    Deputising in the absence of the Manager (this does not have to be office based) and maintain the nursery diary.

    Have good time management to ensure that you are supporting the Manager with supervising staff, completing peer on peer observations, observing children, room spot checks, planning & assessment checks, keeping staff files in check and up to date, reviews, and official meetings.

    Support the Manager in generating and maintaining daily routines, checks, systems, ensuring children are always safe.

    Support the Manager with marketing the setting by conducting showarounds and keeping social media up to date.

    Training/coaching staff and students (including noodle now support and conducting supervisions)

    Ensuring a high standard of care is maintained daily (including condition of the environment)

    You will share the responsibility for safeguarding and promoting the welfare of all the children, hold the Deputy DSL role and complete all relevant local authority training.

    Conduct staff meetings alongside the Manager and minute the meetings.

    Support the manager to conduct disciplinary meetings, supervisions and appraisals maintaining confidentiality at all times.

    Supporting & covering staff when required.

    Adhere to the policies and procedures at Little Chiefs Day Nurseries Limited and work within the Statutory Early Years Foundation Stage, Child protection act, health and safety legislation, local Safeguarding information and within the guidelines of Ofsted.

    To work as part of a team and support members of staff and children in the nursery, leading by example.

    Follow direction from Nursery Manager and support with daily routine cores e.g., cleaning and occasionally support with general admin jobs.

    Plan for the room/age group (with support from staff); track the assessment of the children; deal with issues that may arise; pass on information from the manager and ensure the routines and expectations are carried out. If leading a room have a key worker group with responsibility of their learning and assessments e.g., learning journey books and next steps as well as supporting all other children in the nursery.

    Work closely with the manager and other room leaders.

    Interact, supervise, and keep the children safe and happy as well as supporting teamwork (including supporting cleaning/daily cores).

    Main duties and responsibilities:

    As Deputy you will be expected to safeguard and support the wellbeing of children, staff, and parents always and follow the nursery policies and procedures. As the role is predominately room based you will deliver activities; plan fun and engaging activities (with support from others); conduct observations/recording the learning of the children and keep high standards. You will carry out supervision of staff and track whole nursery progress. You will liaise and regularly communicate with parents, particularly the ones in your key group and will be asked to take part in parent consultations.

    When working within the nursery you will assist with the preparation and maintenance of the equipment and work closely with the staff as well as regular meetings with the manager and other room leaders. As the role of a Deputy is varied you may need to help with the dishing up, preparation of food and clearing away of equipment as well as supporting the children when needed with eating (food prep will require food safety qualification).Depending on the age of the child you may need to assist with their toileting needs and care e.g., changing nappies, feeding, and comforting.

    You will be expected to manage the staff in the nursery with manager which may include delegating tasks, allocating breaks, identifying training needs, delivering staff meetings, ensuring room ratios are kept. This does not have to be office based however some office time will be allocated.

    When the manager is not present you will be the main contact of the setting and will be always a good role model.

    • Support, supervise and mentor playroom-based staff and students
    • In conjunction with the management team identify, address and support in individual training needs and self-development such as supervisions and appraisals
    • Assume additional management responsibilities as and when required

    CANDIDATE REQUIREMENTS

    • Level 3 Early Years qualification
