Job overview To achieve a level of competence in all aspects of Endoscopy to work without direct supervision, enabling safe and appropriate staffing and skill mix. This includes developing a thorough understanding of all endoscopic procedures (including purpose, indications, contra-indications, performance, risks and complications), and provision of highly skilled assistance during endoscopic procedures
• To become fully competent in clerking patients on admission to the unit for ALL endoscopic procedures performed, together with obtaining informed written consent, to ensure patients have a full understanding of the procedure(s) and associated risks
• To assist in the development of departmental standards and protocols to ensure safe and effective, continuity of care
• To become skilled in intravenous cannulation and venesection
• To participate in the 24h/7d out of hours on call rota
• To develop knowledge and competence in the care, maintenance and storage of all endoscopic equipment to ensure equipment does not get damaged and remains in good working order
• To develop knowledge of the construction, function and application of all endoscopes and endoscopic accessories to enable the provision of skilled and experienced assistance/troubleshooting during endoscopic procedures
• To obtain detailed knowledge of the decontamination process for endoscopic equipment including the specific infection risks in endoscopy, in order to support the wider endoscopy team

• Supporting the team in ensuring clinical services are delivered to a high quality of care and that all compliance requirements such as CQC and contractual requirements are achieved
• To maintain, develop and record your own continuing professional development, including booking and attending all statutory, mandatory and Trust or speciality specific training
• Ensure pre assessment is performed to discuss the patient’s previous medial history and to review the patient’s current medication and be able to identify any risks prior to having the procedure. Clear documentation of the assessment must be recorded within the nursing documentation. If any risks or concerns are identified during the assessment the nurse will escalate and seek advice from the relevant consultant.
• Ability to discuss all endoscopic procedures through with the patient, so they are fully informed of what the procedure entails. Be familiar with the risks and benefits of endoscopic procedures and discussing these with the patient for the patient to make an informed decision regarding treatment
