Introducing the Collective – Octopus Energy’s renewable energy investment platform While Octopus Energy powers millions of homes with award-winning customer service and innovative energy products, the Collective helps drive the shift to a cleaner, fairer energy system by giving people the opportunity to invest in green energy projects. Launched in February 2025, the Collective is Octopus’ green energy investment platform, and our internship is an exciting opportunity to experience working in a start-up environment. Our first two green energy projects sold out in 6 days after raising a total of £1m investment, and we’re just getting started - we’re primed to become the number 1 investment platform for green energy projects in the UK and beyond. We’re looking for someone who has a passion for green energy with an interest in how we can make investment in renewables available to more people.  We are a small but mighty team, where members are agile and work across multiple areas. Work is split across running our platform, working on the next green energy projects to offer to investors, and thinking long term about the Collective’s future. If your application is successful, you will learn more about the process of launching a renewable energy project for investment and everything that’s going on behind the scenes of running our investment platform. What You'll Do... During your internship, you’ll help contribute to the Collective's growth, primarily working across Marketing, Product and Compliance. In your role, you will support the marketing of new investment products, as well as any engagement initiatives with our retail investors. You’ll also work with the team to expand our product line, performing market research and data analysis to inform the design of our next investment offerings. Alongside this you’ll be spending time with our Head of Compliance to understand how our investment platform stays in line with regulations, while keeping an eye out for any suspicious activity and financial crime.  As a new business within Octopus, you will also have the opportunity to explore wider areas of the team. These include updating our website, building out our pipeline by evaluating new green energy project investment opportunities, and getting a front-row seat to financial modeling to learn how we "unlock value" in a project to make it a better deal for our investors.  By the end of this internship, you will have explored the key areas of our team and understand the different pillars of a renewable energy investment start up business. You will also work on a project which you will present on our presentation day along with other interns and Octopus employees.  Check out some of the highlights from our team members below:  Cassie - Marketing I oversee all of the Collective’s content, from webpages and emails, all the way through to social posts and billboards. My job is to make sure that no matter where someone meets the Collective, their experience is seamless, cohesive, and unmistakably Octopus. Reysha - Head of Propositions As Head of Propositions, my focus is on unlocking strategic growth of the Collective. This involves building out new investment products, scaling propositions and expanding into different markets. My role includes assessing potential growth opportunities to understand whether they are suitable for our retail investors, and if so, work with the team to deliver it on the investment platform. Adam - Head of Compliance   As Head of Compliance for the Collective, I lead the Compliance and Risk functions. My role involves designing a customer onboarding journey compliant with UK laws, ensuring that investment product risks are identified and mitigated, and managing our relationship with the FCA (regulator). I oversee all operational areas, this includes tech, product, and investment, while managing the firm’s financial crime strategy, from identifying suspicious activity to reporting incidents to the relevant authorities.

What You'll Need... We're looking for someone open to working in a start up environment. Things can change quickly on our team, so you’ll need to be adaptable as we’re working out the best ways to expand investments into green energy projects. We ideally want someone who is interested in investments, but also the social aspects of shared ownership, helping people get involved in the energy transition and promoting more community involvement in energy generation. The strength of our team is in communication and bringing new ideas and thoughts to the table, so we’d love for this to be something that’s natural to you. If this sounds like you and you have a genuine passion for making renewable energy more accessible and wanting to help the environment, then we'd love to hear from you! How to apply Follow the link below to be taken to an application form where you will be prompted to 'Attach Resume/CV'. Please do not upload a CV. Instead, you should upload a cover letter made up of no more than 400 words. We’d like to know: A little bit about yourself! What do you hope to gain from an Internship with the Collective?  Why do you think shared ownership of renewable energy is important? If your application is successful, you will be asked to complete a short video interview to find out more about you and talk about the internship. Please also note that we are unable to sponsor visa applications for this role. We will review applications on a rolling basis. At Octopus Energy for Business, we’re redefining the energy market for UK businesses. We already support over 120,000 customers — but we’re only just getting started. We are reinventing Britain’s business energy market by rejecting brokers, delivering great value, outrageously good customer service and smart products like Shape Shifters and Electric Match that actually help businesses take control of their energy. As part of the wider Octopus Energy Group, we’re using technology, renewables and flexibility to help businesses cut costs and carbon at the same time. Now we’re ready to turn things up a notch. We want more businesses to know there’s a better option — and that’s where you come in. This is a hybrid role requiring a consistent presence in our London office, typically three days per week. What you'll do Own the end-to-end performance of our paid digital channels — primarily Google Ads and Meta Plan, build and optimise campaigns yourself — from keyword strategy and audience targeting through to ad creation and budget allocation Continuously test and learn, run structured experiments across creative, copy, landing pages and bidding strategies to improve performance Analyse campaign performance daily and translate data into clear actions that improve conversion rate, CPA and ROI Write high-performing ad copy tailored to SME audiences — clear, compelling and grounded in real customer value Work closely with web and product teams to improve landing pages and on-site journeys to maximise conversion Develop and refine audience strategies — from intent-based search to lookalike and retargeting audiences Manage and optimise budgets to drive efficient, scalable growth while maintaining strong cost control Identify new growth opportunities across channels, formats and platforms ( new campaign types, betas, or emerging channels) Collaborate with brand, content and partnerships teams to ensure campaigns are aligned and consistent across channels Bring ideas: challenge what we’re doing today and suggest smarter, simpler or more effective ways to grow What you should know We rarely use agencies for anything. We’re a fabulous team of in-house designers, UX, copywriters and front-end developers. We do our own media buying. You could say, in fact, that we’re half agency, but we’re your most favourite client ever, the one you secretly yearned to work at.
We’re looking for someone who knows digital, but really understands people. You’re comfortable with the numbers, but you think in behaviours. You’ll have the autonomy to get things live quickly, test, learn and improve — working closely with a creative team that moves at pace.
You like shipping, not polishing. You’re motivated by building something meaningful, not just managing it.
And finally, being honest and transparent, we find that people from traditional corporate businesses can struggle in this environment of creativity and rapidly changing priorities. We do hire people from these backgrounds - please don’t let that stop you from applying - but successful candidates understand the criticisms of old traditional business models and are eager to try something evidently more impactful. 💚 Why else you'll love it here 💚 • 💰 Wondering what the salary for this role is? Just ask us!
