    HGV & LGV Driver
    Salary: Competitive

    Location: Various locations across the UK

    As a Driver at FCC Environment, you will play a key role in supporting our waste and recycling services. You’ll be responsible for safely driving vehicles appropriate to your licence class and may also assist with loading duties when required.
    This is a hands-on role where no two days are the same – you’ll be collecting recycling and waste materials, maintaining high safety standards, and ensuring excellent service for our communities.
    This vacancy is for a full-time position, working 5 days per week, with occasional overtime to meet service demands.

    What will you be doing?
    • Safely drive and operate refuse/recycling vehicles up to 18 tonnes gross vehicle weight
    • Collect waste and recycling materials including food, glass, plastics, paper, and card
    • Carry out daily vehicle checks and report any defects or safety concerns immediately
    • Ensure Health & Safety procedures are followed at all times, including at tipping points
    • Accurately complete all necessary paperwork and report any incidents during rounds
    • Work as part of a team, providing assistance with loading when required
    • Support depot operations, including cleaning vehicles and maintaining equipment

    What are we looking for?
    • A valid driving licence appropriate to the vehicle you’ll be operating (e.g., Class 1, Class 2, or 7.5T)
    • Valid Driver CPC and digital tachograph card (where applicable)
    • Knowledge of road safety practices and transport legislation
    • Reliable, safety-conscious, and physically fit
    • Flexible and willing to assist with loading as well as driving
    • Previous experience in waste collection or a similar driving role is desirable but not essential – full training will be provided
    • Local area knowledge is beneficial but not essential

    This is a full-time position, working 5 days per week.

    What will you be doing?

    - Carrying out daily start-up inspections and light maintenance on mobile plant machinery, including greasing and clearing debris
    - Operating a wheeled loading shovel and other mobile plant equipment safely and efficiently
    - Loading third-party vehicles with waste material, ensuring payloads are maximised and vehicles are not damaged
    - Maintaining a clean and safe working environment, including general housekeeping duties across the site
    - Adhering to traffic management rules and enforcing them for other site users
    - Monitoring and reporting fuel usage and stock levels to line management
    - Supporting with other duties such as cleaning, grounds maintenance, statutory checks, and inspections
    - Covering for colleagues during breaks, holidays, and sickness
    - Following all health, safety, and environmental policies and reporting any hazards or incidents

    What are we looking for?

    - Experience operating wheeled loading shovels and holding a current, valid licence
    - Ability to load bulk articulated vehicles with varying materials
    - Confidence working and manoeuvring machinery in confined spaces
    - Literacy and basic computer skills, as you will complete checklists, reports, and records
    - A proactive and team-oriented attitude, with the willingness to get stuck in and help where needed
    - Good timekeeping and reliability
    - Flexibility to take on a variety of duties as required
    - Previous experience in the waste management industry would be beneficial, but is not essential
