Purpose of the role Colas Ltd have have an exciting opportunity for 2 x Highways Maintenance Site Supervisors to join our team based at Guilden Sutton depot, CH2 4EX to deliver an end-to-end highways capital programme to include carriageway and footway improvements, structure patching, surface treatment programmes, road marking replacements, vehicle restraint systems works and street furniture improvements. Purpose of the role We are seeking a Operations Co-ordinator based at the Doxey depot, ST18 9LG. The role will ensure the smooth, safe, and compliant running of depot operations. You will manage the receipt, storage, and distribution of materials, tools, and equipment used in highways maintenance, with key responsibilities including health and safety compliance, inventory management, and winter maintenance support. This role also involves acting as Fire Marshall and First Aider. Main Responsibilities As the Operations Co-ordinator, you will oversee the efficient receipt, inspection, and recording of deliveries, managing stock levels and supporting purchasing to ensure materials, tools, and PPE are available when needed. You will be responsible for the safe storage and distribution of key inventory items such as aggregates, grit salt, fuel, signage, and consumables, while maintaining accurate stock records and managing waste disposal processes. Health and safety compliance is paramount, and you will ensure that hazardous substances are handled in line with COSHH regulations, maintain depot equipment in accordance with PUWER and LOLER standards, and carry out Fire Marshall and First Aid duties. During the winter months, you will support gritting and winter maintenance operations by coordinating grit stock, vehicle servicing, and the dispatch of gritting vehicles, while being available for on-call duties including evenings and weekends. You will also maintain a clean, organised, and safe depot environment, coordinate vehicle and plant maintenance, liaise with procurement and site teams for timely deliveries, participate in audits and inspections, and champion continuous improvement initiatives such as 5S and lean practices to drive depot innovation and operational excellence. You will perform any other operational duties as required. Ensure all activities are undertaken with due regard for the environment, to prevent pollution, comply with legal and corporate requirements and minimise environmental impact.Ideal Candidate The ideal candidate will have 2–3 years’ experience in storekeeping or logistics in highways, civil engineering, or construction. You’ll have strong organisational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work independently under pressure. A good understanding of road maintenance materials, COSHH, PUWER, and LOLER regulations is essential, along with basic computer skills. Relevant certifications such as COSHH Awareness, First Aid, and Fire Marshall training are desirable. Forklift or plant operation qualifications are a plus. Purple of the role Colas have an exciting opportunity for an experienced Senior Quantity Surveyor to join our Commercial Team supporting theCheshire West and Chester Highways Maintenance and Response Contract. This is a key role within the business, responsible for providing commercial leadership, supporting the contract’s financial performance, and ensuring accurate and timely commercial reporting. You will oversee and mentor a team of commercial professionals, helping to guide Quantity Surveyors, Assistant Quantity Surveyors and Commercial Assistants while ensuring that all activities comply with Colas governance, policies, and procedures.Main Responsibilities As a Senior Quantity Surveyor, you will play a central role in managing the commercial aspects of the Cheshire West and Chester contract. You’ll be responsible for ensuring accurate cost forecasting, value recovery, and the effective management of subcontract packages from procurement through to final account. You will produce clear and detailed monthly reports and provide ongoing advice to senior management to support strategic and commercial decision-making. As a Senior Quanitity Surveyor your role will include supporting the pricing of quoted works and compensation events, managing change control processes, and ensuring full compliance with the NEC4 contract mechanisms. You will maintain accurate records of work progress, proactively manage commercial risk, and contribute to the continual improvement of commercial processes and procedures. Collaboration will be key, as you’ll work closely with operational teams to support project delivery, cost control, and performance monitoring across multiple workstreams.Ideal Candidate The ideal candidate will be an experienced Senior Quantity Surveyor with a strong background in NEC4 contract administration and commercial management, ideally within highways or civil engineering projects. Holding a BSc in Quantity Surveying or a related discipline, you bring at least five years of post-qualification experience and are working towards, or already hold, professional membership (RICS, CIOB, or ICES). You have proven expertise in managing budgets, cost forecasting, subcontract packages, and producing accurate commercial reports. A natural leader and effective communicator, you are skilled at mentoring teams, solving complex problems, and building collaborative relationships. Purpose of the role Colas are responsible for the eight-year Maintenance & Response contract for National Highways Area 9. The contract covers around 2,300 miles of Strategic Road Network within Herefordshire, Worcestershire, Warwickshire, Staffordshire, and Shropshire, as well as parts of Gloucestershire, Derbyshire, and Leicestershire. We deliver cyclical maintenance, reactive maintenance, incident response, severe weather response and minor works in a region that has five strategically critical motorway interchange junctions, as well as being at the heart of the new HS2 network. Area 9 is a critical transport hub enabling customer journeys across the UK. We are currently seeking an experienced Ganger to lead multiple teams of highways maintenance operatives and ZRT teams, ensuring the safe, efficient, and compliant delivery of all maintenance, incident response, and minor works activities. Main Responsibilities As a Ganger, you will take responsibility for managing and motivating teams on-site to carry out their daily duties as instructed by supervisors and the Area Manager. You will lead shift briefings, oversee job pack collation, and ensure that all relevant documentation, including EcoOnline, Confirm, and FYLD, is accurately completed and compliant with health and safety regulations. Promoting a strong culture of safety is essential, and you will conduct toolbox talks, site audits, and support incident investigations to maintain the highest standards. You will also work closely with planners and subcontractors to ensure smooth operations, support financial performance by understanding daily costs and budget targets, and contribute to winter maintenance duties and other reasonable requests as needed. Your leadership will be instrumental in driving a high-performing, safety-focused team that reflects the professionalism and core values of Colas. Ideal Candidate The ideal candidate will hold a Highways Passport (E), CSCS Level D, SSSTS certification, and a full driving licence. You’ll have strong experience in highways maintenance, winter operations, team leadership, and a solid understanding of highways legislation and relevant software.
