    The role is permanent and would suit an AAT, ACCA/ACA accountant who is seeking to consolidate their knowledge of accounts, compliance and trusts, and take it to the next level by building on their advisory, client management and supervisory skills.

    The candidate would be responsible for working on a variety of clients' affairs, and the role would include (but is not limited to) the following key elements, within agreed deadlines:
    Preparation of year-end financial statements Taking ownership of ad-hoc advisory projects Review of work prepared by other members of the team Assisting managers with looking after a large portfolio of accounts and bookkeeping clients Assisting clients with VAT and bookkeeping queries, including set up and support on accounting systems Training and supporting others in the office Work planning and annual timetabling Billing and financial management Cross-departmental communication Building and maintaining client relationships
    Experience of preparing year end accounts using accounts production software such as CCH or an equivalent is also required.

    The team

    You will be part of the Accounts and Trust team in our Bristol office, which is a friendly and supportive team consisting of 24 people, from trainees to Director. The team work with all partners within the office, and firmwide, on a variety of tasks including statutory accounts preparation and ad-hoc advisory work.

    There is a real focus on development within the team, with the aim being for staff to develop their careers long term within the firm. Alongside a commitment to client service, and excellence in their work, there is a willingness to help each other and succeed as a team.

    The Office

    Our Bristol office provides a full range of accounting, audit and assurance, business advisory, tax, and VAT services to businesses and individuals both in the UK and internationally. Our staff regularly collaborate with colleagues in our national offices to ensure seamless service delivery to clients, no matter where they are located. The Bristol office offers a small office feel within the larger Saffery family of around 1200 people. Our Bristol office is home to 8 partners and more than 125 members of staff.

    You
    Preferably ACA/ACCA or AAT qualified with some prior experience of working in practice. Strong numeracy and analytical skills, along with the ability to learn quickly. A good knowledge of Excel and Word is essential. Understanding of accounting systems including Xero, Quickbooks, Sage, Key Prime, Farmplan as well as CCH AP would be advantageous. Self-motivated and pro-active, with the ability to organise your own workload. Display a flexible, professional approach and have the confidence and ability to communicate effectively with managers, partners and clients. Natural team player with a positive and enthusiastic attitude and excellent eye for detail. Excellent organisational skills and ability to work on multiple jobs at once Ability to work in a pressured environment Proactive nature and enjoys working as part of a team.

    The role

    We are looking for a bright and enthusiastic Senior Manager or Manager to work within our Employment Taxes Team and become part of the team. The successful candidate will play a critical role in providing compliance and advisory services to the Saffery client base.

    You will be responsible for managing a portfolio of clients, delivering excellent tax advice, and supporting the firm's business development initiatives. This successful candidate will possess strong technical expertise, leadership abilities, and the ability to foster client relationships and to win new work.

    The responsibilities
    As a Partner led firm, you would be required to support the Engagement Partner through the client's objectives and deliver on technical demands (with the support of a well-established team framework) to deliver excellent tax advice and service to the client. Delivering employment tax consultancy advice, including compliance reviews, work status assessments (IR35), due diligence and risk management. Acting as a senior point of contact for client on matters including, PAYE, Construction Industry Scheme (CIS), National Minimum Wage (NMW) Ensuring deliverables are prepared within the set time frame. Mentor junior team members, imparting technical guidance and feeding back on performance Providing excellent client management skills including budgeting, invoicing clients and dealing with ad hoc queries. Pursue opportunities to grow the employment tax practice through referrals, networking, and contributing to pitches.
    You

    The successful applicant will be enthusiastic and technically capable, with excellent interpersonal and organisational skills. The position will require a high level of teamwork and commitment, with the ability to manage deadlines and run multiple projects concurrently. Candidates should be self-motivated, display a positive approach and can get things done. In addition, they should possess the confidence and professionalism to establish credibility at all levels, be commercially minded and have a clear perception of client requirements.

