Eligibility & Clearance: British passport holder or Indefinite Leave to Remain (ILR) - no sponsorship available SC Eligible (must be able to obtain Security Clearance) No right to work restrictions Certifications & Status: Current or previous CHECK Team Member (CTM / CSTM) status Relevant industry certifications (OSCP, CRTO, PenTest, or equivalent) Experience: Hands-on commercial penetration testing experience (web application and/or infrastructure) Proven ability to scope, conduct, and report on engagements independently Strong written English - you must be able to produce clear, client-ready reports Comfortable working remotely and managing your own time and workload Role Overview We're working with a well-regarded, specialist cyber security consultancy with a strong reputation in the UK market. This isn't a box-ticking operation - these are real practitioners, led by technical people, doing high-quality work for serious clients. They're growing their pentesting team and need a strong mid-level tester who can hit the ground running. If you're currently CTM-certified (or previously held the status), comfortable across web app and infrastructure engagements, and want to work somewhere that actually invests in your development - this is worth a conversation. At the top of the band, they're looking for someone currently active in CHECK work with a strong track record. If that's you, this will move fast. What You'll Be Doing Conducting web application and infrastructure penetration tests across a varied client base Producing high-quality, client-facing reports that clearly communicate risk and remediation Supporting CHECK-scope engagements where appropriate Contributing to methodology, tooling, and internal knowledge sharing Working collaboratively with a team of technically sharp, certified consultants Nice to Have Experience with red team operations or adversarial simulation Additional certs: CRTP, CRTO, CSTL, or similar advanced qualifications Exposure to cloud environments (AWS, Azure, GCP) Experience across a range of sectors (finance, public sector, healthcare, etc.) ?? Core technologies: Kubernetes and containerisation (Docker, orchestration at scale) Hands-on production infrastructure experience Infrastructure as Code (Terraform, Ansible, or similar) Proficient in Python, Go, Java, or a comparable backend language CI/CD pipeline design and delivery Environment: Comfortable operating in a fast-paced, high-autonomy environment Proven track record building and deploying production systems, not just maintaining them Able to own reliability, monitoring, and operations end-to-end Happy to participate in an on-call rotation Eligibility to hold UK SC clearance (British Passport, ILR, or Settled Status) Key skills: Production-grade infrastructure design, deployment, and scaling Strong Kubernetes and containerisation depth Modern automation and IaC tooling Solid understanding of distributed systems On-call and incident response experience Confident debugging and optimising across the stack Able to work UK hours and hybrid in London Role Overview We're partnered with a publicly listed technology company building mission-critical software for some of the most important institutions in the world. This is a forward-deployed infrastructure role where you'll operate at startup speed inside a high-security, high-impact environment - owning reliability, deployments, and automation for systems where uptime genuinely matters. This is a hands-on role focused on production infrastructure, system reliability, and scaling operations, working closely with product and delivery teams in a high-ownership setting with minimal bureaucracy. Key Responsibilities Build, operate, and maintain high-performance, scalable, and reliable production infrastructure Own reliability end-to-end including monitoring, alerting, config management, and upgrades Deploy new products and run migrations across production environments Lead automation efforts to reduce manual toil and improve resilience Debug, harden, and optimise services with a focus on long-term reliability Participate in an on-call rotation (roughly every 5-6 weeks) for production support Partner with delivery and product teams on sensible, scalable systems design Nice to Have Background in defence tech or another high-complexity technical organisation Experience at a major cloud or big-tech company Exposure to modern LLM / AI tooling Distributed systems design experience Prior SRE or on-call rotation ownership If you've built and run production infrastructure at scale and want to work on systems that actually matter, let's talk. Tech Lead | Android / Embedded Devices | C# / .NET MAUI | Hands-On + People Leadership | REMOTE Salary: £90,000 + excellent benefits Contract: Permanent Start: ASAP (4 weeks notice periods maximum for this one!) Working Model: Fully Remote Location: UK Eligibility: No sponsorship available. You must hold ILR or a British passport (role is subject to background checks) (Non-Negotiable) ?? Non-Negotiables - Please only apply if you have ALL of the following ?? Core Technologies: Strong, production C# and .NET (7+) - not hobby-level .NET MAUI for Android (or strong Xamarin / native Android and ready to move to MAUI) Android platform development: activities/intents, lifecycle, background execution limits, device-owner APIs, MDM/EMM concepts Hands-on device / hardware integration (scanners, imagers, card readers, printers, serial, GPS) Environment: Proven ownership of a delivery team's outcomes - sprint commitments, quality, operational health, not just your own tickets Real people leadership - substantive 1-2-1s, developmental feedback, hiring input On-call and incident ownership taken through to resolution, not handed off at first sign of difficulty Comfortable in a regulated, high-throughput product environment Honest, early risk communication as a habit, not an exception Key Skills: Messaging and comms: MQTT (pub/sub), HTTP clients, offline/online state handling Logging and observability: log4net today, moving to OpenTelemetry / OTLP and structured logging Native interop: JNI / Android binding libraries, P/Invoke against native libraries Data and config: SQLite, XML-based configuration, key-value stores Sound day-to-day technical judgement without escalating every decision UK hours with high-level written and spoken English Role