We have a great opportunity for a dedicated Commercial Manager to join our Building & Real Estate Division and wear the SOCOTEC badge with pride.We are seeking a proactive and detail-oriented professional to drive the commercial strategy of the business, ensuring profitability, sustainability and growth. This role plays a critical part in coordinating business development, bid management, contract negotiations, client relationship management and financial planning to maximise revenue and margin. This person will unify the approach to multi-disciplinary and framework bids, lead the bidding process and ensure a good quality and compliant submission. The tasks you will undertake will include (but are not limited to): Develop and implement commercial strategies in line with company goals and objectivesIdentify market opportunities and lead initiatives to secure new businessManage bids and tenders from inception to completion, collating technical input from the team and completing the non-technical sections of proposalsOversee the preparation and negotiation of contracts, ensuring compliance and risk managementMonitor and analyse performance metrics to inform commercial decisionsBuild and maintain strong relationships with clients, partners, and stakeholdersCollaborate with cross-functional teams including finance, sales, marketing, and operationsSupport preparation of budgets, forecasts, and reports to support strategic planning and decision-makingEnsure projects and sales align with profitability targets and company standardsMonitor industry trends and competitor activity to stay ahead of market developmentsWork with the marketing team to utilise advertising vehicles and improve the Engineering Team section of the websiteBe aware of the team’s workload and assessing the correct resource to available to deliverTo be successful in this role, you will be able to demonstrate: Qualifications & Experience: Bachelor’s degree in engineering preferred Construction-related experience required (including consultancy, engineering, QS, bids, project management, commercial) Proven experience (typically 3+ years) in a commercial sales or financial role Strong understanding of financial principles, budgeting and contract law Technical Skills: Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) Experience with business management software (e.g. CRM, ERP)Core Competencies: Excellent negotiation, leadership and communication skills Strong presentation skills Analytical mindset with strong problem-solving skills Good comprehension skills Excellent time management and multitasking abilities Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment Proactive and solutions-focused mindset About Structural EngineeringOur Team specialises in analysing, designing and ensuring the safety and stability of structures such as buildings, bridges, dams, and towers. Our main responsibility is to ensure that these structures can withstand various forces and weather conditions over their intended life span. In addition to Structural Engineering, our Building & Real Estate Division provides many other important services including Fire Engineering, Sustainability, and Building Control services.
