    • Provide strategic and operational leadership to the department, ensuring services meet patient needs and organisational priorities.
    • Manage departmental budgets and workforce planning to ensure financial and operational sustainability.

    • Support staff development through appraisals, training programmes, and mentoring.

The medical ward has 26 beds and admits children between the ages of 0-17 years with a variety of chronic conditions including CF, diabetes and epilepsy as well as those with acute episodes relating to viral infections, mental health presentations as well as having an open access policy for those with oncology diagnosis.  In this position you will have the opportunity to develop leadership skills, work with many different members of the MDT from a multitude of specialities and be pivotal in influencing the delivery of care to a large number of children who are admitted to the area. Extensive experience in acute paediatrics is essential in this role as well as excellent communication skills the ability to decision make, be proactive and forward thinking. Alongside this being able to motivate and support staff is essential as well as having the ability to adapt to changing priorities. You will be supported by our paediatric education team ,as well as the paediatric matrons and other band seven ward managers within the Royal Alex.
