The post holder will have the requisite knowledge and skills to work independently with a range of medical gas/vacuum equipment and also on complex & non-complex electrical medical equipment including repairs of such equipment & varied medical gas appliances.
They will have the knowledge to differentiate between technical and clinical problems and have the autonomy to deal with issues within the remit of the post but refers more complex problems to suitably qualified colleagues. Together with the main technician responsible for calibration will plan and organize the calibration of relevant test equipment used on complex and non – complex medical test equipment plus gas test measurement appliances.
Expected to carry out his/her duties within the workshop environment and in more clinical environments i.e. Wards, Theatres, and Critical Care etc. The post holder will be expected to train end users in the use of medical gas and suction equipment and some complex and non - complex electro-medical devices. Based at Morriston Hospital, where the major part of the duties will be delivered, but will be expected to work in other parts of the Health Board as required Main duties of the job Management
• To plan and organize Planned Preventative Maintenance activity on a wide range of complex and non – complex medical equipment plus also associated medical gas equipment
• Carrying out servicing and repairs of more complex medical equipment such as Defibs, Multi-Parameter Monitoring Equipment, Endoscopic Equipment – Diathermy etc, Volumetric and Syringe pump configuration and help with end-user training on a number of more complex med equipment groups.
• Carry out Planned Preventative Maintenance PPM responsibilities on a wide range of complex and non- complex medical equipment listed above.
• Stock management and reordering of stock associated with their allocated complex and general medical equipment
• Provide senior MEMS management with advice on the upgrading and replacement of all medical gas equipment plus general electrical medical equipment within the remit of the post
• Responsible for data entry and accuracy for all records for technical servicing, repair, commissioning, calibration and disposal on a defined group of complex and non – complex electro medical equipment

• Provide a maintenance service for medical gas/suction and complex & non – complex electro-medical equipment primarily within Morriston Hospital, but also associated sites and premises when required.
• Take specific technical responsibility for performing calibration and maintenance checks of medical gas/vacuum equipment, complex and non-complex electro-medical equipment.
• Diagnose faults with the aid of service manuals, diagrams and specialist tools to effect repairs to component level on medical gas/vacuum equipment, complex and non-complex electro-medical equipment and systems.
• Perform electrical safety test on a wide range of electro-medical devices. Decommission equipment in accordance with Health Board requirements
• Ensure that service procedures and maintenance records are accurately followed and maintained.
• Perform commissioning and acceptance tests on newly purchased and loan equipment.
Assist in the updating and archiving of medical equipment records.
• Responsible for the ordering and receipting of parts and accessories, and for stock control of spares, as required.
• Responsible for planning his/her own work and prioritising non-routine breakdown requests for dealing with emergencies arising with medical gas/suction, complex and non-complex electro-medical equipment.
• Responsible for data entry and accuracy of computerised records for technical servicing of medical equipment.
• Develop working relationships with equipment suppliers and manufacturers. Co-ordinate equipment to and from suppliers.
• Work within the Health Board and make any decisions within the scope of their competence.
• Assist the manager of the MEMS Quality System in the development and implementation of new policies and procedures.
• Provide assistance to senior staff in the planning of service developments within MEMS.
• Provide assistance with the development of changes in any Health Board wide procedures that will have a specific impact particularly in their own area of responsibility, but also generally within MEMS.
• Provide assistance with the development of changes to Health and Safety Policies that will have an impact particularly in their own area of responsibility but also generally within MEMS.
• Contact with substances covered by COSHH regulations and will be required to observe all necessary precautions.
