Job Title: Senior UX DesignerDepartment: ProductLocation: Sheffield, Talbot Green or LondonWorking Pattern: Hybrid, includes 3 days each week in the officeContract Type: Full time, permanentSalary: Up to £65,000 per annumAt Tes we are on a mission to power schools and enable great teaching worldwide, by delivering EdTech solutions that give educators the tools to succeed. From safeguarding and compliance to staff and pupil management, our innovative and flexible software and services help teachers and school leaders worldwide to provide the best education to millions of children. With more than 13 million educators in our community, combined with our working relationships with 25,000 schools in over 100 countries, we have been making a difference for over 100 years. Role overviewWe’ll be upfront: We are in the middle of an organisational transformation. It’s a bit chaotic, and we have a gap in holistic, strategic business design. We need a Senior who doesn't just design screens but designs systems of logic. It’s a big opportunity to take the next step in your design journey and support Design leadership at a strategic level. This is a practitioner first role. While you bring the strategic oversight, you are a master of tools and lead by doing, working alongside and supporting a Global UX Team of 15 seasoned Designers and Researchers. Speaking of that Global UX Team, we love in person workshops, have regular creative design sessions in our offices, and like to keep things as fun as possible. We do everything with a smile, if you don't have fun creating it, users won't have fun using it! We back each other up and work as one big team no matter how separate our work can feel. The MissionYour goal is to bridge the gap between business goals and user needs. You will be hands-on across the entire design lifecycle - from the initial “why” to the final “how". You are responsible for producing the strategic deliverables (service maps, logic flows), alongside the design deliverables that the cross functional teams rely on.Key ResponsibilitiesMastery of CraftHands-on delivery: You will own the design output for your streams. This means getting into the weeds of Figma, creating wireframes, and building prototypes that demonstrate complex functionality.Leading by example: You’ll set the standard for what good looks like for components, auto layout, and file organisation. Helping mentor more junior team members to set a new bar for our design standards.Strategic DiscoveryLeading Discovery: You won’t just work alongside researchers; you will help define the discovery strategy. You’ll take vague business bets and turn them into validated, de-risked directions.Balancing the Scales: Partner with designers to provide the logical guardrails - ensuring complex user flows and information architecture are settled before high-fidelity design begins.Stakeholder Diplomacy: Act as a peer to Product colleagues. You’ll need to navigate fast paced delivery phases, using data and logic to keep the scope focused.Design Ops & GovernanceDefining the Manual: You won’t just follow processes; you’ll help build them. You’ll help define our global “Definition of Ready” and ensure our UK and Australia teams are aligned alongside Design Leadership.Design System Governance: Help us manage the scalability of our new design system. You’ll care about tokens, logic, and documentation as much as the components themselves.Mentorship: You will be a point of escalation for more junior members, helping them navigate their own grey areas. What kind of person will succeed?Experience: 5+ years’ experience in UX/Product Design Roles. Bonus if this is in a SaaS organisation during a large transformation period, and/or EdTech. Business-Minded: You understand KPIs and ROI. You design solutions that create outcomes, not just pixels.A do-er at heart: you get excited to solve complex logic puzzles and building the solution.High Autonomy: You tell us what needs to happen next, and we back you up.IA Proficiency: You are obsessed with Information Architecture and can map out complex, multi-state ecosystems in your sleep.Pragmatic Leader: You know when to push for a research-led pivot and when to ship a "Version 1" to maintain business momentum. Why join us now?If you want to move away from the tools and into management, enjoy rigid hierarchies, and are comfortable with predictable pixel pushing, then this probably isn’t the place for you. If you want the autonomy, strategic input, and creative flow that comes with seniority, and to be able to look back in a years’ time and say ‘I helped shaped how this company designs products’ then we should talk. We offer the chance to have massive impact during a critical stage of growth. What do you get in return? 