    An opportunity has arisen for a Legal Secretary to join our busy and growing Northern Ireland team, based in our central Belfast offices. You will be working alongside our litigated file handlers ensuring that we deliver market leading results for our clients. Our team handles all areas of insurance litigation from credit hire through to motor, casualty, disease and property, acting on behalf of a broad spread of insurer and corporate clients. You will assist the file handlers in the day to day handling of cases, dealing with audio typing, liaising with third parties and managing key dates, working as a team at all times.Key ResponsibilitiesKey Accountabilities • All forms of typing / audio typing - letters, memos, emails, documents, • Preparation of court documents and briefs• Making telephone calls and receiving telephone messages on behalf of the solicitor• Sending and receiving e-mail messages on behalf of the solicitor,• Making appointments, keeping records and contacts up to date,• Filing, and photocopying duties, keeping records up to date,• Adherence to ISO 9001 standards • Being a support to the firm and the wider team, as and when required.Working Hours 35 hours per weekMonday - Friday 9am - 5pm with 1 unpaid hour for lunch.Primary location for this role is BelfastSkills, Knowledge & Expertise• Audio / copy typing• PC literate, MS Word, MS Excel, Case Management• MS Outlook - working knowledge of how to create and maintain contacts, working knowledge of diary maintenance, including joint diaries with other solicitors.     The Claims Handler will manage a caseload of EL/PL delegated authority fixed fee cases on behalf of a number of insurance clients, working in conjunction with a Technical Support Lawyer who will be involved in setting strategies and making liability decisions, as well as responsible for their technical development. The role requires a forensic and analytical approach to the issues together with experience and/or appreciation of the documents and evidence required in these types of cases. The work type likely to feature in the case load are Pre-action disclosure files, Infant Approval Hearings and EL/PL files handled on a Delegated Authority basis. In addition the Assistant File Handler will support File Handlers on tasks within their caseloads.Key ResponsibilitiesDuties will include the following (based on experience), but may not be limited to:Considering and responding to Applications for Pre-action disclosureHandling matters in accordance with client SLA'sInstructing Counsel/advocateReviewing evidence Legal ResearchNegotiations/ Drafting Payments into CourtDealing with routine correspondenceInitial review and setting strategy for the management of the claimReviewing matters throughoutCRUDealing with disclosureReviewing evidence (including medical / personnel records)Conducting investigations with Insured's / obtaining witness statementsLiaising with parties involved in claims including the insured, Claimant Solicitors and witnessesInstructing Counsel / ExpertsAttending conferences and Trials with Counsel and note takingDealing with routine correspondenceReviewing quantum Drafting Tomlin Orders and Consent OrdersDraft Cost schedulesDealing with general or straightforward queriesTelephone chasing activitiesFiling out Allocation Questionnaires and witness summonEnsuring compliance with the SRA Standards & Regulations.Working Hours 35 hours per week Monday - Friday 9am - 5pm with 1 unpaid hour for lunch.
