principal or Senior Transport Planner to join our Mobility Planning Team. There is flexibility around the location of this role, with potential WSP home offices being our Birmingham, Edinburgh, Glasgow, Leeds, Liverpool, Manchester or Newcastle offices. WSP's hybrid working policy will allow for a mix of in-office and home working. In this role you will work alongside colleagues across the UK in the delivery of transport, traffic and related infrastructure projects, including major Development Consent Orders projects in the Energy and Industrial sectors across the UK. This is a varied role but responsibilities will include: Undertaking Transport Statements, Transport Assessments, Environmental Statement Transport Chapters, and Travel Plans, including playing a hands-on role in Client and Local Authority scoping discussions. Lead technical discussions around accessibility of project / construction sites for a wide range of modes and articulate the impacts and mitigations required to support planning approvals. Work in a multi-disciplinary environment and take a proactive approach in working with adjacent disciplines, such as noise and air quality, ecology, and highway teams Take ownership of delegated tasks such as the preparation of fee estimates and proposals for review by Project Directors Be flexible and upskill your knowledge to enable you to work across other transport workstreams such as comms and engagement, to support a sustainable and balanced workflow for the local team.  Work in a collaborative client/consultant environment and representing our values when delivering the work for our clients Keep up-to-date with relevant standards and policies; raise WSP profile by networking, and attending conferences. Responsible for ensuring your projects are delivered to budget, programme, and required technical standards. Providing mentoring and or line management for our developing professionals. To find out more about our Transport Planning business follow the link below to discover what awaits you at WSP: https://www.wsp.com/en-gb/services/transport-planning What we will be looking for you to demonstrate… Experience as lead author of Scoping Reports, Transport Assessments and Environmental Statement Transport Chapters Experience of delivering a wide range of transport planning projects across a number of specialist areas such as development planning, the energy and industrial sectors, highway schemes, sustainable transport, active travel, junction design (priority, roundabout, signals) and knowledge of relevant standards  Experience in the preparation of Local Authority Transport Plans and Strategies would be beneficial, as would experience in undertaking transport feasibility studies, option assessment reports and providing inputs into transport related business cases; Strong numerical, spatial, and analytical skills and excellent working knowledge of MS Office tools; Ability to produce project reports, including technical documents to a high technical standard; Ability to communicate technical arguments to technical and non-technical clients, and present outputs from studies to range of audiences; Knowledge of current transport policy at sub-regional, regional and national level; Don’t quite meet all the criteria? A little more about your role… We are seeking to recruit a Principal Transport Planner to join our Transport Planning team in Bristol. You will be based from our city centre office, with our approach to hybrid working enabling a mix of in-office and home working. Your role will be a varied one but typical responsibilities include the following: Managing a range of transport planning projects, with responsibility for project team management and collaboration, budgeting, programming and technical excellence. Making an active contribution to our four pillars (People; Clients & Growth; Operations; and Technical Excellence) and supporting our Leads in these roles. Identifying and developing further opportunities with existing clients. Supporting Project Managers and Directors in the preparation of bids, fee proposals and project programmes. Attending and presenting at internal and external technical knowledge sharing events. Supervising our early career professionals in undertaking technical tasks and coaching them in acquiring new skills. Working in a large multi-disciplinary office with access to a range of people at a similar career stage across a variety of fields. Working as part of a team, supporting the growth of our Mobility team in Bristol and more broadly across our network of offices. Your Team Our Bristol Mobility team includes transport planning, modelling and design professionals who work on an extensive portfolio of multi-disciplinary and cross sector projects for a range of mainly public sector clients. Key project specialisms include active travel network development, bus, coach and mass transit), freight, policy development, studies and strategies, business case development and Government funding applications, and development management. These projects are generally located in the South West, but support is also provided to other schemes across the UK and internationally whilst working closely with our planning, infrastructure design, structures and environmental teams. Our local and regional pipeline of work is extensive, and the successful applicant will help us to deliver a challenging and exciting portfolio of work for a range of clients across the wider region including Local Authorities, Sub-National Transport Bodies and Mayoral Combined Authorities. You will be supported by senior members of the Mobility team and by our virtual UK wide specialist teams, including industry leading experts. What we will be looking for you to demonstrate… Experience in delivering active travel planning projects, complemented by project experience in some or all the following areas of transport planning: public transport business case development, transport studies and strategies and transport policy development. Up-to-date knowledge on latest transport legislation and policy covering topics such as active travel, bus and local transport planning and a desire to to work at both strategic and detailed levels,  Strong numerical and analytical skills and excellent working knowledge of MS Office tools (including Word, Excel and PowerPoint), transport data analysis and presentation software including GIS Ability to produce technical project reports and accessible non-technical public reports and presentations for a range of clients and stakeholders to a high technical standard. Strong interpersonal and communication skills, able to communicate confidently with clients, stakeholders, team members and present at meetings, workshops and public forums. The role is based from our city centre Liverpool or Manchester offices, with hybrid working allowing for a mix of in-office and home-working. As a Principal or Senior Transport Planner you will take the lead and manage a range of transport projects across our business. You will work across modes to develop transport strategies, policies and business cases, and support the development of transport programmes and projects from inception through to completion. This is a varied role that will include some of the following responsibilities:  Lead a variety of projects and proposals (both technical and commercial inputs,) managing resources and delivering high quality outputs in line with client requirements. Lead and manage tasks as part of a multi-disciplinary team, working with our other WSP service lines to deliver large multi-disciplinary projects from concept to delivery.
