The role
We are looking for a talented and enthusiastic Landscape Architect or Planner to join the Place team with a view to specialising in landscape and visual impact assessment (LVIA) and landscape planning project work.
You could already be chartered or working towards chartership, for which we offer support and mentoring. The teams are involved in a diverse range of significant development and renewable energy projects throughout the UK and the Republic of Ireland. If you are successful, you will have the opportunity to further develop your skills and expertise, contributing to a wide range of exciting projects from mixed-use and urban re-development projects to Nationally Significant Infrastructure Projects, onshore and offshore wind farms and strategic housing promotion and development.
Our approach to landscape planning and assessment includes a strong emphasis on iterative analysis and design, to inform developments as part of mitigation by design strategies, so there are also opportunities for creative input into schemes through landscape planning inputs.
About you
The focus of this position is primarily on LVIA related work, and we would consider applications from candidates with experience in this field for a senior position with a project management role, as well as applications for a graduate or landscape architect with enthusiasm to develop a career in LVIA, for which we are able offer on the job training and mentoring by experienced staff should this be required.
You must have excellent English language, strong report writing skills, be eligible to live and work in the UK and have a driving licence.

The Role This key position you will manage and oversee ecological aspects of projects, in addition to providing support and mentorship for the growing team.
You would likely lead on: • Management of ecological aspects of development and land management projects, advising clients on schemes in the renewable energy, built environment, infrastructure and mining and minerals sectors. • Design and delivery of post-consent habitat management and monitoring strategies. • Preparation of fee proposals and scope of works, report writing and technical review of peer and sub-contractor reports. • Supervision and mentoring of ecology staff. Based on skills and experience, the role may also include staff management and leading work on particular ecological specialisms. • Scheduling, managing and ensuring delivery of complex ecological survey work packages on time and budget, using in-house and occasionally sub-contractor staff. • Liaising with other SLR technical teams on a variety of subjects including planning, landscape, hydrology, noise and air quality whilst working closely with senior members of the ecology team in other SLR offices in the UK and other regions. • Seeking opportunities through coordinated business development to expand ecology and other services and capabilities in the region.

Our multidisciplinary design studio, based in central Manchester, is looking for an AD / director level landscape architect to join our team.

The role
You will play a key leadership role with other senior staff within the Manchester studio and the wider National Place Team at SLR. The role is based in Manchester but will include involvement in local, regional and national Place Team projects across the UK and Ireland.
Collaboration with other disciplines will be a key part of this role, working together to shape and design places in a creative and design-led way.
You will be involved in managing a variety of complex projects, alongside the wider team, at any one time, to lead on the development and delivery of place-led landscape projects and to grow and development a diverse project portfolio. This will include all stages of the design process from early advice, concept strategies, public consultation, through to planning submissions and delivery on site.
Your experience, design approach and track record will be critical to supporting the team through these stages.
You will be involved in a wide range of design challenges facing the natural and built environment. The role
Duties will be varied but will include:
• Management and delivery of ornithological aspects of projects, and providing clients, colleagues and consultees with specialist technical advice. • Leading on ornithology surveys, following a range of survey methodologies and techniques. • Production of technical reports, including scoping reports and EIA chapters, including data analysis and presentation. • Support in the delivery of tenders, including production of technical proposals, determining budgets, arranging sub-contract quotes and contract review. • Supervision and mentoring of junior ornithology staff. Depending on skills and experience, the role may also include staff management. • Liaising with other SLR technical teams on a variety of subjects including ecology, planning, landscape, and hydrology, whilst working closely with senior members of the ecology team in other SLR offices.
Due to the nature of client sites and survey types, the position may involve remote working and some out-of-hours work.
About you
We are open to offering this role at a range of seniorities, from Senior Field to Associate Consultant level, but would ideally like professional experience within ornithological consulting, as well as:
• A degree in Ecology, Biological Science or equivalent (MSc desirable) plus appropriate level of membership of CIEEM or equivalent. • A passion for ornithology demonstrated by excellent bird identification skills and experience in a range of ornithology survey techniques (e.g. vantage points, moorland breeding birds, raptors). • An understanding of scientific data collection methods and an aptitude for accurate and clear recording and storage of data. • Demonstrable competence in project management, planning work in line with health and safety procedures, budget management, and liaison with clients, subcontractors and stakeholders. • Good theoretical grounding in ecology, survey guidance and environmental assessment. • Demonstrable understanding of UK wildlife legislation and the conservation status of UK bird species. • Excellent communication and report writing skills.