25 days annual leave rising to 30 5% pension after probationState of the art offices Access to a range of benefits via My Benefits World Free eye care cover Life Assurance Cycle to Work Scheme EAP (Employee assistance programme) Quarterly Tes Socials Access to an extensive Learning and Development menu Who are Tes?Tes is a global Edtech leader, on a mission to empower schools and educators to deliver impactful, inspiring learning experiences worldwide. Job Title: UX DesignerDepartment: ProductLocation: Sheffield or LondonWorking Pattern: Hybrid, includes 3 days each week in the officeContract Type: Full time, permanentSalary: Up to £51,000 per annumAt Tes we are on a mission to power schools and enable great teaching worldwide, by delivering EdTech solutions that give educators the tools to succeed. Role overviewWe’ll be upfront: We are in the middle of a major organisational transformation. It’s a bit chaotic, processes are still being defined, and the "right way" to do things is often something you’ll have to help us figure out.We aren't looking for a designer who needs a perfectly polished brief to get started. We need an architect of order - someone who sees a lack of process as an invitation to build a better one, and who finds "the grey area" an exciting place to work rather than a frustrating one.The Mission:Your goal is to turn complex user insights into simple, accessible products while simultaneously helping us stabilise our design function. You will be accountable for the entire design lifecycle in a specific product area (we have a lot), and may sometimes need to move into different business areas as and when required. You’ll also be a key player in our Design Operations (DesignOps), helping us move from "organised chaos" to a high-performing design engine.Key ResponsibilitiesNavigating Discovery & DesignContinuous Discovery: Drive the design process using a "Dual-Track Agile" approach. You’ll be learning (Discovery) while building (Delivery), often in parallel and working alongside our UX Researchers.Lean Experimentation: Deconstruct large, sometimes messy ideas into lean experiments. You’ll help us learn what works as quickly and efficiently as possible.Design OpsBringing Order to Chaos: Partner with Senior UX Designers and Design Leadership to refine the "manual." You’ll help define our Definition of Ready, streamline handoffs, and fix broken workflows.Design System Stewardship: Contribute to and help govern our Design System. We need someone who cares about component architecture and documentation to help us scale.Facilitating Clarity: Lead workshops and FigJam sessions to get stakeholders on the same page when requirements feel thin.Leading Ceremonies: Support and lead design-specific syncs like Design Critiques and peer reviews to help us maintain quality as we grow.Collaboration in TransitionCross Functional Product Teams: Work closely with Product Managers and Engineers. You’ll need to involve developers early to ensure that what we’re dreaming up is actually buildable within our current constraints.Measuring What Matters: Help us move beyond "just shipping" by defining and tracking UX metrics, sometimes coming up with creative ways to do so. What kind of person will succeed in this role? Super Adaptable: You can pivot when business needs shift and maintain your cool when a project’s scope changes mid-sprint.A Self-Starter: You are a self-directed "owner." You don’t wait for permission or a perfect handoff; you proactively identify what needs to move forward and you rally the people to do it.An Expert with the Tools: You have mastery of Figma (Auto-layout, Variables, Components), are comfortable using research tools like Askable or Maze to get the data you need, and are proactively exploring new innovative ways to work in the AI space. A Pragmatic Problem Solver: You know when to fight for the "perfect" UX and when to deliver a "good enough" solution to keep the momentum going.Comfortable with Dynamic processes: You’ve ideally worked in a SaaS environment or a company undergoing a transformation. You understand that "process" is a living thing.Systems Thinker: You see the big picture. You understand how a small change in one feature affects the entire ecosystem. Why Join Us Now?If you like rigid hierarchies and predictable 9-to-5 "pixel pushing," this probably isn't the place for you. But if you want to look back a year from now and say, "I helped shape how this company designs products," then we should talk. We offer the chance to have a massive impact during a critical stage of growth. Role overviewThe AI & Innovation function is a newly formed department, being built from the ground up and tasked with driving practical AI adoption across a business serving over 25,000 schools and 13 million educators. The team is small and technically deep: the Head of AI and Innovation and three Principal Engineers, each holding ownership of a technical pillar of the department’s roadmap. What the team does not yet have is structured capacity for requirements gathering, stakeholder analysis, adoption measurement, or the baseline-and-tracking work every pillar depends on. This role exists to close that gap and turn department pain points into scoped, evidenced opportunities. You will own the measurement framework that proves whether initiatives are actually working, and to be the analytical counterweight to a