Recent graduates with relevant training are welcome to applyBasic understanding or experience with hydrographic acquisition and processing software such as QPS QINSy, Qimera, Hypack, EIVA NaviSuite, or SonarWizExposure to or working knowledge of data acquisition and processing for multibeam and singlebeam bathymetry. Experience with side-scan sonar, magnetometers, or LiDAR is an advantageBasic skills in CAD and/or GIS software (e.g., AutoCAD, QGIS, ArcGIS)Some practical industry experience (e.g., through work placement, internships, or previous roles) in hydrographic or geophysical surveyingEnthusiastic with a willingness to learn new techniques and take initiative in field and office tasksFull UK driving licence is essentialWilling and able to travel and stay away from home for site work, sometimes at short noticeComfortable working aboard survey vessels.     We are seeking a proactive, reliable, and flexible Building Inspector to join the Building Control team. In this role, you will be inspecting construction sites at various stages, advising on regulatory requirements, and working collaboratively with architects, builders and developers to ensure safe, structurally sound, and code-compliant buildings. The tasks you will undertake will include (but are not limited to):
    • Conduct comprehensive site inspections and regulatory assessments – Perform building inspections at various construction stages to ensure compliance with Building Regulations, review structural, architectural, and mechanical designs, assess building materials, construction specifications, and fire strategies against relevant Building Regulations and allied legislation
    • Supervise inspection activities and enforce regulatory compliance – Act as a Registered Building Inspector within your competency and registered class, supervise lower-class RBIs and graduate trainees, interpret and enforce national and local building regulations (including fire safety, energy efficiency, accessibility, and environmental requirements), and issue formal notices on compliance breaches under the Building Safety Act 2022
    • Prepare detailed compliance documentation and provide consultancy services – Produce comprehensive inspection reports, compliance certificates, and regulatory approval documentation, maintain accurate records ensuring traceability and compliance with local authority requirements, and assist clients with Building Regulations consultancy advice where SOCOTEC is not acting as the Registered Building Control Approver
    Qualifications

    To be a successful  Building Inspector, you should be able to demonstrate:
    • Professional qualification and regulatory registration at senior level – Hold membership of RICS, CABE or equivalent (or be qualified by suitable experience), ensure CPD requirements are met to broaden and develop skills, and demonstrate compliance through registration as an RBI at an appropriate level (3G/3H)
    • Excellent communication and client relationship management skills – Demonstrate strong interpersonal and relationship-building abilities to work effectively with clients and deliver excellent client care across all interactions and project engagements
    • Self-starting problem-solver with technical expertise – Show ability to work independently as well as part of large project teams, analyse complex issues, develop suitable solutions, implement these solutions effectively, and keep up to date with changes in building codes, regulations, and industry best practices

    •    Supporting investigative utility surveys and completing basic site paperwork
    •    Working alongside surveyors, contractors, suppliers, and clients
    •    Helping to collate data for utility survey reports
    •    Carrying out basic quality checks and assisting in passing data to CAD teams
    •    Learning to review survey drawings before client issue
    •    Receiving on-the-job training and mentoring from experienced surveyors
    •    Supporting Project Managers and internal teams where required
    Qualifications

    To be successful in this role, you will be able to demonstrate:.•    Some experience or exposure to utility surveying, land surveying, or related site-based work
    •    Basic understanding of underground utility tracing or GPR (training will be provided)
    •    Willingness to learn and develop technical skillsAbility to work in a variety of environments
    •    A flexible approach to working hours
    •    Full UK manual driving licence
    •    CSCS card (or willingness to obtain one)It is desirable, that you also have some or all of the following:•    Experience using CAD software
    •    Basic Microsoft Word skills
    •    Working knowledge or awareness of PAS 128
    •    Any relevant qualifications (e.g., ProQual/NVQ Level 3)
    •    SSSTS (not essential)Travel across the UK is very common. Candidates must be open to working away from home during the week and accommodate night or evening shifts as needed.

As a Field Crew Operative, you will work with teams on various wastewater and water projects around the UK & Ireland. The Field Crew Operative will be part of a small team installing and maintaining flow monitors, water quality instrumentation and auto-samplers into sewer pipes and rivers around the UK.The work you do will contribute to improving our environment; you will be helping water companies to manage their sewer networks, and this will help to prevent flooding, reduce pollution and improve the health of rivers and bathing waters.Typical Day of a Field Crew OperativeYour typical day will involve visiting various sites where you will support your Field Crew Leader in setting up safely and then carry out the installation, calibration or removal of our equipment – which is usually located inside a confined space or a river environment. This will include lifting and carrying equipment from the vehicle to the specified site.We provide comprehensive training to ensure you succeed in this role - no prior experience necessary. Our training programme covers equipment operation, safety protocols, confined space procedures, and technical skills development.The tasks you will undertake will include (but are not limited to):•    Field Operations - Install and retrieve monitoring equipment at client sites

    •    Strong work ethic, positive and can-do attitude and ability to use your own initiative when faced with problems
    •    Comfortable working around raw sewage and in confined spaces
    •    Clean and valid driving licence
