Private Client Tax Manager
Exeter | Circa £52,000 – £66,000 | Permanent
This firm has been building its private client team with care and the Manager role they are now filling reflects that investment. The Exeter office works with high-net-worth individuals, entrepreneurs, and agricultural families, and the work is genuinely varied. You will have direct client responsibility from day one and a team structure that supports rather than restricts you. This is a practice where you are expected to be the client's main point of contact, not a relay between a Partner and a junior.
The Role
Manage a portfolio of personal tax clients, including high-net-worth individuals, business owners, and trusts.
Prepare and review self-assessment returns, trust tax returns, and associated reporting to a high standard.
Advise on income tax, capital gains tax, inheritance tax, and succession planning matters for your portfolio.
Build direct client relationships and act as the first point of contact for technical and commercial queries.
Support junior staff with complex matters and contribute to the technical development of the wider tax team.
About You
Qualified, with a tax-specific qualification preferred. A private client tax background in practice is essential.
Solid grounding in personal tax and trust work, with experience in managing a portfolio under your own initiative.
Comfortable dealing directly with clients and confident in explaining technical positions in accessible terms.
Organised, thorough, and a clear communicator with both clients and colleagues.
An interest in agricultural or landed estate matters would be an advantage in this regional office.
Why This Role
The firm has a quality client base, a strong private client reputation, and a clear development path to Senior Manager and Director level. This is a practice where a Manager can develop real expertise and real client relationships rather than working in the shadow of a Partner. The team is collaborative, the work is technically interesting, and the firm is committed to supporting your professional growth.
