    About the role

    In this role within Engine's Product & Technology function, you'll run one or more subdomains in the Cards area, ensuring successful product development throughout, as well as having oversight and involvement in the creation of new cards features. You'll also work closely with the wider cards product team, including contributing to the broader cards roadmap. You'll have touch points with our existing and future clients to ensure we support them effectively.

    You'll enjoy problem solving, getting to the detail, and understanding how clients can make the best use of our product, whilst designing ways to improve it. Your work will span product strategy, client-facing requirements gathering & solution design, and product ownership in an Engineering context.

    What you'll get to do Take ownership of a best-in-class card product by scoping out breakthrough features, and owning the end-to-end delivery of your sub-domain(s) in close alignment with the Product and Engineering domain leaders. Contribute to the overall card roadmap with inputs from your subdomain(s) You'll work cross-functionally with engineers, designers, document writers, and QA to drive the design and delivery of improvements to the product that align with the vision of the business, taking into account existing and potential clients. You'll confidently and independently prioritise incoming tasks and clearly communicate 'the what' and 'the why' of each decision to both internal and external stakeholders. You'll manage deadlines and be responsible for proactively raising delivery risks that may impact our client projects. You'll develop a close relationship with our Delivery and Customer Success teams, taking the lead on assessing feature requests and client requirements as a key input into overall feature and roadmap definition. You'll work closely with our Business Development team by helping the team understand Engine's capabilities in your domain and joining early-stage Sales conversations as an SME. You will be responsible for being the champion of the feature, telling different teams and clients about the product, and adapting your style of communication and materials to different stakeholders Hear more from the team in some case studies, below, and our work with Women In Tech . Product in Practice Requirements

    Your background 2+ years of direct Product manager/owner experience, ideally in FinTech or with a regulated lender You have owned and delivered new features, projects or products from start to finish and have gathered clear learnings on what went well and what didn't. You've then ensured the successful in-life maintenance of the feature (or project) going forward. Strong preference that you have experience in card payments: Visa/Mastercard, card payment regulatory compliance, 3DS, mobile wallets, card processing. Experience working across different regions and jurisdictions is a plus You are comfortable leading multiple workstreams on the go as well as presenting existing and new capabilities internally and externally to clients. You have experience working directly with APIs. You have a keen eye for mobile UX and a good understanding of market trends in the cards world. You have experience of rapidly understanding problems and presenting solutions in a structured and informative manner that facilitates decision making. Your skills You're able to manage competing priorities, whilst keeping sight of the big picture and driving towards an end goal. You are intellectually and technically curious and enjoy learning what things do and how they work. You have a knack for understanding technical concepts and enjoy getting into the details with engineering and design. You have good communication skills that will be required to work with both internal and external stakeholders. You're comfortable handling ambiguity and working in a flat structure.     As a Cloud Security Engineer at Starling, you'll be building and supporting tooling and infrastructure that spans across AWS and GCP supporting our internal operations and interfacing with other teams to deliver the services that support our business.

    Requirements

    We are seeking an experienced Cloud Security Engineer who believes that great security is built, not just configured. At Starling, security is a fundamental engineering pillar, and we're looking for a practitioner who thinks like a developer.

    While we are looking for deep cloud expertise, we are also highly interested in candidates with strong programming skills and a background in software engineering who want to apply those talents to security. This is a hands-on role for a builder who excels at writing clean, scalable code to automate away manual gates. You will work across AWS and GCP, developing the internal tools, guardrails, and services that empower our engineering teams to ship securely without sacrificing speed.

    Key Responsibilities Engineer Secure Foundations: You will lead the design and implementation of critical security services, with a heavy focus on building robust Identity and Access Management (IAM) systems and automated, API-driven certificate management workflows. Security-as-Code & Scalability: Leveraging a software-first philosophy, you will develop and maintain high-quality, scalable security tooling and middleware within ECS and Kubernetes environments, ensuring security logic is integrated directly into the deployment pipeline. Collaborative Code Ownership: You will serve as a technical authority in cross-functional code reviews, acting as an engineering peer who helps teams bake security into their services from the first line of code to the final pull request. Proactive System Hardening: You will stay ahead of the evolving threat landscape by treating security as a continuous engineering challenge-proactively identifying vulnerabilities and architecting technical solutions to fortify our global ecosystem. Professional Requirements Demonstrated ability to architect secure, distributed systems with a focus on programmatic IAM and automated, API-driven PKI management. Extensive experience with Infrastructure as Code (IaC) in Terraform and a deep commitment to writing clean, maintainable, and production-grade code-ideally in Golang. A test-first mentality toward security, with experience building unit and integration tests into CI/CD pipelines to ensure that security guardrails are as reliable as the features they protect. A strong conceptual grasp of cryptographic primitives and hands-on experience securing containerized workloads and service meshes within ECS and Kubernetes. A track record of taking end-to-end ownership of complex technical projects, from initial design docs and RFCs through to deployment and observability.     About the Role

    We are looking for an experienced Penetration Tester who can bridge the gap between deep technical exploitation and real-world business risk. This isn't just about running scanners and handing over a PDF; it's about adversarial empathy, understanding how our systems and services work so you can show us how they may be compromised.

