    About the roleAs a Communications Officer, you’ll be at the heart of our mission to improve lives across South Yorkshire. You’ll work closely with senior leaders, partners, and colleagues to plan and deliver impactful communications that support our strategic priorities and enhance our reputation. From crafting compelling content and managing digital channels, to supporting high-profile campaigns and events, you’ll bring energy, creativity and clarity to everything you do. You’ll also play a vital role in internal communications, helping to keep our teams informed, engaged and aligned with our values. What you’ll be doing Delivering engaging communications across digital, internal, and stakeholder channels. Supporting campaigns that promote key projects and initiatives across the region. Writing and editing content for press releases, social media, websites, newsletters, and more. Coordinating events, launches, and internal engagement activities. Monitoring and evaluating communications impact and audience engagement.
    About youWe’re looking for someone who: Has a degree or equivalent experience in PR, journalism, media, or a related field. Brings experience from a fast-paced communications, media, or political environment. Is confident creating content across multiple platforms and channels. Has excellent writing, editing, and storytelling skills. Understands the importance of inclusive, audience-focused communication. Can juggle multiple priorities and work to tight deadlines with confidence and creativity. Experience in internal communications, stakeholder engagement or digital content is especially welcome.

    About the roleAs a newly designed Mayoral Strategic Authority, SYMCA will receive a multi-year Integrated Settlement from April 2026, which will result in multiple funding streams being subsumed into a single pot and greater financial flexibility. There is a complex programme of work underway to prepare the Authority for the transition to this new way of working, and we are seeking an individual who will take responsibility for the finance workstream and support colleagues across the organisation. Other projects on which this individual may be expected to take the lead finance role are the integration with South Yorkshire Fire & Rescue Authority (subject to the English Devolution & Community Empowerment Bill passing into law), and also a programme of continuous improvement reviewing systems, processes and procedures in the Finance team.
    Key responsibilities include: Act as the senior financial advisor for designated service areas, ensuring statutory responsibilities are met. Provide comprehensive financial support to Directors and senior stakeholders, influencing decisions and driving performance improvements. Lead the development of financial strategies, controls, and reporting processes. Support annual budgeting and medium-term financial planning aligned with organisational objectives. Deliver accurate and timely management accounts, Board reports, and financial modelling for business cases. Manage financial risk and ensure compliance with legislation and reporting standards.     We’re looking for someone who brings: Fully qualified CCAB accountant (or equivalent) with ongoing CPD. Proven experience in senior finance roles, ideally within local government or a complex organisation. Strong knowledge of financial legislation, reporting standards, and risk management. Expertise in business partnering, budgeting, and financial planning. Excellent communication, influencing, and analytical skills.     This is a pivotal role with indirect accountability for a budget exceeding £30 million, spanning both statutory and discretionary programmes.     About the roleThis role offers the opportunity to work at the heart of strategic decision-making, using data and analysis to shape the future of concessionary travel in South Yorkshire. You’ll be trusted to lead complex modelling and forecasting work, ensuring financial integrity and maximising public value.

    Key responsibilities include: Lead the design and implementation of advanced analytical and forecasting models to support strategic planning and commercial negotiations. Own the financial forecasting and budget modelling process for concessionary travel schemes, ensuring robust management of a £30+ million budget. Conduct scenario planning, risk modelling, and impact assessments to inform policy development and commercial initiatives. Deliver high-impact reporting and strategic insight to senior leaders and external stakeholders. Analyse multi-source data to identify trends in market share, ticketing products, and customer behaviour. Ensure data integrity and statutory compliance, challenging anomalies and protecting public funds. Develop data-driven dashboards and reports that shape strategic and commercial outcomes. Act as the primary liaison for external stakeholders, representing SYMCA in cross-authority and government forums. Support public-facing elements of the Concessionary Travel Scheme, including the application of the DfT calculator.
    About youWe’re looking for a confident and capable analyst who can turn complex data into clear, actionable insight.     About the roleAs our Director of Public Transport Operations you will: Lead the directorate and be responsible for the delivery of public transport operations across South Yorkshire (NB this includes overseeing the tendered services and transport integration but does not directly include managing drivers). Develop, seek support for and implement multi-year plans to improve the customer experience and the evolving needs of the public transport network in South Yorkshire, enabling over 65 million bus journeys, 8 million tram journeys and 5 million rail journeys per year. Deliver customer-focused services which make use of new technologies and enable the effective use of the region’s public transport network, connecting people to places, jobs, education and social opportunities to drive economic benefit. Ensure that all services are delivered safely and ensure that we comply with statutory and discretionary obligations on concessionary travel for 500,000 people in South Yorkshire, undertaking around 29 million trips per year; Working closely with key stakeholders across the public transport network including commercial operators in bus, light and heavy rail and community transport, and Local Authority partners to ensure SYMCA plans are aligned to the commercial market.  (This is a hybrid role with a minimum of 3 days per week in the office)
