    Job overview We are recruiting two maternity leave cover Nurse Team Leaders into our Pre-operative Assessment service, who shares our vision to be trusted to provide consistently outstanding care and exemplary service to our patients. The role of a Preoperative Assessment practitioner is that of an advocate who identifies the patients’ needs and risk factors that may affect their surgical experience. We are dedicated to the reduction of cancelled operations on the day of surgery through ensuring that patients are comprehensively optimised prior to their surgical procedure. We focus on improving the patient’s experience before, during and after their admission by meeting their individual needs. The assessment, identification and subsequent management of risks related to surgery can also be directly related to the reduction of complication rates and mortality. Our service operates Monday to Friday from 08:00 to 18:00, and on Saturdays at Lister Hospital from 08:00 to 13:00. Main duties of the job This exciting opportunity will see you making a real difference in our patients' lives and the standard of quality healthcare delivered. The successful candidate must be a conscientious individual, preferably with good POA experience but not essential as full training will be given. You will join and be part of a progressive, innovative team that keeps the patient at the heart of everything we do. After your POA training and induction, you will conduct Nurse-led clinics and autonomously manage your patient caseload. Therefore, you should have a flexible approach to working and a willingness to learn and develop continuously. In addition, strong customer care skills and effective communication with all stakeholders are fundamental. You will act as a role model and demonstrate a desire and willingness to contribute and actively be involved in further developing the POA service as well as the team, student nurses and ODPs who join us on clinical placements. Main duties of the job Our diagnostic radiology service is provided by the Lister hospital, the new Queen Elizabeth II hospital and the Hertford County hospital and includes plain film, interventional, fluoroscopy, Ultrasound, CT, MRI, NM SPECT, DXA and breast imaging. We have two 3T Siemens Skyra scanners and a 1.5T MRI Avanto (re-fitted in November 2018) and 5 CT scanners, three Siemens (two Force and an AS+) and two Toshiba Primes. Our expanding interventional service includes an interventional room with a GE Innova machine within Radiology and a dedicated recovery area. There is also a further fluoroscopy room. The Trust is providing a 24/7 vascular hub for the region and a state-of-the-art hybrid theatre with a Philips Azurion 7 C20 with FelxArm system installed Spring 2025 We also use a GE Elite for vascular cases in theatre which include EVARs, angiograms and angioplasties. We perform a wide range of vascular, urology/renal and GI cases. You will perform a range of diagnostic imaging procedures to agreed professional standards incorporating the College of Radiographers and departmental guidelines within Radiology and in theatre. You will also supervise, assist and train Student Radiographers and Assistant Practitioners. This is based at the Lister Hospital, Stevenage, but you may be required to travel to our other sites. In addition you will participate in on-call duties to provide emergency vascular imaging to our patients. The department has experience supporting staff on the route 2 training path under annex 21 where you will be paid 70% of top of band 7 in year one and 75% top of band 7 in year two. For further information on Annex 21, please see: The department provides RPA, MPE and Radiology Physics services to a number of NHS Trusts across Bedfordshire, Hertfordshire, West Essex and North West London. This involves supporting departments using ionizing radiation to achieve compliance with Radiation Safety legislation (IRR17 and IR(ME)R17) and operate with good radiation safety practice. Further activities include: radiology environmental and equipment checks (including quality assurance assessments and optimisation); X-ray room design; patient radiation dose assessments; audits under relevant legislation; provision and updating of Local Rules and running training courses. Main duties of the job The successful candidate will provide a safe, accurate and legally compliant physics service to Diagnostic Radiology Departments. If they are not currently based in the UK, they must be eligible for registration with the HCPC Desirable criteria • Registered Clinical Scientist Previous Experience Essential criteria Experience of the physics of diagnostic x-ray imaging. Practical experience with a range of diagnostic x-ray equipment and the clinical applications. Experience of radiation protection in diagnostic radiology Desirable criteria Some practical experience on more complex equipment such as CT scanners, mammography and digital radiography. Experience of sealed and unsealed sources Experience of laser protection work. Skills Essential criteria Ability to communicate complex information to a range of individuals in both written and verbal formats Ability to use their judgement to analyse, critically appraise and interpret complex data or situations Ability to liaise with other staff within radiology departments (radiographers, radiologists and engineers) Ability to organise own work schedule Self-motivated and able to work independently, whilst being aware of limits of experience/knowledge IT literacy including Microsoft Excel and Word, and the ability to use a range of specialist IT systems.
