The Role
Responsibilities in Teaching and Learning Include: Deliver high-quality, whole-class instruction using the Gradual Release Model and Rosenshine’s Principles of Instruction.
Balance a play-based learning (K–2), and structured inquiry-based, knowledge-rich units (Years 3–6) with explicit instruction.
Embed Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander perspectives across the curriculum.
Differentiate instruction to support all students, including those at educational risk (SAER).
Use programs such as PreLit, Initialit, Brightpath, Sound Waves and Ochre to support literacy and numeracy.
Suitable applicants will ideally have a sound understanding of the Department of Education WA’s Teaching for Impact framework, including the use of effective strategies such as daily reviews to enhance teaching practice and support student learning. Responsibilities in Planning & Assessment Include: Plan collaboratively across year levels using KPS’s scope and sequence and WA curriculum standards.
Use formative and summative assessments, including Common Assessment Tasks, PAT standardised tests and Brightpath moderation.
Develop, review and maintain documented plans for students at educational risk (SAER).
Early Childhood applicants should have a sound understanding of and capacity to incorporate the National Quality Standard (NQS), the Early Years Learning Framework (EYLF), and the Western Australian Curriculum into their planning, teaching, and assessment practices. Suitable applicants will ideally create safe, inclusive and engaging learning spaces where they should implement the Berry Street Education Model (BSEM) to support student wellbeing and regulation. They should foster student agency, curiosity, and a growth mindset as well as build strong relationships with students, families and colleagues. They will provide regular updates to families through term overviews, meetings and interviews as well as contribute to whole-school initiatives and professional learning communities.
