Cardiff International Study Centre (ISC) is a new and exciting development, launched in September 2020. You would be working in a culture of enhancing learning, teaching and assessment through a developmental approach, which for you will mean autonomy, innovation, and development opportunities.
You will teach on International Foundation Year (level 3) and International Year One (level 4) programmes focusing on the Engineering and Physical Science pathways. You will play a key role by contributing to the development of teaching materials and formative assessment. You will empower students to reach the level they need to progress into university by providing student-centred, engaging, and innovative learning. You’ll undertake marking and feedback on formative and summative assessments.
We are especially interested to hear from applicants with experience in teaching Civil Engineering and/or Electrical and Electronic Engineering.
ABOUT THE ROLEContribute to the delivery and development of modules and teaching sessions offered by the Cardiff ISCPrepare and deliver teaching sessions, with a maximum teaching load of up to 25 hours per week. The specific number of taught hours is subject to operational needs and will be discussed with successful candidatesPrepare module tests and other forms of formative and summative assessmentsMark students’ formative and summative assessments submissions and provide timely feedback to students on their performance, including writing regular student reports and tutorialsDevelop and update course material for modules and teaching sessions, including module material for the Virtual Learning Environment (VLE)Work with the Centre’s Student Experience team in the delivery of induction, orientation and registration programmes.Notify and liaise with colleagues where necessary to ensure all students receive appropriate on-going welfare and progression supportSupport with the coordination of and delivery of labsImplement quality assurance procedures at module and teaching session level and contribute to the annual monitoring and review of coursesMaintain accurate and up-to-date records of student attendance and performanceAttend and contribute to standardisation, moderation and other quality assurance meetingsParticipating in regular meetings with teaching and support staff contributing to the effective overall management of the programme and student life cycleMaintain and submit accurate and timely records of teaching and other activitiesParticipate in regular training and development activities and maintain a log of these activitiesCarry out any other duties as required from time to time by centre managers
ABOUT YOU A Bachelor’s degreeA Master’s in Engineering, Physics or a related disciplineTeaching qualificationExperience of teaching in UK higher, further education or sixth formExperience of working with international studentsAbility to develop and update teaching material and preferably experience of working within a Virtual Learning EnvironmentCompetence in teaching and administrative IT skills (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, e-mail, etc.)A student-centred and client-focused approachA commitment to continuous professional developmentStrong record-keeping skillsFlexibility and willingness to work under pressure to deadlinesEnthusiasm and motivation to be a performance-driven team player.
