The post holder will be responsible for ensuring the stability, performance, and security of critical Linux-based systems, while supporting automation, monitoring, and high-availability environments.

Job responsibilities include: Maintain high availability and performance of Linux systems across production and test environments Monitor infrastructure health and respond proactively to performance alerts Support planned maintenance, system updates, and disaster recovery procedures Participate in the organisation’s on-call rota for out-of-hours support (when required) Provide third-line support and act as the final point of technical escalation Work with a variety of technologies including RHEL, CentOS, Ubuntu, VMware, and F5 load balancers Manage web services, LAMP stack applications, Samba servers, and authentication proxies Utilise tools such as Ansible, Katello, Nagios, Prometheus, and Grafana for configuration and monitoring Automate routine tasks using scripts and infrastructure-as-code practices Maintain clear and up-to-date technical documentation Support knowledge sharing and training for first- and second-line teams
Candidate profile: Strong hands-on experience in Linux system administration (RedHat, Ubuntu, etc.) Proven experience supporting enterprise-level infrastructure environments Familiarity with virtualisation (VMware) and configuration management tools (Ansible, Katello) Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to act as a technical escalation point Experience working in structured environments, ideally within large or complex organisations Comfortable collaborating with cross-functional technical teams A proactive approach to professional development and keeping up with evolving technologies
