SLaM employ around 5000 staff and serve a local population of 1.1 million people. We have more than 230 services including inpatient wards, outpatient and community services. Currently, provide inpatient care for approximately 5,300 people each year and treat more than 45,000 patients in the community in Croydon, Lambeth, Lewisham and Southwark; as well as substance misuse services for residents of Bexley, Bromley and Greenwich. Detailed job description and main responsibilities The post holder will be assigned a primary hospital base at one of these participating sites: Princess Royal University Hospital Bromley Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Woolwich Candidates should express their site preferences on application and during interview; while these will be considered, final placements will be determined based on service capacity and needs. In line with the team’s growth, and there is an expectation that some work will be carried out across the area, as service needs dictate. It offers a unique opportunity to join an established and dynamic team of 5 Consultant Psychiatrists in Croydon CAMHS, within South London and Maudsley NHS Foundation Trust. The post holder will be based within the Croydon CAMHS Treatment Team, which focuses on the provision of specific evidence based interventions including CBT, family therapy, IPT and medical interventions such as antidepressants and stimulant medications.. The post will also include providing sessions to ARC (ADHD Medication Review Clinic). There are five consultant child and adolescent psychiatrists in Croydon CAMHS (a total of 3.8 WTE). We have specialist interests in neurodevelopmental disorders, ADHD, Learning Disabilities and Crisis Care. The successful applicant will also join the SLaM consultant CAMHS on-call rota (see On-call Section). Main duties of the job This post includes 7.5 PAs of direct clinical activity with the Croydon CAMHS Treatment Teamwith 2.5PAs of structured professional activities, during which the post holder will contribute to service development, clinical governance and quality improvement, in addition to completing continuous professional development and pursuing other professional activities.  Interventions are offered with a multi-disciplinary team approach drawing on a number of specialist therapeutic approaches including psychiatry, psychology, nursing, family therapy and varying psychotherapy models – such as CBT, psychotherapy, creative therapies and family therapy. The pots holder will support service innovations, quality improvements and clinical research, education in perinatal psychiatry within SLaM, sharing strong clinical leadership within the team. This is an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic and committed consultant psychiatrist to work in a leading national Mother and Baby Unit, providing flexible clinical leadership and consultant responsibility and working closely with other members of the multidisciplinary team including an existing consultant. The post holder will provide clinical work specifically in the Mother and Baby Unit in the South London and Maudsley NHS Foundation Trust (SLaM). Main duties of the job This is an exciting new Consultant post with the Channi Kumar Mother and Baby Unit, at the Bethlem Royal Hospital. The post is to work alongside another consultant. The caseload and clinical responsibility will be split equally between the two consultant psychiatrists. The consultant psychiatrist has the overall responsibility, to lead the overall care of the patient and their baby and family, integrating biological, psychological and social aspects of assessment, investigations and treatment. The post holder will work alongside the multidisciplinary team. The MBU provides both local and national services to mothers who have a range of psychiatric disorder, diagnosed during pregnancy, or the postpartum period, up to the infant being approximately one year old. The community psychiatrists also see some women are seen for preconception advice, when they have past history of moderate to severe mental illness and want to conceive and require possible advice on their risk of relapse, their care, their medication plan and the potential impact on the developing foetus. Women in the community perinatal teams are screened in the antenatal period in the maternity hospitals and those with a moderate to severe mental illness are assessed, and treated throughout pregnancy and the post-natal period. Assess and integrate issues surrounding social support, voluntary work and employment into therapy. To provide highly specialist assessment and clinical formulation to clients with complex mental health needs, including personality disorders, addiction and trauma. To provide psychological reports, including relevant formulation, opinion and interventions, in order to inform referrers and, where appropriate, service users. To select and deliver highly specialist evidence based psychological treatments, monitoring outcomes and modifying and adapting interventions, drawing on a range of theoretical models. To collect and enter clinical outcome data on a sessional basis; select and interpret outcome measures to inform treatment planning To work as an autonomous professional within BPS/BABCP/HCPC guidelines and the policies and procedures of the service, taking full responsibility for own work including treatment and discharge decisions. To travel to community settings as appropriate and across the Trust when required. To refer people with more severe common mental health problems to the secondary care psychological therapies service Work closely with other members of the TT team to ensure that patients referred on to the TT service have a clear referral pathway. Maintain a clinical caseload in line with activity targets agreed with line manager. 5) TEACHING, TRAINING AND SUPERVISION: To receive regular clinical and professional supervision from a more senior psychologist/psychotherpist according to BABCP/BPS/HCPC and Trust guidelines. To contribute to the development of the knowledge and skills base within Lewisham TT by maintaining an active awareness of current developments in psychology, CBT, IAPT and by implementing knowledge gained in practice. To provide professional managerial, and clinical supervision to HI CBT therapists, Psychological Wellbeing Practitioners, trainees, assistant psychologist and other junior staff members for all aspects of their work. This must include live supervision of therapist’s work. To deliver and promote outcome-focussed supervision, directly to supervised staff, and through participation in the S2 and S3 supervisors groups To provide service level risk management, taking part in the on-call risk rota, and developing and recording risk management plans To provide specialist training to other professions as appropriate. To plan and undertake teaching and training of pre and post- qualification psychologists and specialised training to other professions as appropriate. To provide supervision for the psychological work of other multi-disciplinary staff as appropriate. 6) RESEARCH and SERVICE DEVELOPMENT: Assist in the development and maintenance of a strong research culture that values the use of outcome measures as a way of improving clinical practice. Encourage the critical evaluation of practice, and undertake research Use theory and literature to support evidence-based practice in clinical work, supervision, teaching and consultations Communicate and disseminate research and service evaluation information so that clinical practice is appropriately informed To contribute to the development of services through initiating, undertaking and supervising service evaluation and audit. To disseminate research and service evaluation findings through presentations and published articles. 7) PROFESSIONAL: Work as an autonomous professional and maintain standards of practice adhering to HPC or BABCP guidelines and the policies and procedures of the service, taking responsibility for own work including treatment and discharge decisions. To ensure Continuing Professional Development in line with BPS/BABCP/UKCP and Trust Personal Development Plan requirements. Be aware of advances in CBT, other psychological therapies and the TT programme. Work in accordance with the principles of CBT and within the parameters of good practice, in accordance with the policies and procedures of the Clinical Governance Framework. 8) GENERAL: To participate in business and professional meetings within the TT service and Lewisham Directorate. To travel to the GP practices, service meetings and other meetings as appropriate. To regularly work one evening and do Saturday work (on occasion) as required Person specification Education and Qualifications Essential criteria Doctoral level qualification in clinical or counselling psychology (and HCPC registration) and having completed an IAPT HI CBT course, OR, High intensity (HI) therapist, having completed an IAPT CBT course BABCP practitioner full accreditation or provisional accreditation Desirable criteria Attended CBT supervisor course Clinical Experience Essential criteria Experience of working within an IAPT service, as a qualified HI Experience of supervising high intensity therapists/CBT therapists/PWPs An understanding of the relationship between primary and secondary care services.
