At DHU Healthcare, we are proud to provide urgent and emergency care that truly makes a difference and are looking for skilled professionals like you to help us raise the bar even higher. * Location: Oadby Urgent Treatment Centre (OUTC), 18 The Parade, Oadby, Leicestershire, LE2 5BJ. * Contract Type: BANK * Salary: Band 8b (£62,484 - £72,865) with 30% evening enhancements and 45% weekend enhancements * Region / Division: Urgent Treatment Centre Main duties of the job What You’ll Be Doing: In this autonomous, clinically advanced role, you’ll be at the frontline of patient triage making fast, informed decisions that directly influence outcomes. Every shift, you’ll: * Assess, diagnose, treat, or refer patients with a wide range of conditions. * Lead on safe, effective, evidence-based care in a triage setting. * Conduct and interpret diagnostic investigations. * Liaise with specialist services and ensure appropriate handovers/referrals. * Maintain meticulous records in line with governance and best practice. * Stay at the forefront of evidence-based practice and CPD. What We’re Looking For: * Professional Registration (NMC, HCPC, or GPhC). * Independent Prescriber (non-medical prescribing certification). * Postgraduate Education: Minimum of two Level 7 modules, including Clinical Assessment Skills. * Demonstrated experience in autonomous clinical decision making. * Ability to work effectively as part of a diverse, high performing team. * Confidence, compassion, and clarity under pressure. Job responsibilities Clinical: * Practice autonomously without direct supervision. * Utilise advanced clinical skills to assess, diagnose, treat and refer patients requiring the clinical service. * Recognise the need for, initiate and where appropriate interpret relevant diagnostic investigations. * Recognise the need for and initiate where appropriate advice of relevant specialisms. * Exhibit excellent nonverbal and verbal communication skills when dealing with patients and carers; make clear decisions with confidence and communicate effectively. * Maintain appropriate clinical records in line with current practice guidelines. * Work within the parameters of your skills and knowledge, recognising the limitations to your own practice and to work within the bounds of your training and capability according to regulatory codes of conduct. * Maintain an awareness of developments in clinical practice. * Work effectively as part of a multi-professional team in collaboration with other members of the service. * Adhere to performance measures. * Provide health promotion/accident prevention advice for patients and carers. * Promote the protection of children and vulnerable adults in accordance with local safeguarding procedures. * Adhere to the Infection Prevention and Control policy for the service being provided. * Prescribe medication and work within the limitations of current extended Non-Medical Prescribing legislation. * Discharge or refer patients as appropriate to internal or external clinical pathways. * Order, store, administer and dispose of medicines in a safe, secure manner in accordance with current policy and legislation. Managerial: * Take part in clinical audits. * Attend professional meetings and participate in team meetings. * Work within guidelines and policies and support the implementation of policies in own work area and participate in working groups as required. * Lead and participate in clinical audit cycle as required. * Participate in inductions for newly appointed staff. * Responsible for day-to-day supervision, delegation and co-ordination of staff, making the best use of their abilities as appropriate. * Participate in the appraisal process for themselves and others as appropriate. * Identify, report and address poor performance issues. * Diffuse challenging behaviour, ensuring that the situation is managed in a sensitive way. * Ensure efficient and effective use of material resources/supplies. * Identify any problems with resource use/availability and make recommendations for corrective action. Clinical Governance: * Participate in the clinical governance requirements within the work of the organisation. * Practice with the parameters of company policies, protocols and guidelines. * Participate in quality improvement within the organisation. * Assess and evaluate outcomes of own practice, service intervention and treatment and identify any shortfalls in service reporting to relevant managers. * Provide mentorship, leadership and training to other team members. * Ensure the requirements of Health and Safety policy and legislation are maintained. * Participate in research and development activities of DHU Health Care. Education Practice Development: * Participate in the clinical supervision framework for health care professionals within the company. * Offer appropriate advice to health and social care professions on care practices, delivery and service development within the parameters of the role and scope of practice. * Participate in the ongoing individual professional development within the organisation. * Mentor and role model as appropriate in the development of triage consultation, the mentorship of junior staff and students. * Complete the mandatory training