Job overview We are seeking a compassionate and dedicated Band 6 Maternity Mental Health Midwife to join our team at Jessop Wing, Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. This is a rewarding opportunity to work alongside specialist midwives and multidisciplinary teams to support women experiencing mental health challenges during pregnancy and the postnatal period.
You will play a vital role in delivering trauma-informed, holistic care, acting as a key link between maternity services and mental health providers across South Yorkshire. Your work will help ensure women and families receive the emotional and psychological support they need, while also empowering staff through training and guidance.
To work with the band 7 Maternity Mental Health Specialist Midwives and multidisciplinary team to provide additional support and advice to women in pregnancy and the postnatal period who are experience mental health challenges. You will be passionate about supporting women with trauma and/or mental health issues as well as acting as a resource for staff.
You will work closely with women and their families to plan and co-ordinate their care based on their individual needs. You will provide a link between the maternity service across the multi-agency area of South Yorkshire and Bassetlaw and other services involved in mental health care, including the local primary care therapy service (IAPT), Maternal Mental Health Service and Perinatal Mental Health Team. This will include a range of health education, support and special care advice relating to these specific issues.
You will support your colleagues through co-ordinating and providing training and guidance in maternity mental health for key maternity staff, to enable them to provide holistic care that optimizes emotional wellbeing as well as physical health. Main duties of the job Provide one-to-one antenatal and postnatal support for women with moderate to severe mental health needs.
Act as a visible point of contact and advocate for women during maternity care, ensuring their concerns are heard and addressed.
Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams including IAPT, Perinatal Mental Health, and Maternal Mental Health Services.
Develop and deliver group antenatal education sessions focused on perinatal mental health.
Support staff through training, guidance, and development of care pathways for mental health in maternity.
Attend and contribute to pre-birth planning meetings and multidisciplinary reviews.
Promote evidence-based practice, participate in audits and service development, and ensure policies are up to date.
Liaise with external agencies to improve service integration and continuity of care for women and families.
Champion inclusive care and address disparities, including the impact of trauma and racial bias in maternity services. This vacancy is advertised on a fixed term contract basis for a period of 12 months due to the post being externally funded. The fixed term contract status of the post holder will be reviewed in accordance with the Trust's legal obligations regarding fixed term contracts taking into consideration the ongoing source of the external funding and the requirement for the post to be maintained.

Attained or working towards first degree or equivalent short courses at degree level
