    Summary You will assist in the management, coordination and reporting of the Formation and Ageing for Sustainable Battery Technologies (FAST) project led by Principal Investigator (PI) Prof. Emma Kendrick.The University of Birmingham has built a significant battery research effort over the last 8 years and leads two flagship Faraday Institution funded basic research grants – ReLiB and FAST.You will work with the Project Lead of the ReLiB project, colleagues from the Faraday Institution, university collaborators (Warwick, Oxford, Cambridge & Nottingham), academic teams from Birmingham and other appropriate professional services staff from Birmingham to ensure timely management reports, grant claims and the management of project risks.Main DutiesAs Project Officer you will be expected to work proactively, to high professional standards and use your initiative and planning skills to set your own priorities to ensure progress is maintained as expected by the Faraday Institution and the Principal Investigator (PI). Further you will ensure that all project related activity conforms to the University’s policy and procedures – including financial regulations.Coordinate FAST project activities, information, data, reporting, events, enquiries and meetings that will underpin the successful delivery of a high-profile research project in terms of key milestones, outputs and outcomes.Working with the Project Lead and Principal Investigator, University central systems and project collaborators to prepare materials for reports on project progress, . financial forecast, funding claims or other regular progress reports to internal and external stakeholders and presenting to Project Boards and other key stakeholders.Provide executive coordination support to Project Boards, work streams and working groups as required; setting agendas, collating and distributing papers and minutes and ensuring follow up action is taken. Working with the Project Leader and Principal Investigator to assess and escalate issues and risks, including monitoring the risk registers.Where appropriate support stakeholder management, ensuring effective liaison with project partners, funders and Project Boards.Manage project resources efficiently and effectively, and ensure project documentation is maintained.The funding agency actively manages the project. They will support volunteer networks, provide training and resources, develop communications, and glean community feedback to enhance participation and impact. The volunteer engagement officer will be expected to display strong organisational skills to plan, prioritise, and deliver activities, while also representing the project within the University of Birmingham and Rugby Borough Council. The pos tholder will be expected to work in the Rugby area, although flexibility will be required and some time will also be spent on university campus, particularly during the earlier stages of the role. Main DutiesThe volunteer engagement officer will initially learn from the already established Birmingham River Champions. They will work closely with university personnel leading this initiative and will receive tailored support and training in this space before applying this to the Rugby area.     Summary The PhD student will be involved in Work Package 1 (WP1) of the SHEILD network “Clinical aspects of implant-associated infection” which has the following overall objectives:determine the pathogenesis of implant associated infections (IAIs) and adverse tissue response associated with bone conduction hearing implants (BCHI) by evaluating host, bacterial and clinical factors.identify determinants and biomarkers for IAI and adverse tissue outcomes associated with bone conduction hearing implants (BCHI).optimise preventive clinical practices for reducing the occurrence of diverse tissue reactions and infection.improve the clinical management of BCHI with effective diagnostic methods and treatment protocols.The overall purpose of this research project is to identify biomarkers and develop effective antimicrobial strategies to prevent infection and inflammation related to hearing implants.This PhD project aims to identify determinants of IAI associated with hearing implants by investigating associations between proteomics, microbial profile and clinical outcome by analysing a large pool of banked biosamples. Research activities include:Identifying biomarkers (cellular and microbial) determining tissue health following implantation.Developing and validating non-invasive sampling and analytical methods which can be applied both in clinical observation (studies and routine care) and in an innovative pathway for personalised preventative care.Evaluating the effect of moving treatment from the operating room to a treatment room using a prospective sampling study (proteomics, microbiome, clinical outcome data).Investigating associations between surgical technique, treatment location and patient factors.Optimisation of treatment of adverse soft tissue reactions by refining postoperative maintenance strategies aiming to develop tailored protocols for the prevention of IAI.The person taking on the project will need to work closely with the clinical teams and the patients and to do laboratory and computer-based work.
