Working closely with the Corporate Transaction Services, IP & Commercial, and Employment & Immigration teams, the role holder will help shape the future direction of the practice, ensuring these areas are well positioned for growth and aligned with market opportunities. You will sit within the Business Development & Marketing team, have line management responsibility for one BD Assistant, and will need to collaborate closely with colleagues across marketing, digital, and CRM to deliver coordinated and impactful initiatives. The successful applicant will drive strategic business development by identifying growth opportunities, developing innovative initiatives and influencing partners to secure buy-in and deliver results. You will take responsibility for agreed firmwide BD projects, which may include key client programmes, improving pitch and tender processes, and driving cross-firm targeting strategies, as well as leading continuous improvement in pitches, proposals, and credentials to maximise win rates. The Business Development Manager will also lead the firmwide Retail & Leisure sector strategy, delivering targeted initiatives such as thought leadership, including an annual Retail report, sector-focused campaigns and events, and cross-practice collaboration to strengthen market presence and win new clients.The ideal candidate will have strong business development experience, ideally gained within a law firm or professional services environment, and will bring gravitas, creativity and commercial acumen to the role. Educated to degree level or equivalent, you will be a collaborative, analytical and self-motivated team player who will enjoy helping the firm grow while contributing to an inclusive and supportive working environment. The Business Development Manager will be confident building trusted relationships with senior stakeholders, spotting opportunities early, and translating strategy into delivery, while also coaching partners, associates, and junior colleagues on effective business development.
