GCAP is an International and collaborative programme and the Operating Framework make it essential that a Single Source of Truth (SSoT) is developed for the products.What you will do:As part of the Digital Engineering Integration team for GCAP, you will:Work closely with the Digital Engineering Product Owner and wider stakeholders, toagree the User Needs/Use Cases for Digital Engineering Capabilities in line with the Digital Engineering Strategy for the GCAP Programme. Decompose User Needs into Digital Engineering Enabling Capabilities as appropriate.Ensure alignment with the overall GCAP and internal Leonardo Digital Engineering Capability Roadmaps to achieve an integrated, end-to-end Product Development.Work with internal business stakeholders such as the Future Factory and Engineering Functionto create a target state vision for the Digital Engineering Environment and Digital Thread for GCAP - including Digital Thread definition, PLM/ALM Modernisation, Model-Based Engineering, and connected engineering ecosystems.Represent Leonardo as a subject matter expert, providing support to industry engagement across GCAP on the wider Digital Engineering topics, including liaising with partners to discuss and influence future ways of working on GCAP and planning a Digital Engineering transformation solution across Leonardo.Work closely with the Digital Engineering Product Owner, planning proof-of-concept and proof-of-value demonstrations to provide confidence that the new Digital Engineering services meet the time and cost goals for the GCAP Programme.Undertake the required level of planning, requirements and deployment management to ensure Digital Engineering Capability insertions are fully integrated and aligned to the GCAP Programme.Work closely with the Digital Engineering Enabler teams to support project implementation and delivery of Digital Engineering services and capabilities into GCAP using a systematic approach.Work closely with Future Factory and Digital Engineering Enabler teams, to trial and demonstrate benefit of Digital Engineering Capabilitiesbytesting Digital Engineering Capabilities to meet the current and evolving Programme requirements.     Job Description:We are excited to be recruiting for an experience Engineer with microwave engineering knowledge, familiar with working on complex electronic (ideally RF-based) sensor systems.The role can be based in either Southampton or Bristol and will focus on the electronics design of the RF and control subsystems; to be implemented on laboratory and aircraft concept demonstrators.You will provide technical support throughout the product lifecycle including design implementation, integration and test, system trials and product delivery.You will be part of the Leonardo Airborne Communications product development group within the Integrated Sensing & Protection line of business; interacting with partner organisations / sub-contractors and potential customers. Your Impact:You will be responsible for delivery of work packages focused on analogue and RF electronics, covering the inter vehicle data link design, system test and integration. Modelling of proposed architectures to determine the optimal solution. Simulation of RF design. Documentation of design including configuration management within Teamcenter. Support laboratory hardware demonstrator development and test.What we are looking forThese are some of the key things we are looking for, although it’s not necessary to have experience in everything:Practical hands on experience of RF design of circuitry, ideally between DC and 30 GHz, but if you don’t have experience over this whole range then we’d still be interested to hear from you.Experience of working with PCB layout personnel in an advisory capacity.Hands on experience of using RF test and measurement equipment to develop and debug RF circuitry.Ability to use RF and system modelling and simulation tools.Ability to produce concise technical reports detailing design solutions and implementation.Ability to understand and follow the business practices, such as design reviews, which come with working in a high technology defence environment.Degree in relevant engineering or related scientific discipline (Electronics Engineering preferred).As part of an electromechanical project, be willing to work closely with the mechanical team members to create a solution which addresses all design requirements.It would be nice if you had:Knowledge / experience of digital or mixed signal design.Experience in system level and sub-system integration and debug.Experience of working in the defence electronics sector.Chartered Engineer status, or a member of a professional engineering institution.Security ClearanceThis role is subject to pre-employment screening in line with the UK Government’s Baseline Personnel Security Standard (BPSS). A close working relationship should be developed with external partners and suppliers resulting in effective asset management. The ability to prioritise and balance workload within the team is required. An awareness of the activities that drive cost will be an important element of the role. This will involve optimising the periodicity of calibration and maintenance operations, identification and elimination of pattern faults to drive down repair costs and reviewing working procedures for quality and consistency. You will support production meetings, providing updates on PSG activities both WIP and pending that may or will have, reporting on PSG related activities and it affects Test Station down time.Skills, Qualifications & Knowledge RequiredAn HNC / HND qualified in Electronic Engineering with experience in fault finding complex electronic systems and PC controllers. An understanding and experience of Accurate Measurement, Calibration & Metrology, would be advantageous but not essential.A range of skills will be required in this role. Experience of mixed technologies test equipment is required especially the ability to troubleshoot RF test equipment and knowledge of a wide range of computer PC hardware architectures and PC troubleshooting techniques will be required.
