About the Role As a Workshop Technician, you’ll work on one of the most diverse and interesting fleets in the region. No two days are the same — and your technical skill will directly support emergency services and essential council operations. Your day, week, and month could include: - Servicing and repairing HGV, LGV and passenger cars, including statutory inspections. - Inspecting, servicing and repairs of specialist fleet equipment. - Diagnostic investigations across light and heavy fleet & equipment. - Mobile maintenance, travelling across the county to keep GCC and GFRS vehicles roadworthy. - Working on fire appliances, pumps, boats, and specialist rescue equipment. - Servicing portable power units, lighting rigs and hydraulic/pneumatic systems. - Training on equipment used across the GCC/GFRS fleet. - Supporting equipment readiness for front‑line fire appliances. - Fabrication, engineering, vehicle conversions, and occasional roadside recovery (full training provided to a national standard). - Collection and delivery of vehicles as required. - Attending and delivering technical training to the wider team. - You will be reporting to the Workshop Supervisor, Workshops Manager & GFRS Control when on-call.
