    Job overview An exciting opportunity has arisen within the children’s diabetes team for a full time band 5/6 paediatric diabetes dietitian. We are seeking a highly motivated dietitian who would like to develop their career further within the area of childhood and adolescent diabetes. We are a supportive multi-disciplinary diabetes team that are based on site at Dorset County Hospital. We are a team of 2 administrative staff, 1 Health Care Assistant, 4 diabetes specialist nurses, 1 full time band 7 lead diabetes specialist dietitian, 1 clinical psychologist and 1 assistant psychologist who support our children and families with diabetes alongside our Paediatric Diabetes Consultants. The majority of children we support have type 1 diabetes with a high proportion of these using HCL systems. This role will enable you to help empower and provide evidence based diabetes education to children and families via MDT clinics, pre-pump dietitian reviews, HCL start sessions and annual dietetic reviews as well as provide support to our children and families at diagnosis and during their admissions to hospital. For the right candidate we would consider a B5/6 development role looking for development towards Band 6 within 12-18 months of starting the role subject to successful completion of an approved paediatric diabetes MSc level module. Main duties of the job Working as part of the Dorset County Hospital Paediatric Dietetic and Diabetes teams to provide an efficient and effective, evidence-based dietetic service for a complex caseload of children and young people with diabetes (CYPD). · To be a source of clinical expertise to the paediatric diabetes multi-disciplinary team. · To provide dietetic care for (CYPD), primarily those with type 1, in a variety of settings in the West Dorset locality. · To provide specialised assessment, treatment and support of patients with co-existing medical conditions requiring additional dietary manipulation. · To work as part of the paediatric diabetes multi-disciplinary team training other healthcare professionals, school and nursery staff and other care providers. · To provide support for junior members of the team and student dietitians. Your line manager will provide regular reviews/support, to help you develop your skills. This is an exciting time to join the department following expansion in recent years to be lead provider the Dorset Lung Cancer Screening Programme and Dorset Sleep Service. The department has a lively and friendly team environment to support new ideas, with effective and innovative services for COPD and asthma, lung cancer, ILD, and sleep and is leading the development of new workforce solutions and service delivery models. A full range of basic and advanced diagnostic tests are available providing a comprehensive pulmonary function laboratory. Aside from spirometry, flow-volume loops, helium dilution lung volumes and carbon monoxide transfer factors, the department can perform whole body plethysmography, methacholine challenge, cardiopulmonary exercise testing, arterial blood gas analysis, LTOT and ambulatory oxygen assessments, hypoxic challenge tests, shunt tests, FeNO, overnight oximetry and multichannel domiciliary sleep study. Interview date: 16th March TBC Main duties of the job Most respiratory inpatients are managed on the 26-bedded Moreton ward. The post will include 2 weeks on and off the ward per 4-week cycle. Key activities include the following: • Undertake outpatient clinics in Dorchester and community hospitals. • Undertake ward rounds on the respiratory inpatients and supervise the resident staff on the wards • Perform work in General Internal Medicine on the wards, with weekday evening post take ward rounds and weekend cover approximately 1:9 • Attend multidisciplinary team meetings in lung cancer, ILD, sleep • Perform regular Bronchoscopy, EBUS lists and pleural procedures • Work with DAIRS (Dorset Adult Integrated Respiratory Service) • Contribute to education and training of other staff • Contribute to the respiratory team and to the Trust in terms of supporting professional activities, in developing the service, supporting clinical governance activities and contributing to activities that progress the strategic aims of the Trust • Contribute to the physiology-led Sleep Apnoea service with MDT for cases with additional medical issues and reporting .