programme to ensure compliance at all times. Professional: * Work within the regulatory requirements, codes and Professional Standards of practice of the NMC/HCPC/GPhC. * Maintain professional and clinical competence through mechanisms of continuing professional development. * Act in such a manner at all times to promote confidence and public trust and uphold the reputation and image of DHU Health Care CIC. Communications and Working Relationships: * Director of Nursing and Quality and other Executive Directors. * Divisional Clinical Director and Managing Director. * Divisional Heads of Clinical Services. * Divisional Operations and Corporate Teams. * DHU Health Care CIC Governance Team. * DHU Health Care CIC Clinical Training Team. * Clinical and managerial staff within participating Clinical Commissioning Groups (CCG). * Clinical staff in local primary and secondary care services. * Other related services within the local health economy. * Social Services and local intermediate Care Services. Person Specification Experience * Substantial autonomous practice working within a multi-professional team. * Evidence of using autonomous physical examination and assessment skills in practice. * Broad and sound knowledge of complex and common conditions in primary care in both adults and children. * Experience in one of the following: nurse-led clinics, emergency care centres, out of hours facilities or walk-in centres. * Consolidated independent prescribing experience. Knowledge and Skills * Complete a concise clinical history and physical examination. * Consolidated telephone triage experience. * Formulate a differential diagnosis and management plan. * Participate in service development. * Demonstrable awareness of accountability in clinical practice. * Use effective communication skills within practice. * Excellent verbal and written skills. * Negotiation skills. * Critical thinking skills. * Identify individual client needs. * Prioritise with effective time management. * Commitment to lifelong learning. * Counselling and communication skills. * Facilitation and negotiation skills. * Awareness of current structures and developments in out-of-hours care, health and social care. * Specialist clinical/technical skills. * Proven team player. * Able to work autonomously. * Committed to continuing professional development. * Positive attitude. * High level of interpersonal skills. * Willingness to continue with additional training to achieve a full MSc in Advanced Clinical Practice. Qualifications * Registered Adult Nurse registered with the Nursing & Midwifery Council (NMC), Paramedic registered with the Health Care Professions Council (HCPC) or Pharmacist registered with the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC) - Registered as an independent non-medical prescriber. * A minimum of 2 modules at Level 7. One module must include assessment of clinical examination skills. An exciting opportunity has arisen for experienced practitioners to join our Urgent Treatment Centre (UTC), working in a varied and fast-paced environment where no two days are the same. Unscheduled care offers a dynamic setting, providing exposure to a wide range of patient presentations. At DHU Healthcare, we are looking for practitioners who are specifically motivated by the UTC model. Working within the UTC, you will practise as an autonomous clinician responsible for the assessment, diagnosis, treatment, and management of patients presenting with a broad spectrum of minor injuries and illnesses. This role offers an excellent opportunity to further develop your skills in managing acute presentations within an urgent care setting. You will work as part of a multidisciplinary team alongside experienced Advanced Practitioners, GPs, and nursing colleagues, delivering high-quality, patient-centred care. As an Advanced Practitioner, you will demonstrate clinical excellence, contribute to the effective running of the service, and support colleagues within the department. With access to a range of diagnostic tools to support clinical decision-making, the UTC provides an ideal environment to build on experience gained in Emergency Departments, Walk-in Centres, General Practice, or Out of Hours services, while continuing to develop your clinical expertise. As a UTC Advanced Practitioner you will: • Be a registered Adult Nurse (NMC), Paramedic (HCPC) or Pharmacist (GPhC) with independent prescribing rights as a Non-Medical Prescriber and have consolidated experience in independent prescribing • Hold a minimum of 2 Level 7 modules, including at least one covering advanced clinical assessment and examination skills (e.g. Advanced Patient Assessment and Management or Minor Illness/Minor Injuries) • Work autonomously within a supportive, multi-professional team environment • Demonstrate evidence of autonomous physical assessment and examination skills in practice • Be confident in the management of minor illness and have experience or willingness to develop skills in X-ray interpretation • Demonstrate a broad clinical knowledge of both common and complex urgent care presentations in adults and children • Have experience working within an urgent or emergency care setting For you, benefits that work.
