In this role, you will provide strategic and operational leadership across multiple sites, driving consistency, innovation and excellence in teaching and learning. You will oversee governance and compliance, ensuring all schools meet statutory and regulatory standards, including Ofsted, Independent School Standards, JCQ, and safeguarding requirements. Acting as the Strategic Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL Level 4), you will embed a robust safeguarding culture and champion best practice across all educational settings.
You will lead and develop senior education staff, including Headteachers and School Business Coordinators, ensuring effective performance management, succession planning, and professional growth. Through data analysis, self-evaluation, and implementation of the Education Quality Improvement Framework, you will drive continuous improvement and deliver outstanding outcomes for students. Building strong partnerships with clinical teams, Local Authorities, Ofsted, and families will be central to your success, alongside managing budgets and resources to ensure sustainable, high-quality provision.

As the Head of Education, you will:
Provide strategic and operational leadership across all hospital schools to ensure consistency, quality, and innovation in teaching, learning, and curriculum delivery.
Lead educational excellence and inclusion, ensuring all schools provide high-quality, compliant, and therapeutic education aligned with the Independent School Standards (ISS) and Ofsted framework.
Promote recovery, wellbeing, and academic achievement for young people in an eating disorder and neurodiverse setting through an integrated, trauma-informed, and person-centred approach.
Oversee governance/management committee and compliance, ensuring all educational sites meet statutory and regulatory standards, including safeguarding, JCQ, and health and safety requirements.
Act as the Strategic Safeguarding Lead (DSL Level 4) for Education, embedding a robust safeguarding culture and ensuring alignment with KCSIE and organisational policy.
Lead, manage, and develop educational staff, including Headteachers and School Business Coordinators, ensuring effective supervision, performance management, and succession planning.
Ensure continuous quality improvement through data analysis, self-evaluation, and implementation of the Education Quality Improvement Framework.
Represent education across Elysium Healthcare, building effective partnerships with hospital clinical teams, the Department for Education, Ofsted, Local Authorities, and families.
Lead on communication and reporting, ensuring accurate and timely production of educational reports that reflect progress, attainment, and engagement across all schools.
Drive innovation and collaboration, sharing best practice across sites to strengthen consistency, professional development, and outcomes for students.
To be successful in this role, you will have:
Substantial experience as a Headteacher or Senior Leader in specialist, therapeutic, or hospital education
Qualified Teacher Status (QTS/QTLS)
National Professional Qualification for Headship (NPQH) or Executive Leadership (NPQEL)
Master’s degree in education, Leadership, or SEN
Evidence of continuing professional development (CPD) in leadership or management, with a commitment to your own CPD
Project Management qualification (e.g. PRINCE2)
Designated Safeguarding Lead training to Level 4
Proven track record of improving outcomes for students with SEMH and medical needs
Experience of leading multiple school sites or teams across dispersed locations
Experience of preparing for and achieving successful Ofsted outcomes
Experience of leading safeguarding and compliance at a strategic level
Experience of opening or registering new provisions
Demonstrable experience of developing staff and managing performance effectively
Experience of liaising with the DfE, Ofsted, and Local Authorities
Experience of chairing governance or management committees
