    We are looking for a Senior Technician in Mechanical Engineering to join us. In this role, you will support and develop practical related activities for the Engineering Technician Apprenticeship Scheme, working across Level 3, Level 4 and Level 6 programmes within the Skills Academy, with a particular emphasis on welding processes and techniques within a mechanical engineering context. Working closely with academics and members of the technical team, you will provide specialist support relating to machine shop activities. You will work across several laboratories with a high degree of autonomy and provide additional technical support across the academy as required. Part of our technical team responsible for the maintenance, operation and safety of college equipment, you will be able to provide full technical support to apprentice students and staff, including training and advice on the appropriate use of resources. About You We are looking for a practical and safety-focused professional with hands-on experience in welding processes and techniques. The ideal candidate will have a strong awareness of health and safety standards and be skilled in preparing, maintaining, and repairing equipment and resources effectively. You should be confident in demonstrating tasks and processes to individuals and small groups, with excellent face-to-face communication skills. The role requires a proactive team player who can contribute positively to the team while effectively managing their workload to meet deadlines and targets with minimal supervision. An international consortium of researchers from the University of Derby (UK), University of Trieste (Italy), OGS (Istituto Nazionale di Oceanografia e Geofisica Sperimentale, Italy), University of Malta (Malta), and RudenAS (Norway) works across four work packages to improve knowledge and understanding of technical, social, legal and economic frameworks that underpin the discovery and use of OFG across Europe. You will join the University of Derby as a RESCUE project co-investigator to contribute to the deployment and application of technical methods, workflows, datasets, and dissemination outputs relating to large-scale modelling of subsurface reservoir systems in the Southern North Sea. The machine learning subsurface modelling tool EMBER will be used within Petrel workflows to efficiently derive cutting-edge subsurface porosity and permeability models from large-scale 3D seismic and well datasets. The RESCUE team will then perform dynamic flow simulations for the Southern North Sea using MODFLOW6 and FloPy. This is a part-time, fixed-term contract for 12 months. About You For this research role, you will hold a PhD or equivalent (pending or awarded) in a relevant discipline. You will have experience working with methodologies and techniques in subsurface reservoir modelling using seismic reflection and wireline log data. You will be self-motivated and able to work independently, as well as being communicative and an effective team worker. You may also have an interest in working with Petrel, seismic attributes, machine learning tools, and/or dynamic flow simulations, which are desirables for this role.
