    Structural Engineer : Plymouth, Cornwall, Exeter or Taunton
    Salary : £40,000 - £45,000, potentially negotiable

    MacArthur Recruitment is seeking a Structural Engineer, a graduate with a good few years solid UK (Eurocodes) experience (mandatory) and ideally keen to follow the chartership route or an appetite for self-development and learning. These roles are for a successful consulting engineering business – there are various locations available. There is some flexibility in the entry requirements for this position and further support can be provided whether it’s continuing your education or going through the process to become IEng or CEng. It is a varied role, working on large and small projects as well as on existing structures.

    You’ll work across a genuinely diverse project portfolio — from major residential schemes and international high rise developments to marine, education, industrial, leisure and on-off domestic projects. You’ll get great sector variety, and you’ll have influence from concept design right through to delivery.

    They need someone with strong structural design foundations and proven capability in Revit and Tekla. Your work will span calculations, technical reports and drawings, site inspections, and close coordination with clients and multidisciplinary teams across the practice.

    Overview of the role of Structural Engineer, some or all of this experience :
    Production of schematic / concept designs and structural design calculations
    Working with other construction professionals in the development of designs
    Working on designs for buildings, including steel frames, domestic, commercial, industrial, including factories
    Undertaking and developing structural designs using Tekla design/analysis software
    Variety of schemes
    Developing relationships with clients and other professionals

    Your experience for the role of Structural Engineer:
    Degree in Structural Engineering or Civil Engineering
    Eurocodes and UK Building regulations
    Sound commercial experience within a civil/structural design role
    IT literate with experience of structural design software packages.
    AutoCAD skills
    Revit and Tekla
    Strong interpersonal and communication skills
    Interested to work towards further professional qualifications, professional development and learning (e.g. C.Eng / I.Eng,  MIStructE/MICE or equivalent)
    Driving licence or willing to get one.

    Additional aspects of the role of Structural Engineer, some or all of the following:
    Responsible for the analysis and design of building structures, and depending on experience progressing to overall design of structures
    Managing projects
    Ability to produce drawings using AutoCAD software and use Tekla
    Checking drawings and calculations produced by others
    Visiting sites and attending site meetings
    Helping run internal planning and design meetings
    Attend external design meetings with clients
    Prepare correspondence and reports.

    MacArthur Recruitment are working on behalf of a long‑established, multi‑disciplinary engineering consultancy who are looking for an experienced Civil Engineer to join their expanding Cardiff team, operating at Senior or Principal level depending on experience.

    This is an excellent opportunity for a capable, forward‑thinking engineer to take a leading role within a growing Drainage Infrastructure team. You will support the delivery of civil engineering design across a wide range of infrastructure projects, working closely with senior leadership in a collaborative and supportive environment.

    The position centres on the technical design and delivery of projects, with a strong emphasis on Sustainable Urban Drainage Systems (SuDS) and traditional surface water drainage design. It suits someone who enjoys solving complex engineering challenges and consistently delivering high‑quality, client‑focused outcomes.

    Key Responsibilities for the role of Civil Engineer :
    Contribute to and help lead the delivery of civil engineering design across infrastructure projects
    Lead the development of surface water and foul water drainage strategies and detailed designs
    Produce SuDS and conventional drainage solutions
    Manage multiple concurrent projects and prioritise workloads effectively
    Provide technical guidance and support resource planning
    Mentor and support engineers at different stages of their development
    Liaise with statutory bodies including Natural Resources Wales and the Environment Agency
    Oversee Water Authority approval processes (S104, S106, etc.)
    Build and maintain strong relationships with clients and key stakeholders

    Required Skills & Experience for the role of Civil Engineer : 
    Longstanding experience in surface and foul water design and/or construction
    Strong understanding of Sewers for Adoption and the Design Manual for Roads and Bridges
    Degree in Civil Engineering (Master’s degree ideally)
    Chartered, or nearing chartership, with ICE or CIWEM
    Proficient in 3D design and modelling software, including MicroDrainage, InfoDrainage, AutoCAD, Civils 3D, Autodesk ICM
    Experience with S104 and S106 approval processes, SuDS Approval Body (SAB) applications, national planning policy and flood risk management requirements
    Demonstrable leadership and team‑coordination skills
    Strong written and verbal communication abilities
    Able to work independently as well as collaboratively
    Proactive, structured approach to problem‑solving

Customer, company and supply chain focussed, you’ll mix being out on site, keeping track of projects, getting up to date on changes, progress and variations as well as working in the office closely with colleagues, company directors and senior staff.

    Main responsibilities for the role of Quantity Surveyor:
    Working with the Estimator, directors, site staff, trades, customer and supply chain – architects or sub-contractors, to manage and deliver various projects from new build construction, engineering projects, refurbs to rebuilds.

    Requirements for the role of Quantity Surveyor:
    Projects vary from the £10k’s of thousands to a few £Million; run under JCT, NEC, council or through simple agreements or non-contracts. You’ll use your Quantity Surveying experience, ideally gained over a number of years and a variety of environments and contract types to take control of the role and help deliver projects with care and trust to a high quality.

    Key Accountabilities for the role of Quantity Surveyor will include:

    Communicate internally and externally with stakeholders to monitor projects, variations, finances and deliverable
    Be able to work in a flexible, varied environment – there is opportunity for you to implement new processes
    Excellent communicator – client, suppliers, site and internal staff
    Work within NEC, JCT, DB and other contract frameworks
    Variations, multi-valuations, cashflows, schedules, Bill of Quantities, Materials
    Open to new ideas, learning, empathetic, trustworthy, patient, diplomatic
    Visit sites to keep up to date on progress, variations, quality
    Work closely with Estimator and other internal staff as well as trades, other site staff and directors
    Projects are for private, public, commercial, education and charity sectors, amongst others

    Degree or qualification would be a bonus