Overview We're partnered on an exclusive Tech Lead search with an established, market-leading business operating mission-critical devices deployed at national scale in a regulated, high-volume payments environment. This is a genuine leadership seat, not a title in waiting. You'll lead a single delivery team of around 5 to 8 engineers (including embedded QA), own its delivery end to end, and grow every person in it. You'll stay technically credible in your domain, run the ceremonies that actually produce outcomes, and represent your team honestly upward. If you want deep technical work with zero people accountability, this isn't the one - and that's the point. Key Responsibilities Own your team's delivery: sprint and quarterly commitments, with risk surfaced early and honestly Break complex features into team-sized work and run standups, planning, and retrospectives that produce real outcomes Manage capacity properly - explicit space for tech debt, not an invisible tax Lead people: regular 1-2-1s, honest development conversations, and hiring against a competency matrix Own operational health: your team's on-call rota, incidents in your domain owned to resolution Make sound day-to-day technical calls and capture the significant ones as ADRs Partner closely with Product on what your team is committing to and why Escalate cross-team risk and capacity conflicts before they become a miss Nice to Have Payments exposure: EMV, contactless, and an appreciation of the compliance surface (PCI-DSS, key management) Matrix-organisation experience - adopting standards set by roles you don't manage Azure DevOps for backlog and pipeline tooling Regulated-environment experience (financial services, transport, healthcare) Rust and/or Python, or a genuine willingness to learn them Leading a team through organisational or structural change without stalling delivery If you tick every box above, hold ILR or a British passport, and can start ASAP, we'd love to hear from you. Head of Architecture | C# / .NET | Legacy Decomposition | Azure | Fully Remote | Exclusive to Optimal Salary: Up to £100,000 + excellent benefits Contract: Permanent Start: ASAP - 4 weeks notice maximum for this one Working Model: Fully Remote (UK) Eligibility: No sponsorship - you must hold a British passport or Indefinite Leave to Remain (ILR) Requirement: Seeking a senior architect or principal-level professional with a proven track record of breaking down complex legacy platforms. Must have a solid background in Azure and C#/.NET, no exceptions . ?? Non-Negotiables - Please only apply if you have ALL of the following ?? Core Technologies: C# and .NET (Framework and modern) SQL Server at scale Azure (cloud experience essential) RabbitMQ, Redis, CI/CD Able to read any part of a large codebase to understand what it does (you will not write production features day-to-day) Environment: Significant experience as a senior architect or principal engineer on a complex, multi-year platform - not greenfield Proven experience evolving a live system under delivery pressure Hands-on with gradual decomposition of legacy systems: strangler patterns, service boundary definition, data migration sequencing Experience operating in a regulated environment (PCI DSS, ISO 27001, Cyber Essentials or equivalent) Proven ability to influence without authority - you have driven standards adoption across teams that did not report to you Key Skills: Ability to point to a forum, guild, or chapter model you have run and the outcomes it produced Strong written and verbal communication across registers - whiteboard with engineers, plain-language summary with commercial stakeholders Experience mentoring and growing senior engineers so their judgement develops under your influence, not their dependency on you Comfortable defining engineering standards, integration patterns, and cross-service contracts that reflect real practice Role Overview This is an exclusive role to Optimal, and a brand-new, high-impact hire for an established, profitable UK software business running a mission-critical, high-volume transactional platform that processes billions of transactions in a regulated environment. You will be the senior-most individual contributor in the engineering function and the person accountable for technical coherence across the whole platform. Your job is to stand up the architecture function from scratch: the target architecture, the ARB process, the Architecture Guild, and the engineering standards that shape how the whole org builds. This is not a line-management role, and it is not a hands-on feature-development role. It is the technical authority the engineering teams unify behind - a practitioner who reads code, joins design sessions, and gets standards adopted through influence, not command. The function already has strong Principal Engineers, Tech Leads, and a Principal Security Engineer. Your job is to channel that capability into one coherent direction. Key Responsibilities Define and maintain a living 12-24 month target architecture: what stays, what moves, when, and what the service boundaries are Build the ARB process - templates, cadence, and the culture where decisions are recorded, traceable, and asked for rather than worked around Run the Architecture Guild as your channel for driving standards into teams that do not report to you Sequence decomposition: a principled backlog of which parts of the monolith to tackle first, in what order, and why Drive the pivot from infrastructure-level monitoring to outcome-based SLOs (latency, error rate, user impact) Partner with the Principal Security Engineer on technical security posture Publish engineering standards - coding conventions, integration patterns, observability, cross-service contracts - developed with the senior engineers so they reflect real practice Support technical hiring: calibration, interview panels, and shaping the technical bar Nice to Have Experience in regulated, payments-adjacent, or similarly compliance-heavy product domains Defining and driving an SLO-based observability posture across multiple services Hands-on microservices / AKS / Kubernetes at production scale Architecture certification (TOGAF, Azure Solutions Architect, or equivalent) Background in AppSec or secure design review If you tick all of the above and you thrive on influence over authority, we would love to hear from you.