The Role
Working with support from our experienced and expert team, you will be given the opportunity to lead project management and technical delivery tasks, while supporting business development activities including bid development. You will be confident in the management of technical data and the development of high quality reports and other project related outputs, and will be comfortable and confident in engaging with internal and external clients and stakeholders at all levels, in both written and verbal formats. You will have the opportunity to assist senior members of different disciplines (for example the Process Engineering, ESG and Energy Advisory teams) within SLR in undertaking similar tasks, potentially including site-based work.
In addition, you will also be given the opportunity to:
• Support the ongoing growth of the Sustainable Waste Management team, leading and contributing to proposals for a wide range of clients • Support local authority clients through service reviews, using models to understand the implications of service change and researching best practice and innovation • Support clients to develop solutions to meet sustainability objectives • Provide day to day support on a wide variety of projects, helping to meet client and business objectives • Support and manage projects to ensure client and business objectives are achieved, maintaining budgets and forecasts • Support junior staff to provide capacity within the team and widen capabilities

We have an opportunity to join our growing Arboriculture team at SLR, to support projects across multiple locations within the UK.
Working within a diverse multidisciplinary consultancy, you're workload will be varied as the Arboricultural team work with clients across a broad range of sectors in Built Environment (including residential, healthcare, public realm etc), Leisure, Minerals and Mining, Waste and Energy.
With the element of travel and site work required, the role can be remotely based, but with the current team spread our preference would be for someone able support projects in the Manchester, Leeds, Sheffield or Nottingham region.
The role
This role offers the chance to be involved in a wide range of natural and built environment projects across the UK, working across our multidisciplinary team at SLR, which is involved in some of the most significant development projects throughout the UK with a range of fascinating public and private sector clients. Many of these are moving towards implementation as well as a number already on site, providing an excellent range of experience to enable you to progress in your career.in arboriculture.
Day-to-day tasks will be varied, but will include:
• Undertaking BS5837: 2012 tree surveys • Producing Baseline Reports, Arboricultural Impact Assessments (AIA) and Arboricultural Method Statements (AMS), along with Tree Constraints Plans and Tree Protection Plans • Leading consultation with local authority tree officers and other stakeholders to support the project teams on arboricultural matters • Collaborating with the wider project team during design development

About your role
As an Associate Heritage Consultant, you will play a key role in managing and delivering projects across various sectors, including the Built Environment and Renewable Energy sectors. You will provide expert guidance and support the growth of our heritage services, working closely with clients, planning authorities, and stakeholders to ensure compliance with heritage legislation and best practices.
You will also be responsible for preparing technical reports, i.e., appraisal and feasibility studies, heritage statements and impact assessments, desk-based assessments, statements of significance, and EIA cultural heritage chapters.
Main duties and responsibilities:

The Role
Duties will be varied but will include:
• Managing / overseeing ecological aspects of projects, advising clients on schemes such as mixed use and residential developments, minerals/waste projects, infrastructure and energy projects • Preparation of fee proposals and scope of works, report writing and technical review of peer and sub-contractor reports • Supervision and mentoring of ecology staff. Depending on skills and experience, the role may also include staff management and leading work on particular ecological specialisms • Scheduling, managing and ensuring delivery of ecological survey work packages on time and budget, using in-house and occasionally sub-contractor staff • Liaising with other SLR technical teams on a variety of subjects including planning, landscape, hydrology, noise and air quality whilst working closely with senior members of the ecology team in other SLR offices, both in UK and overseas
The role will involve working with other team members located across the UK and may require short-term travel across the UK and potentially overseas, depending on client/project sites.
About you
You will have an ecological specialism, whether it is habitat survey, protected species, ornithology or another skill. You should be able to demonstrate competence in a range of different areas of ecological consultancy practice and would be able to lead and mentor others in your chosen specialism. We also envisage that you would be able to demonstrate experience of business development, client and project management, preferably gained in a commercial consultancy environment.
• A passion for ecology, for delivering high quality work and for assisting the career development of other ecological professionals • Demonstrable field survey skills, including surveying UK habitats and survey and mitigation design for protected species • Demonstrable competence in project management, planning work in line with health and safety procedures, budget management and technical report preparation • Excellent working knowledge of wildlife legislation and planning policy • Work experience within a range of sectors including residential/mixed use, infrastructure, minerals and waste, and energy • Relevant degree level qualification plus appropriate level of membership of CIEEM or equivalent • Full driving licence valid in the UK
