    We have been exclusively instructed by our client, a Scottish Public Inquiry, to recruit two experienced Assistant Solicitors to join the Inquiry legal team. This is a unique opportunity to gain Public Inquiry experience on a 23-month fixed-term contract. The role is based in central Edinburgh, with office attendance required at least three days per week.Main responsibilities include identifying and recovering evidence; engaging with external stakeholders; assisting Counsel with review, analysis, and relevance to the Terms of Reference, including contributing to summaries and thematic reports; overseeing applicant statements and expert reports for the Independent Clinical Review; using evidence to identify further inquiries, witnesses, and issues; managing redaction and disclosure in line with Inquiry policies; liaising with Counsel and solicitors and providing legal advice as required; assisting with witness statements for represented and unrepresented witnesses; drafting Rule 8 requests, Section 21 notices, and warning letters; supporting the identification and instruction of expert witnesses; conducting legal research as requested; ensuring compliance with Inquiry procedures and GDPR; and preparing for hearings, including providing practical and legal assistance during sessions, producing summaries, and updating thematic reports.Applicants should have at least five years’ PQE and hold a current Practising Certificate.