    While you will sit within the Information Security team, you won't be siloed; you will be "dropped in" to test across various business domains, working side-by-side with Infrastructure Engineers and Software Developers and in collaboration with all parts of the Information Security Team. Your approach is to move beyond finding 'bugs' to helping out teams build inherently resilient systems.

    As an early member of our internal Pentesting capability, you won't just follow a manual, you will help write it. A key aspect of this role involves: Collaborating with your peers to design a continuous testing framework that evolves with our tech stack. Sharing knowledge with the wider technical faculty to elevate our collective security posture. Additionally, we understand the importance of knowledge and expertise remaining current and you shall support the continued advancement of our penetration testing through research, design and implementation of new solutions, including automation.

    Responsibilities: End-to-End Assessments: Conducting penetration tests on our core banking platform, focusing on Cloud and Application Security. Code Review: Performing manual secure code reviews to identify logic flaws and security anti-patterns. Threat Modelling: Participate in sessions with different teams to identify design flaws before code is written. Risk Contextualisation: Contextualising technical vulnerabilities into "Real-World Risk" scenarios to demonstrate business impact to non-technical executives and within Engine's risk management framework. Cloud Security: Collaborating with Infrastructure teams to audit and secure cloud configurations. Autonomous Execution: Acting as an independent operator within the team, managing your own testing scope and timelines across different business domains. Remediation: Providing clear, actionable remediation advice that balances security requirements with engineering velocity. Strategic Reporting: Translate complex technical exploits into actionable business risk summaries for non-technical stakeholders and executive leadership. Requirements

    We're open-minded when it comes to hiring and we care more about aptitude and attitude than specific experience or qualifications.

    Technical Skills

    Ideally, we would like: Experience: 5+ years experience in penetration testing with a focus on cloud native infrastructure, web applications, APIs. Tooling: Expert-level proficiency with industry-standard tools and the ability to "go manual" when scanners fail. Cloud Native: Experience with Cloud Security, (AWS/GCP) specifically AWS/EKS. Code Fluency: Ability to conduct code reviews in multiple languages, primarily Java and Go. Mobile: Experience testing Mobile Applications (iOS and Android). Design Review: Proven experience in Threat Modelling. SDLC: You have a working understanding of how software is architected, built and deployed. Scripting: You have the ability to write your own scripts and tooling to aid in pentesting and improve efficiency. Golang, Python etc. Soft Skills Communication: Exceptional written and spoken communication skills: the ability to communicate complex technical issues to engineers and business risk to executives. Proactivity: A self-starting nature. You don't wait for a ticket to find a vulnerability. Got downtime? You're digging into codebases, closing off retesting items and generally getting it done. Independence: Ability to work independently while remaining a collaborative partner to the wider engineering team. Adaptability: Engine is evolving. You are able to evolve and develop as our requirements shift over time. Certifications: Relevant industry certifications (OSCP, OSWE, CCT-APP, CCT-INF etc.) or relevant demonstrable experience.     The Opportunity

    The Financial Assistance (Collections) Associate's primary purpose is to support customers and businesses approaching or experiencing financial difficulty by managing multi-channel communications. You will use your judgment to explore individual circumstances and account data, paying particular attention to customers demonstrating signs of vulnerability. By identifying tailored support and signposting where necessary, you will create solutions that deliver positive outcomes for both the customer and Starling.

    About the Role

    As an experienced Penetration Tester you will be working with talented cyber security professionals to protect Starling customers, company assets and systems using the latest technologies and techniques.

    The primary objective for this role is to collaborate with, support, and guide Starling's engineering and operation functions to ensure our services are designed, developed and operated securely. As an experienced member of our penetration testing team you will directly interact with multiple areas of the business to understand requirements, define the scope and approach to testing (including undertaking appropriate research), and produce reporting information aligned to our risk framework.

    In addition, we understand the importance of knowledge and expertise remaining current and you shall support the continued advancement of our penetration testing through research, design and implementation of new solutions, including automation.

    Responsibilities Scoping and performing mobile, web application, cloud, and infrastructure penetration tests. Automation of security testing, and development of internal tooling, to achieve continuous assurance. Collaboration with engineering teams to facilitate secure development, including: Review and analysis of proposed technical solutions to identify appropriate security controls. Input and guidance to security related technical architecture and design decisions. Code review of features and critical security components. Practical security testing. Advising on remediation of security issues and processes to address root causes. Security assurance reviews of third-party solutions. Identifying and implementing improvements to the team's internal processes and procedures. Review, analysis and reporting of external threats relevant to Starling systems and solutions, in the context of Starling's desired security posture. Requirements

    We're open-minded when it comes to hiring and we care more about aptitude and attitude than specific experience or qualifications.

    Ideally, we would like: 5+ years technical information security experience. Experience of mobile, web application, cloud and infrastructure penetration testing. Strong technical knowledge in: Mobile security (iOS and Android) Web application security Networking and associated protocols Cloud security (AWS and GCP) Containers and Kubernetes A desire to learn, and ability to apply technical security knowledge to new and unfamiliar areas. CREST, OSCP or similar industry penetration testing qualification A good understanding of applied cryptographic techniques. Reverse engineering and exploit development capabilities. Experience of security testing in an agile SDLC. Threat modelling experience. Experience performing code reviews, particularly in Java and Go. Experience of fulfilling a client facing security consulting role. Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
