Job DescriptionCan you see yourself joining one of the country's leading forces?

This is your opportunity to transfer your skills and experience to West Midlands Police.

West Midlands Police is changing the face of policing, and you could be part of our major plans.

West Midlands Police are currently recruiting for Transferees at the rank of Sergeant.

The West Midlands is a busy, urban area offering a diverse range of communities to protect and support. Our HQ is in Birmingham, which is the youngest city in Europe - with under-25s accounting for nearly 40% of the population. But it's not all about the second city... we cover as far afield as Coventry and over to where the Black Country meets Staffordshire as well as policing six Premier League and Football League clubs.

Neighbourhood policing continues to play a significant part in tackling issues and working in partnership with our local communities. We have teams based across our patch to investigate crime and vulnerability, in our CID and Public Protection units. We have central Firearms, Operations, Offender Management, Intelligence and Professional Standards departments and work in partnership with police colleagues in the West Midlands CTU, NABIS, and the Regional Organised Crime Unit.

Although we aim to post you to a role in line with your preferences and experience, postings will be decided in line with organisational needs.

We serve 2.8 million people in an area rich in diversity, with around 30 per cent of its population from ethnic minority backgrounds. Our force values embody what we are, to apply you must have real passion for people and communities. You will have a desire to work alongside our local communities to build relationships and make a difference to the lives of people in the West Midlands.

And we know it's not all about the job. The West Midlands is a great place to live too. The region offers great leisure, sport, shopping and transport options. Birmingham Airport is an international hub, served by most of the budget and major airlines. Trains from Birmingham can reach central London in less than 90 minutes and our Metro tram system is expanding too. There's always major acts appearing at our local stadiums and arenas, big name shows visiting theatres in our major cities and vibrant nightlife across the region. There's five Michelin starred restaurants, dozens of country parks and green space to explore and cheap house prices too. Birmingham even has more canals than Venice!

Ensuring our Police Officers have plenty of development opportunities is high on our agenda; you can expect regular openings for promotion alongside the ability to learn and obtain new skills to further your career.

Whether you are looking at moving to the West Midlands, or are already here and are looking for the next step in your policing career, if you have a real passion for policing we would love to hear from you!

    POLICE CADETS SAFEGUARDING POLICY

West Midlands Police Cadets Safeguarding Statement.

The Volunteer Police Cadet (VPC) scheme is a national programme designed to provide a safe and secure environment where young people can meet with others and learn about policing and policing issues, contribute to community initiatives and take part in police organised activities and events. Allowing young people to have fun is at the heart of the experience too.

West Midlands Police is a provider of the VPC scheme through a number of Cadet Units across the force area. Each unit has a leader team comprising of police staff, police officers and adult volunteers, who follow policies, programme and procedures overseen by the Citizens in Policing Team, based at Lloyd House.

Our police cadets and the police staff, police officers and adult volunteers who support our cadet units all come from a wide variety of different backgrounds, so we will all uphold the highest standards in safeguarding and supervising our children, young people and adults at risk.

We will ensure that everyone involved in our Volunteer Police Cadet scheme knows what is expected of them, so that we can promote trust and confidence in what we do in our young people and the adult support networks that surround them.

We will build and maintain a culture where our young people and vulnerable adults are respected and listened to, know what safeguarding matters are and how they can confidently report any concerns they may have.

We will give equal priority to keeping our young people and adults at risk safe from all types of harm and abuse, regardless of their age, disability, gender reassignment, race, religion, belief, sex or sexual orientation (all defined as protected characteristics within the Equality Act 2010).

We will ensure that all of our VPC staff and leader teams are checked and vetted by us prior to being able to participate in cadet unit work and activities, and will undergo a programme of continuous training for as long as they support the cadet scheme.

West Midlands Police is a Disability Confident Leader - the highest level an organisation can achieve under the scheme run by the Department of Work and Pensions. As part of our commitment we operate a 'Disability Confident Interview Scheme' - all candidates who declare a disability and meet the essential criteria for the role will be offered an interview.

It is important to note that there may be occasions where it is not practicable or appropriate to interview all disabled people who meet the essential criteria for the job. For example: in certain recruitment situations such as high-volume, seasonal and high-peak times, the employer may wish to limit the overall numbers of interviews offered to both disabled people and non-disabled people. In these circumstances, the employer could select the candidates who best meet the essential criteria for the job, as they would do for non-disabled applicants.
