    Senior Technical Applications Engineer
    Metrology | Smart Manufacturing
Gloucester A leading smart manufacturing and metrology specialist is looking to appoint an experienced Technical Applications Engineer to support continued growth across complex customer applications. This is a senior, hands on role for someone who enjoys being close to customers, shaping technical solutions, and acting as the link between sales, engineering, and real world manufacturing challenges. It is not a desk based support role and it is not a pure sales position. You will be working with advanced metrology and measurement technologies across precision engineering environments, supporting everything from early technical discussions through to project delivery and specialist measurement work. The role The majority of your time will be focused on supporting customer applications and sales activity. This includes running demonstrations and feasibility studies, working directly with customers on site, and providing technical input that helps define the right solution for each application. Alongside this, you will play an active role in technical development projects where standard equipment needs to be adapted or integrated. This can involve fixturing, software, programming, system logic, and application specific problem solving. There is also an element of hands on subcontract measurement work, supporting key customers and ensuring the technical team remains close to the equipment and emerging technologies. About you This role would suit an experienced Applications Engineer, Product Specialist, Metrology Engineer, or a highly technical sales professional who still enjoys being deeply involved in the technical detail. You will have a strong background in metrology, precision measurement, quality, manufacturing, or closely related engineering disciplines. You are comfortable working directly with customers, confident explaining complex technical concepts, and practical enough to roll your sleeves up when required. A formal engineering qualification is expected, but real world experience is equally important. You will have high attention to detail, a customer focused mindset, and the ability to balance competing technical and commercial priorities. Why this role is different This is a genuinely varied position with real autonomy and visibility within the business. You are not simply supporting sales, you are helping shape technical solutions and influence how customers adopt new technologies. You will be trusted to represent the business technically, contribute ideas, and play a meaningful role in how the applications function develops. Future progression As the smart manufacturing division continues to grow, there is clear scope for this role to evolve beyond day to day applications support. Over time, this is expected to include greater ownership of the applications function, involvement in technical strategy, and mentoring or leading others as the team expands. The business is looking for someone who wants to grow with it, not remain static in a purely support focused role. Package Competitive salary
