to join our growing electrical engineering team. As a Graduate Electrical Design Engineer, you will play a vital role in designing electrical systems for high-voltage power transmission and distribution networks, specifically focused on renewable energy and decarbonisation infrastructure. This is an excellent opportunity for a recent graduate to develop a strong technical foundation in electrical design and gain exposure to cutting-edge energy projects.Duties and Responsibilities
Electrical System Design: Assist in the design and development of electrical systems for HV power transmission and distribution networks, ensuring they meet the requirements of renewable energy projects.
Design Software & Tools: Use industry-standard electrical design software such as AutoCAD, ETAP, or DIgSILENT PowerFactory to create and modify electrical schematics, circuit diagrams, and system models.
Project Support: Work closely with senior design engineers to support the preparation of design documentation, specifications, and reports for electrical systems.
Collaboration: Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams including civil engineers, project managers, and clients to ensure seamless integration of electrical designs into overall project plans.
Compliance & Standards: Ensure all designs adhere to relevant electrical codes, industry standards, and safety regulations (such as IEC, BS7671, and National Grid standards).
Testing & Validation: Assist in the testing, validation, and commissioning processes to ensure that electrical systems meet performance criteria and quality standards.
Problem-Solving & Innovation: Identify areas for improvement within designs, propose engineering solutions, and work with the team to implement them efficiently.
Health & Safety: Ensure that all designs comply with health and safety regulations and contribute to the promotion of safe working practices within the team.
Professional Development: Participate in training and development programs to enhance your knowledge of electrical design principles, renewable energy systems, and engineering tools.
Skills and Experience: Educational Qualifications:
A degree (or equivalent) in Electrical Engineering, Power Systems Engineering, Renewable Energy, or a related discipline.
A strong interest in electrical system design and renewable energy technologies.
Skills and Experience:
A basic understanding of electrical engineering principles, particularly related to HV transmission and distribution systems.
Experience using CAD software (e.g., AutoCAD, Revit) or electrical design tools is desirable but not essential.
Knowledge of industry standards and regulations (IEC, BS7671, IEEE, etc.).
Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail, with the ability to develop practical engineering solutions.
Effective communication skills, both written and verbal, to interact with colleagues and clients.
A proactive approach to learning and self-development.
Desirable but not essential:
Any previous internships, work experience, or projects related to electrical system design or renewable energy.
Familiarity with power system analysis, simulation tools, or renewable energy systems such as solar, wind, and energy storage.
