Based at our Luton manufacturing plant you’ll do just that. Established in 1993, GKN Aerospace in Luton is a world leader in commercial and military ice protection systems and transparencies. Offering a full range of capabilities; design, analysis, testing, certification and manufacture of electro-thermal ice protection, military fast jet canopies and flight deck windows to over 20 programmes including: Boeing 787, Dreamliner, Airbus A320, AgustaWestland, AW101, Eurofighter Typhoon and Lockheed Martin F-22 Raptor. Our customers include Boeing, Airbus, Lockheed Martin, Bell Helicopters, Textron, BAE Systems, Pratt & Whitney, Leonardo. Our Luton site is home to 370+ employees and onsite facilities including onsite parking, food hub and vending machines.

    As a member of the Manufacturing Engineering Team, the Manufacturing Engineer will report to the Manufacturing Engineer Manager working across Civil and Defence business lines and based at our Luton site, occasional travel to visit equipment suppliers could be required. The Manufacturing Engineer will work across several value streams within GKN Luton and will be responsible for managing internal/customer changes, from requested stage through to implementation.
    Job Responsibilities • Develop, document and optimise new and existing manufacturing processes such as creation/amendment SOP (Standard Operating Procedure) and Process Specifications 
    • Create and update engineering documentation to maintain configuration control and help manage point of introduction activities, first article inspection and customer approval
    • Provide day-to-day support to manufacturing operations.
    • Provide MRB (Material Review Board) support to existing programmes to ensure any process deviation or product faults are reviewed and answered
    • Be compliant with the Company’s Environmental, Health & Safety and Energy procedures.
    • Confer with inter-departmental personnel to implement internal and external change request.
    • Manage large and complex projects from programme or customer approval through introduction to production and delivery to customer
    • Breakdown, analyses and impact assess customer design proposals and Condition of Supply changes utilising data provided to evaluate the feasibility, cost, and lead time in implementing the proposal  
    Core operational hours at our Luton site are: 07:30 - 16:30 Monday to Thursday & 07:30 - 12:30 Friday. 
    How You'll Contribute To help us make a difference, you’ll bring your passion and talent for what you do along with the following skills, experience, qualifications and attributes: Essential:
    • HNC/HND qualification (or equivalent experience) in an engineering discipline
    • Demonstrable Manufacturing Engineering experience gained from ideally the Aerospace or Automotive Industry
    • Demonstrable experience of practical problem-solving techniques using A3 or 8D and experience of root cause analysis using Fishbone (Cause and Effect) Diagrams and 5 Whys (Five Whys) techniques
    • Knowledge of Configuration control processes
    • High Level of technical writing and good communication skills

    Desirable: • Experience of Lean Manufacturing including process standardisation kaizen activities such as 5S 
    • Experience in lay-up processes for composite materials
    • Experience in APQP and PPAP standards including Process Flow Diagram, Process Failure Mode Effect Analysis, Process Control Plans, Measurement System Analysis and Process Capability 
    • Project Planning skills
    • Experience of legacy Aerospace products 
    • Experience with Build to print manufacturing

    Job SummaryThe Site Security Manager will be responsible for ensuring the protection of the People, Assets, Information and Reputation of the GKNA site. The Site Security Manager will have the experience, capability and capacity to manage physical and Information Security and provide operational direction and support to the site through the delivery of a security risk management program. This will enable the site to play its part in enabling GKN Aerospace to meet its business priorities, contractual and regulatory obligations and maintain its ‘License to Operate.’ Internal collaboration with the Central Security Team (CST), Defense Business Line Security Lead (BLSL) and functional stakeholders will be key to understanding the risks and delivering solutions which support the site. Where appropriate, liaison with Contracting Authorities and customer peers will ensure that expectations are understood and obligations met. The Site Security Manager will act as the point of contact for all security aspects at the site, providing advice and support, driving governance & compliance, managing physical and technical security improvement programs, monitoring travel security risks, security incident reporting, conducting investigations and delivering training and awareness programs across the site.Job Responsibilities Accountable to the Site Director/VP of Operations for the effective delivery of Security Risk Management across the site by: Managing operational security at the site on daily basis. Conducting an annual (more frequent if required) Threat, Vulnerability and Risk Assessment to identify security risks and ensure that appropriate and proportionate controls which comply with group standards and meet contractual, legal and regulatory requirements are implemented. Development and implementation of site security plans, manuals, processes and procedures. Management of third party manned guarding & technical security systems providers Conducting regular reviews and evaluating the effectiveness of controls and managing a program of continuous improvement. Liaison with the site Leadership Team, Business Line Security Lead, the Central Security Team and other relevant GKNA stakeholders. Liaison with Contracting Authorities (CA) and other government bodies and local law enforcement agencies. Work closely with HR to ensure that Personnel Security Clearance requirements are understood and met.  Information Security – effectively managing the creation; handling; sharing; transfer, communication and disposal of controlled data and information, in accordance with regulatory and GKNA Physical Information Security Standard requirements.  Delivering Security Training and Awareness programs. Providing guidance and advice to international travelers. Security Incident reporting and conducting investigations where appropriate. Ownership of the site Incident Management Plan and processes. Job Qualifications Associates Degree in Operations Management, Business, Security or related fields of study; Will consider High School Diploma or GED and 9+ years of direct professional experience in Security Management or related fields, in lieu of degree. 5 years of experience in Security Management, Law Enforcement, Operations, or related industries.  Proven capability and capacity to absorb/take-on security responsibilities. Understanding and working-knowledge of Threat & Risk Assessment methodology and process. Understanding of physical and technical security controls. Experience in the development of Plans, Processes, Procedures and Projects. Experience managing third-party contractors. Understanding and working-knowledge of Information security risks, controls and interdependencies. Experience managing and briefing international travelers on potential security risks and response procedures. Experience in emergency and incident management with strong ability to work under pressure. U.S. Person per ITAR regulations to comply with export compliance requirements. Preferred Qualifications:  Experience of Security Risk Management in GKN Aerospace or previous role.  Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills - an effective communicator both written and verbal skills.