team of senior engineers and AI specialists. The Business Analyst will work across every function in the business, sit inside a live three-month AI pilot from day one, and directly own the adoption-tracking and measurement pillar of the AI Hub’s own roadmap, and work with the Department Head to manage the departmental operations across all implementations and projects.Key ResponsibilitiesDiscovery, Requirements & Opportunity ManagementOwn and maintain the Pain Points & Issues Register and the Opportunity Map as living documents, updating them as new discovery and stakeholder conversations happen, not as one-off deliverablesConvert department pain points into scoped, evidenced opportunities using the department's value and feasibility frameworkWrite PRDs, user stories and acceptance criteria for AI-enabled tools and features, working directly with the Principal Engineer who owns the relevant technical pillarProvide analysis support to whichever part of the department needs it most at a given time, consistent with the department's pull-based operating modelOversee the project management environment and dashboards of the departmentMeasurement, Baselines & ROIOwn the tracking of how far each AI initiative has spread, from individual use through to genuine cross-department adoption, not just whether it existsPrototype automation frameworks with the engineering team to streamline this work and remove manual workloads wherever possibleCapture baselines before any AI initiative goes live, and measure impact against those baselines afterwardsSupport the measurement framework for the current three-month AI pilot, including consumption, adoption and outcome-based impact across the pilot cohort, and then follow-on phasesWork with the Department Head to manage project & departmental budgets and ensure metrics are live and initiatives remain commercially viable, and track ROI vs SpendCo-design the ROI and value-measurement framework with Finance and produce regular reporting for the Head of AI, the CFO and senior leadershipGovernance, Risk & Compliance SupportSupport the department's cost, impact and threat risk-tagging discipline on every initiative before it is built, not after - although we will measure estimates vs actuals after deliverySupport Data Protection Impact Assessments for AI initiatives that process personal or sensitive data, working with Legal and Information SecurityMaintain the use-case inventory and risk tiering underpinning the department's governance frameworkDocument AI processes, decisions and outcomes for audit and knowledge-management purposesStakeholder Engagement & EnablementAct as the analytical bridge between the AI function and the wider business, translating pain points into requirements and technical capability into language the business can act onSupport the training and enablement programme, including scheduling, completion tracking and maintaining training contentSupport vendor and tool evaluation, including due diligence on cost, capability and data-handling termsMaintain the department's internal knowledge assets, including the prompt library structure and the connector and systems registryWhat will you need to succeed?ExperienceHas worked as a Business Analyst, Product Analyst or similar in a technology, SaaS or data-driven environment, including having built a measurement or ROI framework rather than only inheriting oneHas written PRDs, user stories and acceptance criteria that engineers have genuinely built fromHas worked directly with senior technical staff as a genuine analytical partner, not purely a coordinatorHas operated in an environment where the roadmap was still being defined, not handed down completeKnowledgeWorking knowledge of AI and machine learning concepts, sufficient to have an informed conversation with engineers about what a given capability can and cannot realistically doFamiliarity with data protection principles, including UK GDPR and Data Protection Impact Assessments, sufficient to recognise when a proposed initiative needs a formal compliance checkComfortable working with data from multiple systems, including CRM, support, product usage and financial data, to identify patterns and prioritiseAwareness of agile and product ways of working, including backlog management and stage-gated deliverySkillsStrong structured-thinking and synthesis skills, able to turn a room of stakeholders describing loosely related problems into a small number of clearly scoped opportunitiesConfident, clear written and verbal communication, comfortable presenting to senior leadership including the CFOComfortable with genuine ambiguity in a small, fast-moving team, rather than a settled process to followProficient with data analysis and visualisation tools such as Excel, Looker or Power BI, plus a working ability to use AI tools themselves, for example Claude for spreadsheets and drafting, as part of daily practiceQualificationsDegree-level education or equivalent demonstrable experience; We need a Senior who doesn't just run studies but helps shape organisational understanding.
