Enhanced Supportive Care (ESC) is a modern approach to cancer care that aims to improve the quality of life for patients and families.  About the Role For more information on the Job Description and Responsibilities please click the link below.More detail about the roleThe postholder will work as a specialist oncology Enhanced Supportive Care (ESC) dietitian within the Nutrition and Dietetic Service across Royal Devon University Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust based at the Wonford Hospital (Eastern). They will be required to deliver a high quality, evidence-based nutrition and dietetic service to adult medical oncology and haematology patients under the care of the ESC team within the Trust acute service. Services will focus around providing specialist oncology and haematology dietetic care to mainly outpatients by telephone or video consultations. Training of healthcare professionals on oncology nutrition and diet matters is also required.This post will focus on supporting patients earlier and across the continuum of cancer care, providing support for patients mainly in the outpatient settings. The post holder will work closely with the RDUH ESC multidisciplinary team which includes the ESC Palliative Care Consultant, ESC Clinical Nurse Specialists, ESC Occupational Therapists, ESC Physiotherapist, ESC Cancer Support Worker and ESC Administrator. They will also be required to liaise with the Clinical Psychologist, GPs, local hospice teams, community nursing and support services Friends of the Oncology and Radiotherapy centre (FORCE).The dietitian will be a source of clinical expertise within the Trust. The post holder will also work closely within our dietetic oncology team which includes Head and Neck, Upper GI, Colorectal and Oncology/Haematology Specialist Dietitians. The post holder will also be part of the RDUH (Eastern) Nutrition and Dietetics team and the wider Therapies Department (Occupational Therapist, Physiotherapist and Speech and Language Therapists). We have good clinical supervision, peer support and CPD opportunities available. This is a fantastic opportunity for anyone with an interest in oncology and haematology, and who are looking to support patients preventing and managing adverse effects of cancer and its treatment, including physical, psychological, and spiritual symptoms. The post holder would be providing support at various stages from pre-diagnosis to post-treatment care, aiming to overcome barriers in early palliative care and improvement in patient experience. RDUH is the first Trust to implement an electronic patient system (EPIC) across both acute and community services. The post holder is responsible for ensuring that systems are in place to prioritise and manage the caseload and keep updated to ensure the service has a strong evidence base and is delivered in line with national guidance.The post-holder will be responsible for teaching and leadership within the team working alongside the Oncology Clinical Lead to support the training and development of junior staff, students and other healthcare professionals.
