From all manner of backgrounds, our engineers, scientists, and ex-military personnel combine their experience to help our customers achieve the true operational potential and help keep their people and platforms safe. We are continuing to grow our team at Porton Down, Salisbury, working on key state-of-the-art research, development, and delivery projects, led by our technical customer, Dstl. The primary role is to support testing and optimisation of RF receiver hardware in a new synthetic range (laboratory), with additional support to over-the-air testing (anechoic chamber) and field trials. This will require using a range of RF test equipment to perform digital and analogue injection testing within synthetic EW scenarios. This role will allow autonomy to explore ways to optimise RF receiver performance through configurable memory (mission data) to improve real-world operation of the system when deployed to target platforms. This exploratory process will focus on the increasingly congested and contested electromagnetic environment, developing tactics, techniques, and procedures (TTP) for the RF receiver. To accurately represent the synthetic use cases these systems are required to integrate into, the role will liaise with military, academia, industry and international stakeholders, to complete the validation process. This new lab will be using the latest commercial-off-the-shelf (COTS) development Radio Frequency System on Chip (RFSoC) boards to achieve a high-fidelity electromagnetic environment. You will become and expert in configuring and calibrating these devices to aid testing of the RF receiver systems. This role also has influence over future development work, driving requirements through analysis of current EW systems. As such and understanding of requirements generation and the engineering lifecycle will be valuable to the role. As part of this growth, MASS is looking for an Principal FPGA Engineer to join our modelling team in Lincoln, supporting the delivery of technical excellence on a large, cutting-edge System-of-Systems programme. This is a collaborative, hands on role, suited to someone with strong experience in FPGA design and a passion for developing signal processing systems for complex, real-world challenges. Youll work closely, with cross functional teams, acting as a technical lead in the design and delivery of systems that include RF signal chains, high-speed digital interfaces, and real-time DSP. Your work will influence key architectural decisions, address integration challenges, and help shape the development of reconfigurable hardware platforms for use in mission-critical environments. The invaluable experience youll bring, to help us achieve more. Define and implement advanced FPGA architectures for RF signal processing, high-throughput data handling, and real-time logic. Develop for AMD/Xilinx RFSoCs (e.g. Zynq UltraScale+) and Intel FPGAs (e.g. Agilex), including integration with high-speed ADCs/DACs. Collaborate with systems, RF, embedded software, and verification engineers to ensure end-to-end performance and compliance. Support test and lab evaluation using signal generators, spectrum analysers, and oscilloscopes. Lead or contribute to the implementation of designs using VHDL, SystemVerilog, and MATLAB/Simulink HDL Coder. Develop low-level C software for FPGA bring-up, test, and integration. Use industry-standard tools such as Vivado, Quartus, and ModelSim for simulation, synthesis, and implementation. Essential Experience Proven track record in delivering FPGA designs for real-time, high-speed, or RF-centric systems. Proficiency in VHDL, SystemVerilog, and embedded C for FPGA-host integration, control, and testing. Experience with MATLAB/Simulink and HDL Coder for algorithm-to-hardware workflows.
