Senior Commercial Operations Manager - Gloucester, UK

    About the Role

    Senior Commercial Operations Manager

Are you ready to play a pivotal role in one of the UK’s most ambitious infrastructure projects? Join us at EDF and help shape the future of low-carbon energy as we deliver Hinkley Point C – a £26bn nuclear new build that will power six million homes and support Britain’s journey to Net Zero by 2050. This is your chance to make a lasting impact on the UK’s energy landscape.

    The Opportunity

At Hinkley Point C (HPC) we are building two new nuclear reactors, the first in a new generation of nuclear power stations in the UK providing low carbon electricity for around six million homes.

As a Senior Commercial Operations Manager, you’ll be at the heart of a project that’s transforming the UK’s energy future. You’ll lead the strategic management of key engineering and nuclear services contracts, working closely with stakeholders from across the globe. Your influence will help navigate complex delivery challenges and ensure governance across vital technical and engineering programmes. This is a unique opportunity to shape outcomes on a project of national significance.

    Pay, Benefits & Culture

In addition to a competitive salary starting from £88,000, we offer a competitive benefits package, including a company pension scheme, and a wide range of flexible benefits to suit your lifestyle.

We’re talking about everything from enhanced parental leave to electric vehicle leasing, health insurance to product discounts, critical illness insurance to technology vouchers, gym membership to season ticket loans.

At EDF UK, we embrace flexibility while recognising that everyone\\\'s working needs are different. Whether you\\\'re in our office spaces, on site, or working remotely, we promote an environment that supports collaboration, connection, and comfort. No matter where you are, our priority is to make sure you feel safe, valued, and celebrated.

Here, we do right by each other and everyone’s welcome. We’re on an action-oriented journey, championing equity, diversity, and inclusion. We’d like our future workforce to have an equal gender balance, represent a broad mix of people from minority ethnic backgrounds, LGBTQ+, those with a disability and supporting social mobility.

We’re a disability confident employer and we’ll do all we can to help with your application. Please let us know if you need to request reasonable adjustments.

We take pride in fostering a dynamic and inclusive environment, where the diverse backgrounds and experiences of our employees drive fresh thinking and innovation. We understand that success means different things to different people. We believe there are multiple definitions of what it means to succeed. That’s why we support you to pursue a career that’s unique to you. Because success is personal.

    What You’ll Be Doing

You’ll lead a high-performing Commercial Management team, setting strategic direction and aligning commercial goals with EDF’s broader mission. Your work will directly support the successful delivery of the Responsible Designer and Nuclear Services contracts, ensuring value is maximised and long-term outcomes are achieved.

Operationally, you’ll oversee the delivery of commercial services to the Technical Directorate, manage key contract interfaces worth hundreds of millions annually, and drive continuous improvement across governance, risk, and financial processes. Your ability to solve problems and make “best for project” decisions will be key.

As a leader, you’ll inspire excellence across multidisciplinary teams, ensuring consistent performance and compliance with safety, schedule, and quality standards. You’ll be a visible role model, championing professionalism and nuclear safety at every turn.

    Who You Are

You bring a strong financial background—whether through qualification or experience—and a sharp commercial mindset. You’ve worked in project management or engineering environments and are confident navigating complex stakeholder landscapes. Your leadership style is inclusive and empowering, and you’ve successfully led teams of commercial or business professionals.

You’re highly organised, an excellent communicator, and proactive in resolving challenges. You thrive in dynamic environments, embrace change, and bring a questioning attitude that drives improvement. Technically, you’re adept at breaking down complex problems, interpreting contracts, and turning data into actionable insights. Proficiency in MS Office and a commitment to maintaining accurate, auditable records are second nature to you.

Additionally, you must meet the criteria for Security Vetting, which generally requires you to have been a UK resident for at least 3 of the last 5 years.

You’ll be embedded within the Turbine Halls Multi-Disciplinary Delivery Team, collaborating closely with Tier 1 supply chain partners. Your role will be to anticipate challenges, resolve issues, and shape delivery strategies that ensure a robust and integrated schedule for on-site construction and installation.

Working independently in installation areas, you’ll support the Electrical and I&C Lead to drive programme delivery while managing its broader impact. You’ll track progress, manage risks, and ensure that all activities are delivered safely, on time, and within budget.

From overseeing contract administration to ensuring nuclear safety and resolving construction issues, your leadership will be key to maintaining quality and schedule. You’ll also liaise with the HPC Site team to ensure seamless delivery and alignment with project milestones.

    Who you are

You’ll bring a degree in electrical engineering, construction, or a related technical discipline—or equivalent experience. Your communication and organisational skills are second to none, and you’re adept at building strong relationships and networks.

With a background in managing contractors and consultants on large, complex construction projects, ideally in regulated environments, you’re experienced in stakeholder engagement and collaboration. You’re confident in project, financial, and change management, and proficient with scheduling and risk tools.

While experience in large-scale technical projects is a plus, we’re most interested in your personal attributes. You’ve demonstrated success in managing safe systems of work, quality assurance, engineering design, and multi-discipline project delivery. You’re also skilled in cost control, risk management, and change implementation.

If this sounds like your next career move, we’d love to hear from you.

You’ll also act as a key interface with regulators and industry bodies, while providing specialist advice as needed.

Leading radiological protection activities across construction, commissioning, and operations phases, you’ll ensure all work involving ionising radiation is performed safely, efficiently, and compliantly. This includes supervising fieldwork, promoting a strong radiological safety culture, and preparing your team to provide hands-on technical support. In addition, you’ll oversee the specification, procurement, and commissioning of essential radiological protection equipment and facilities to meet UK legislative requirements and best practices.

You’ll have hands-on experience applying the Ionising Radiations Regulations and other relevant legislation, as well as managing radiological protection equipment and service providers in fast-paced environments. Previous leadership of multidisciplinary teams in regulated settings is essential, along with a proven ability to motivate and guide teams to deliver high-quality work on time and within budget.

You’ll be confident in providing practical radiological protection advice and capable of developing clear, compliant procedures and documentation. Strong stakeholder engagement is a key part of the role, so experience working with diverse teams and resolving issues in multicultural environments is important. You’ll also need to demonstrate the ability to influence and negotiate effectively across technical and non-technical areas.

We’re looking for someone who has worked closely with regulators and has a good understanding of radiological safety within nuclear-licensed sites. Chartered status and prior appointments such as Radiation Protection Adviser or Dangerous Goods Safety Adviser would be advantageous. Experience in mentoring, coaching, and developing junior team members, along with a solid grasp of nuclear industry quality assurance standards, would help you thrive in this role.

If this sounds like you then we’d love to hear from you!

To be appointed to this role, you will need to meet the criteria for Counter Terrorist Check (CTC) which will, ordinarily, require you to have British residency for the last 3 years.
