Our Soils, Crops and Water Business carry out a wide range of technical field, glasshouse and laboratory studies in a wide range of agricultural crops, specialising in Crop Pathology, Physiology, Soils and Nutrition, Entomology and Weeds.We have vacancies for a number of Field Research Scientists, looking to gain practical knowledge and experience in a research environment.  Contracts will be for a period of 5-6 months, preferably commencing in Late March/April 2026, with potential opportunities of full-time employment thereafter.  You will be working as a member of the team responsible for setting up and undertaking field and plot experiments as part of the ADAS R&D agricultural and agri-environmental programs.  Successful candidates will need to be prepared to be ‘hands-on’ and learn skills on the job, their duties will include a wide range of practical tasks, such as sampling and disease monitoring of plants, assisting marking out and preparation of studies, application of treatments, including spraying of chemicals onto trials, assessments and observations, preparation and processing of plant, soil and water samples, harvesting of plots and collection on processing of dataSuccessful candidates will either have a qualification in an agricultural, horticultural, or plant-based science subject, or be able to demonstrate an interest and willingness to learn skills in these areas. Candidates will be required to work 37.5 hours a week.  Due to the seasonal nature of the work a flexible approach is needed, as there will be a requirement to work overtime (evenings and weekends) during busy periods to ensure scientific objectives are met, and delivery within suitable weather conditions are optimized.  A full driving licence to drive manual vehicles in the UK is essential.  Opportunities may arise for permanent positions during and after the fixed term period.In return we offer a pro rata salary of £26,000 - £26,500, depending on experience, with payment for additional hours worked.
