  • Director, Data Product Strategy Lead

    - London
Fitch Solutions is currently seeking a Data Product Strategy Lead base... Read More
Fitch Solutions is currently seeking a Data Product Strategy Lead based out of our London office. Fitch Solutions is a leading provider of insights, data and analytics. It informs investment strategies, strengthens risk management capabilities and helps identify strategic opportunities. Its analysts, lawyers, journalists and economists offer in-depth views on credit markets/risk and individual credits, ESG, developed and emerging markets, and industry sectors. Fitch Solutions is part of Fitch Group, a global leader in financial information services with operations in over 30 countries. Fitch Group is owned by Hearst. By becoming a part of the Fitch Solutions team, you will join a group of colleagues delivering critical data, insightful research, and comprehensive analytics that empower clients to make informed decisions. You'll work in a dynamic environment where innovation is encouraged, and collaboration is key to developing solutions that address the evolving needs of global markets. With a portfolio of best-in-class, award winning brands, we offer you the opportunity to advance your career while contributing to a company known for its expertise and commitment to excellence. We are looking for a Data Product Strategy Lead to spearhead the incubation of new data domains as part of our data product strategy. This role sits at the intersection of data architecture and product management – focusing on the medium-term enablement of commercial data products in emerging domains. The Data Product Strategy Lead will use architectural methods (such as landscape mapping of systems and data sources) to develop domain-specific data strategies and initial models. They will also work closely with product teams to align these strategies with business goals and establish the right “ways of working” for domain data teams. Over time, this lead will hand off the domain to a dedicated team and move on to catalyze the development of the next domain, thereby scaling our data product portfolio across the organization. How You’ll Make an Impact: Domain Landscape Analysis: Conduct comprehensive discovery for new or “incubating” domains – mapping out existing data sources, systems, and processes that relate to the domain. Analyze the current state (“landscape mapping”) to identify gaps, overlaps, and opportunities in data coverage and quality. Use this analysis to inform the domain’s data strategy and architecture blueprint, ensuring no conflict or redundancy with enterprise architecture standards. Domain Data Strategy & Roadmap: Develop and document a clear data strategy for the domain that aligns with overall business objectives and product strategy. This includes defining the key data assets or “data families” within the domain and how they can be transformed into valuable data products. Lead the conceptualization and launch planning of data products for the domain, ensuring the domain’s data strategy is tightly aligned with business priorities and use cases. Outline a domain data product roadmapthat sequences the development of data products and capabilities, and incorporate data governance best practices ( data quality checks, ownership models) from the start. Initial Solution Design & Prototyping: Create high-level solution designs for the domain’s data architecture, including conceptual data models and integration flows that show how data will move from sources to curated layers to final products. Where needed, develop proof-of-concept data models or prototypes to validate assumptions and illustrate the proposed approach. Break down complex problem statements into smaller, actionable components, enabling the team to execute stepwise and show incremental progress. Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work closely with product managers, business stakeholders, and enterprise architects to ensure the domain strategy complements other initiatives and does not duplicate efforts. Serve as a liaison between technical and business teams for the domain – translating business requirements into technical plans, and explaining technical constraints or opportunities back to the business. This includes engaging with the enterprise architecture and CDO (Chief Data Office) teams to make sure the domain’s approach aligns with broader data governance and architecture frameworks (without encroaching on roles those teams recognize). Establish Ways of Working: Set up the initial ways of working for the domain data team, modeling best practices in agile delivery and domain-centric development. This might involve defining how the domain team will handle backlog management, sprint planning, and stakeholder reviews for data product development. (While not a formal Scrum Master or Product Owner role, the Strategy Lead will guide the team on effective product development processes, ensuring the journey from discovery to build is smooth and paced appropriately.) For example, help the team maintain a clear product backlog and roadmap, and introduce standards for documentation and quality control. Where necessary, challenge the current culture and transform ways-of-working. Transition & Scale: After incubating the domain to a point of stable delivery ( initial data products are launched or clear plans are in place), facilitate a transition of ownership to a long-term domain team (which might include a Domain Data Architect and Product Owner dedicated to that domain). Document all strategies, designs, and lessons learned, so that the permanent team can continue the work seamlessly. Then, move on to enable and scalethe data product strategy in the next emerging domain, applying and evolving a repeatable approach for domain incubation. By doing so, help scale up the organization’s data product portfolio by rapidly standing up new domain capabilities and teams. You May be a Good Fit if: Experience & Background: 8+ years of experience in data-related roles such as data architecture, data product management, or data strategy consulting. A blend of technical data experience and business/product strategy experience is essential. Candidates who have served as Data Product Managers or Technical Product Owners in analytics-driven projects (especially in a startup or innovation capacity) will excel in this role. A track record of driving data initiatives from concept to execution – , developing a data strategy or roadmap and then guiding its implementation – is highly valued. Domain Knowledge: While financial services domain experience is beneficial, it is not strictly required for all domains. The ability to quickly learn and understand new business domains is crucial. For instance, one domain might be Credit Ratings (requiring familiarity with ratings data), while another could be a non-financial domain where general data strategy skills suffice. Versatility and quick domain ramp-up are key. Data Architecture & Modeling: Solid understanding of data modeling and architecture principles. Ability to design conceptual models and explain how they would be implemented (without necessarily doing low-level schema design yourself for the long term). Familiarity with enterprise architecture methods and tools is a plus, as is understanding of data integration techniques. Experience with decentralized data architecture or Data Mesh principles is highly desirable, since our organization leverages a federated approach where domains own their data products. Product Strategy & Agile Methodology: Strong skills in product thinking – identifying what data products will deliver the most value and shaping them to meet user needs. Experience in an Agile environment, working with backlogs and iterative delivery, is important. You should be comfortable developing strategy documents and business cases that articulate the “why” and “what” of a data product, not just the “how.” Ability to run workshops or “event storming” sessions with stakeholders to gather requirements and ideate solutions is a plus. What Would Make You Stand Out: Communication & Documentation: Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Proven ability to write clear strategy papers, whitepapers, or internal proposals outlining a vision and plan (for example, authoring documents on domain data families, data asset catalogs, etc., as reference material for both business and technical audiences). Capable of persuading and influencing mid- to senior-level stakeholders, obtaining buy-in for new initiatives by articulating the business benefits of the data strategy. Adaptability and Initiative: Self-driven and comfortable with ambiguity. Incubating a domain means charting a course where often no prior roadmap exists – the ideal candidate enjoys creating structure and strategy from a blank slate. They must be able to juggle strategic thinking with hands-on problem-solving, and know when to dive into details versus when to stay at a high level. Success in this role will be measured by the ability to accelerate a domain from concept to an operational data product team within a medium-term timeframe. Why Choose Fitch: Hybrid Work Environment: 3 days a week in office required based on your line of business and location A Culture of Learning & Mobility: Dedicated trainings, leadership development and mentorship programs designed to ensure that your time at Fitch will be a continuous learning opportunity Investing in Your Future: Retirement planning and tuition reimbursement programs that empower you to achieve your short and long-term goals Promoting Health & Wellbeing: Comprehensive healthcare offerings that enable physical, mental, financial, social, and occupational wellbeing Supportive Parenting Policies: Family-friendly policies, including a generous global parental leave plan, designed to help you balance career and family life effectively Inclusive Work Environment: A collaborative workplace where all voices are valued, with Employee Resource Groups that unite and empower our colleagues around the globe Dedication to Giving Back: Paid volunteer days, matched funding for donations and ample opportunities to volunteer in your community Fitch is committed to providing global securities markets with objective, timely, independent and forward-looking credit opinions.