    Technical skills are important, and the successful candidate will have a proven track record of delivering leading engagements.

    This position also requires a team-orientated and flexible personality, alongside the experience of organising the delivery of tax work, problem solving and the ability to use their own initiative.

    The successful candidate will possess a wide range of advisory and compliance experience. The candidate will need to have experience in managing a demanding portfolio.

    Candidates must be professionally qualified (CTA, ATT, ACA/ACCA , STEP or equivalent) with relevant experience.

    The firm will provide training and support to help develop the successful candidate's specialist knowledge and capabilities. For the right individual, there is scope to progress quickly within the team.

    Take the Lead in KYC & AML Operations
    We're looking for a detail-driven leader to steer KYC remediation and ongoing monitoring processes, working closely with the FCC's leadership team.     The team

    The FCC team is well established and led by the firm's MLRO and Deputy MLRO, both of whom have full-time responsibility for overseeing the function. The team currently consists of 17 members of staff mostly based in London. Although this role is being housed in our Manchester office, the successful candidate will report to the Deputy MLRO and fully integrate into the core FCC team and regularly visit the London office for team building, training, etc (travel costs will be covered by Saffery).

    The successful candidate will have worked within Professional Services, ideally an accountancy firm, and have extensive knowledge of AML regulations and how they apply to ongoing CDD procedures.

    Salary/benefits

    • A 35-hour working week
    • Eligibility for the firm's Profit Sharing Plan that runs from October to September each year. The scheme enables staff to share in the profits of the firm.

    As a member of our team, you will work with senior staff to lead the preparation of R&D claims, ensuring compliance with R&D tax legislation and providing valuable expertise to our clients.

    The team

    Our R&D is a close-knit and collaborative division of our national Corporate Tax team. Corporate Tax spans our 9 office locations and comprises 7 partners and over 100 professionals. The team deals with a large portfolio of companies operating in a variety of sectors, including manufacturing, technology, retail, recruitment, financial services, hospitality and property. These clients range from smaller owner-managed businesses to large and complex listed groups, as well as charities and not for profit organisations.

    Responsibilities:
    Collaborate confidently and knowledgeably with senior colleagues within the R&D, corporate tax, audit, and accounts teams. Support client meetings and presentations, explaining our services effectively. Assist in identifying opportunities and participating in new business pitches for both new and existing clients. Manage and successfully deliver R&D tax projects, emphasizing technical excellence and practical, business-driven solutions. Prepare comprehensive documentation in line with UK BEIS guidelines and CIRD manual to support R&D claims while adhering to the firm's quality standards. Craft technical descriptions of client projects for inclusion in reports to be submitted to HMRC, and edit client-drafted descriptions for improvements. Coordinate and participate in interviews with clients' technical and finance teams, advising on R&D tax relief and qualifying R&D activities and expenditures. Contribute to claim methodology development and assist in the preparation of R&D tax relief claims for submission to HMRC. Support R&D engagements, including cost monitoring, billing, risk management, deliverables, and client relationships. Assist in preparing documentation and liaising with HMRC to address inquiries related to R&D Tax claims. Cultivate and maintain strong client relationships, delivering high levels of client service. Foster relationships within the firm and externally with clients, identifying growth opportunities and managing client expectations. Keep all relevant teams and Partners informed about project responsibilities and any issues that may impact client relationships. Collaborate with colleagues across different disciplines to build an internal network.
    You

    The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate the following:
    Strong R&D technical skills; Proactive, resilient, and driven with recent practical experience managing an R&D tax portfolio. Strong managerial skills and up-to-date working knowledge of R&D tax issues. Experience in organizing the delivery of R&D tax work, problem-solving, and taking initiative. Confidence and professionalism to establish credibility at all levels. Commercial acumen and a clear understanding of client requirements. Preferably CTA and/or ACA/ACCA qualified or with strong understand of CT comps.
