The holder of this role within The Performance Centre will assist the Performance Centre Lead in the delivery of Sports Nutrition support services to our Scholarship Programme, University Teams and External Partners. They will be responsible for designing, implementing and evaluating effective nutritional interventions for designated University priority teams/clubs and sport scholars. They will also assist in the development and delivery of both internal/external services. In addition, establishing and maintaining links to other disciplines (e.g. nutrition, physiology, psychology & physiotherapy) both within and outside of the University.
Main duties
Sports Nutrition Support
1.Responsible for the design, development and delivery of sport nutrition services within the Performance Centre, ensuring quality control and interdisciplinary practice is maintained throughout.
2. Responsible for sports nutrition services/support to UB Sport, TASS and Talent Hub sport scholars as part of their annual support programme. This will involve the design & delivery of individual, group and workshop sessions, liaising with practitioners, coaches to ensure interdisciplinary delivery through to logging support, RP logs and development of educational resources.
3. Responsible for sports nutrition support to designated UB Sport Performance teams as part of their annual support agreement. This will involve working directly with coaches, individual players (referral only), and teams as well as contributing to the delivery of educational workshops as part of the general club programme.
4. To assist with athlete profiling and design of annual packages of support for individual athletes and teams (sport scholars & performance teams).
5. To assist in the design and delivery of annual sports science support packages for UB Sport clubs and priority/performance sport teams – working with coaches, Performance Centre Manager and other practitioners whilst ensuring cost effective use of resources, impact and quality of service (personnel, equipment, facilities, budget).
6. Responsible for developing and managing the sport nutrition placement/internship programme.
7. Responsible for proactively seeking out partnerships with quality assured nutritional and food product suppliers for UB Sport scholar athletes and priority teams.
8. Act as a member of the Clean Sport advisory group – guiding policy and enforcing anti-doping standards. Also as a member of advisory group lead on the delivery of educational sessions/events and resources on both scholarship and club programmes.
9. To contribute to the Performance Centre in terms of aiding other sports science and medicine practitioners in their service provision, planning and communicating up-to-date sports nutrition practices and acting as a representative of the Performance Centre on various projects.
10. To be keep up to date with new research, practices and services in order that best practice is being followed. To communicate such updates/initiatives to relevant UBSport staff and coaching team.
11. To hold or be working towards SENr registration. Ensuring satisfactory completion if required and any CPD/training identified.
12. To undertake any other duties that may reasonably be required, and which can be accommodated within the post holders grading level.
Interdisciplinary Support
1. To contribute to the development and delivery of integrating support programmes within the Performance Centre – include liaising with coaches and other support staff professions (including internal & external practitioners).
2. Leading on identified/relevant projects through to assisting with monitoring and evaluating the support provided. Identifying areas of weakness, proactively suggestion solutions to implementing improvements to the programmes and how these are delivered. This will require specialist knowledge and expertise across sports, including specialist analysis and monitoring skills.
3. Assist with athlete profiling and the design of annual packages of support with individuals (sport scholars) and teams.
General
1. Attend and assist delivery with in-house CPD sessions.
2. Lead and assist on any projects provided by Performance Centre Lead.
3. Assist when required with data analysis and feedback.
4. To represent the Performance Sport team at appropriate meetings and to be a proactive member of the Performance Centre team to ensure the efficient and effective cross-functional delivery of services, to contribute to new developments and initiatives via ideas & expertise.
5. To work within the Performance Centre code of practice, Health & Safety regulations and SENr code of conduct, standards and guidelines. Aswell as within the regulations regarding drugs and doping in sport.
Required Knowledge, Skills, Qualifications, Experience
1. Honours Degree in Nutrition (or equivalent) specialising in sports nutrition.
2. Qualification at hight degree level (IOC diploma or MSc in Sports Nutrition or equivalent.
3. ISAK Level 1 Anthropometry Qualification.
4. SENr Graduate or Practitioner registration.
5. Knowledge of HE sports and supporting transitional/elite/student athletes.
6. Experience of working with Coaches and National Governing Bodies.
7. Experience of delivering sports nutrition workshops to teams and 1-1 consultations.
8. Knowledge of the latest sport nutrition practices.
9. The ability to work effectively as a member of a team towards quality service goals and deadlines.
10. Ability to work on own initiative.
11. Excellent oral and written communication, coupled with a strong customer service orientation, and the ability to tailor responses to specific technical and non-technical audiences.
12. Ability to prioritise and schedule workload in the face of conflicting demands.
13. Structured and methodical approach to problem solving.
14. A willingness to adopt and champion new ways of working.
15. A willingness to coach and train colleagues in your own areas of expertise.
16. Good IT Skills (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
Dimensions
Line managed by the Performance Centre Lead. You will have no direct financial or staff management responsibility. The role is focused on the delivery of a quality service to customers, working collaboratively with colleagues.

Whilst working to a set rota, you will need to prioritise your own workload to deliver on schedule and at quality.
Problem solving and decision making
You will use your knowledge and expertise to analyse problems and identify and deploy solutions. Some issues may need you to make recommendations on the implementation of a longer term plan. You will be able to proactively suggest improvements. You will be able to consult with your manager around all decisions.
Internal and external relationships
You will liaise with a wide range of staff and students, and colleagues in the wider University Team.
