    The Trust wishes to appoint supervisory assistants to join our large lunchtime team at Abbey Hill Academy and Abbey Hill Sixth Form.

    The posts are situated at Abbey Hill Academy, which serves the needs of students with moderate and severe learning difficulties and autism and has in excess of 350 students aged 11-19 located across three buildings.

    This role includes supervising children in the dining halls and other indoor and outdoor areas across the whole site. Supervisory assistants are also expected to support students giving attention to their physical/hygiene needs as well as their lunchtime requirements.

    Abbey Hill Academy & Abbey Hill Academy 6th Form is “where amazing children do amazing things!” We specialise in meeting the needs of students aged 11 to 19 who have a full range of learning disabilities. The academy provides for approximately 360 young people aged 11 to 19 years who have learning difficulties, as well as other physical and special needs and autism. 

    The Trust wishes to appoint Care Assistants to join our large support team at Abbey Hill Academy.

    The role will involve working with students with profound and multiple learning difficulties and complex additional needs under the guidance of classroom teachers and learning support staff within an agreed system of supervision to implement programs of personal hygiene and care.

    The successful applicant will be required to work with individual students in and out of the classroom giving personal and practical assistance ensuring a caring and safe environment.

    Duties will include:
    Supporting students with their personal care and hygiene specifically in relation to practical support for Personal hygiene Toileting and changing Dressing  Assisting in the delivery of feeding programs.  Providing practical assistance in relation to other identified physical needs: Transporting to and from classrooms Moving students in and out wheelchairs, standing frames etc. using the appropriate equipment Using hoists and moving equipment when necessary  Providing personal assistance to students in physical/practical activities e.g. P.E, rebound, cookery, lunchtime activities, school outings.  Ensuring all items involved in personal care of students are appropriately cleaned and stored.  Supporting and supervising students during the break and lunchtime periods  Working with the teacher to establish an appropriate learning environment  Supporting students with sensory learning activities/programs as directed by the classroom teacher  Experience of supporting children or adults within a care or school setting and experience of working with children or adults who have special educational needs and/or physical disabilities is essential.     About the job:
    No two days are the same, so we are looking for Teachers who can work at pace to turn ‘can’t do’ into ‘want to’ and are motivated by working with young people with complex needs. You will be confident in your belief that every child can achieve and reach their potential. The ideal candidates will enjoy working with children in a calm and engaging demeanour, whilst being resilient and using innovative styles of teaching.

    We want to hear from people with drive and a willingness to go the ‘extra mile’ to improve the lives of the young people in our care. Whilst previous experience of working in a SEN environment would be desirable, excellent teaching skills and the right motivation, personal qualities and levels of resilience are just as important.

    What will I be doing? Establishing and maintaining good working relationships in order to promote the development and effective delivery of the school curriculum to maximise our young people’s achievement. Teaching students according to their educational needs and acknowledging that every lesson counts. Creating a well-ordered and secure environment that will ensure the educational well-being of individual children within the group. Support students in a positive manner, through an attachment friendly ethos that fosters warmth as well as sets high boundaries so that all can achieve their potential; following agreed and consistent strategies alongside school in-house professionals and therapeutic colleagues. Ensuring careful and ongoing assessment of the students learning to inform further planning and next steps. Ensuring that tasks and activities are matched to the ability of the student - allowing them to make progress at the right pace and level. Working with school leaders to complete and teach individual pupil plans where students have specific needs. Liaising effectively with parents and a wide range of professionals. Leading a class team of enthusiastic and hardworking teaching assistants. Working with key professionals to deliver a well-rounded curriculum, which supports the students’ ability to learn, self-regulate, develop students’ social skills and supports their mental health.
    What do I need? Must have appropriate teaching Qualification (QTS or QTLS) Knowledge of the EYFS curriculum, delivery of phonics and strategies associated with experiential learning Have some knowledge of severe learning difficulties Be resilient, supportive and sensitive towards the needs of students with Special Educational Needs. Be an outstanding practitioner Understanding of the curriculum in order for successful planning and delivery The ability to manage challenging behaviour effectively A strong commitment to the welfare and safeguarding of students

    We will provide you with a structured training program and support where needed to gain your required Level 3 Diploma in in Residential Childcare.
